The smell of waffles was the first thing Selena noticed when she emerged from the bedroom. The soft, golden, and warm from it, filled the air with comfort. Morning light spilled through the apartment windows, illuminating the small dining area and the man standing at the stove, spatula in hand, humming softly to himself.
Sam.
He turned just as she stepped fully into the room, and without missing a beat, walked over and kissed her forehead. "Morning, beautiful," he murmured, voice still gravelly from sleep.
Selena gave a small smile, her eyes a little tired from the restless night. "Morning."
Sam returned to the stove, flipping the waffles with the casual confidence of a man who had done this many times before. She watched him in silence for a moment, taking in the curve of his back, the ease of his presence. It felt so domestic. So... permanent, yet something inside of her started to feel uneasy.
