Selena's face froze, the blood draining from it faster than she could process the words.
"I'm her baby daddy," Sam had said.
Jack stared at Sam like he'd just been punched in the chest. "What?"
Selena blinked, her heart thudding painfully behind her ribs. She hadn't even stepped fully into her apartment yet, her hand still on the doorknob. The air inside felt charged, humid with tension, like the final seconds before a thunderstorm cracked the sky open.
"I said I'm her baby daddy," Sam repeated, louder this time, his eyes locked onto Jack's like a dare.
Jack scoffed, then gave a disbelieving laugh. "Are you serious right now? What are you even saying?"
Selena took a deep breath and closed the door behind her. "That's not funny, Sam."
Sam turned toward her. "What? Who is this guy anyway? Why don't you tell him that the baby inside of you is mine?"
Jack shook his head, stepping forward. "You're pregnant?"
