Selena's heels clicked against the polished floor as she returned to the office with Amanda by her side. Lunch had been quiet, though Selena barely ate anything. Amanda noticed her boss's silence but didn't press; she had learned long ago that Selena only spoke when she wanted to.
Inside the elevator, Selena leaned against the mirrored wall and let out a long breath. Amanda glanced at her carefully, then at the glowing panel of floor numbers.
"Is everything okay?" Amanda asked softly.
Selena forced a faint smile. "Just… a long day."
Amanda nodded but didn't believe it. She could tell Selena was avoiding something, or more specifically, someone.
When they reached their floor, Selena paused just outside the elevator doors. "Amanda, I need you to work in my office today. Don't leave, no matter what happens. Just… stay there."
Amanda blinked, surprised. "All day?"
