Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Is This Resident Evil?

Next, Professor Charles Joe went on to describe the infected dogs, the Lickers, and other mutated creatures. His words sent a shiver through the entire classroom.

Only the Second Forbidden Zone was this perilous what would the later zones be like?

Every student except Vincent Fox sat wide-eyed and jittery. Vincent, however, felt only calm certainty.

From Professor Joe's briefing, he knew for sure: the Second Forbidden Zone was the world of Resident Evil the film version, no less.

At that moment, a courageous girl raised her hand. "Professor, are there really so many deadly creatures in Zone Two?"

Professor Joe offered a wry smile. "These files were compiled at great cost countless soldiers sacrificed themselves to bring back this information. Do you think it's a lie?"

"But this is only the Second Zone!" she protested. "Is it really suitable for newcomers?"

"Afraid already?" Charles Joe's gaze swept the room. "Forbidden Zones are forbidden for a reason. If they weren't dangerous, would we call them forbidden?" He paused, then added, "If any of you are too scared, you can still withdraw from school now, before it's too late."

A chorus of eye-rolls greeted him. Nobody expected a full refund on tuition just because they quit. These students had paid good money for this chance, and none of them would walk away.

Silence fell again. Professor Joe continued: "Most of what you'll encounter in Zone Two are zombies. The other monsters I mentioned are rare unless you're truly unlucky."

"As long as you don't make a lot of noise, you probably won't cross paths with those extra-dangerous mutants. And even if you do, that doesn't mean you can't win."

"That's all for the Second Zone overview. Go back, study your textbooks, and memorize everything over the next month. Don't enter the zone unprepared."

"Remember: you only get one entry per Forbidden Zone. Prepare thoroughly, and you'll reap more rewards."

"Also, your textbooks are classified. You may use them only on campus. Keep them safe after a month, they'll be collected. Lose one, and you're in trouble."

"In the next class, I'll teach you specific strategies for the Second Zone. For now, class dismissed."

No sooner had Charles Joe left than the classroom erupted in chatter.

"Holy crap! The Second Zone is that dangerous?"

"You just found out? Do you even know how many die in these zones every year?"

"If it's this deadly, I really don't want to go!"

"Professor literally said you can still quit now!"

"If the Second Zone is like this, what horrors await in Zone Three?"

"Now I understand why our high school teachers said that if you fail to resonate with a hero, you'll forever be ordinary. Without a hero's talent, these zones are death traps."

"But whatever the danger, I'm not backing down. If I quit and go back home, I'll end up toiling in a factory or working dawn to dusk on someone's farm!"

"For strength, for freedom from the grind, I'm all in!"
