Chapter 7 - CHAPTER 7

Dante's POV

"Damnit!!!" I shouted as the sound of things crashing filled the room.

I was beyond furious because yesterday my elder sister, Marie was taken away by that lowlife beast, Mancini and I couldn't do anything but watch helplessly while she sacrificed herself for the family.

From the look in her eyes, I could tell she didn't want to do this, she doesn't want to marry that bastard but something is compelling her to. Marie has always been like this, self-sacrificing for others and I can't help worrying he'll see this side to her and take advantage of it.

All this wouldn't be a problem if our stupid father hadn't made any dealings with him. He couldn't take care of his family nor could he take care of his business.

I have to get my sister out of his clutches before it's too late, I cannot allow him to taint her, she always views this world with optimism and while I personally think that's naivete, I still don't want anyone destroying her world view. She's the only sunshine in this dark and desolate world, the only warmness I've ever felt.

I was in my father's study room, searching for his connections contact information. If I could join hands with some smaller Mafia branches, I could find a way to save my sister.

That was the plan but after an hour of searching that old man's study room, I still couldn't find it.

Nothing was going the way I wanted it to. Yesterday, I had previously asked my father for that information but ever since Marie left, he's been silent, staring off into space and giving vague or nonsensical answers to any question he's asked.

Ever since, I couldn't unsee how pathetic he is, his stupid dad bud just reminds me of how much he let himself go, being helpless and weak, unable to protect his own daughter.

I had no other choice but to look for it myself but to no avail. It would have been easier if I just had to break into his safe to get it but I don't know where that man hid his safe.

"What are you doing in here?" I heard a voice ask behind me, I didn't need to turn around to recognize the person that disgust me right now.

"Searching for your notebook." Notebook book is the term I have noticed he used to refer to it.

"Oh it's you, Dante." he responded but he seemed to be talking more to himself.

"Where did you keep it? Where's your safe? I need the information to help Marie!" I shouted at him but he was unfazed by it, or he didn't even hear me as always, I'm nothing to this man.

"Ah that's right, you need to come downstairs, Marie's friend is here to see us. She's always been with Marie so it must be tough on her, go comfort her." He said dismissively then walked away.

I scoffed at the irony of his words. I, should comfort her? Who's comforting me? Marie is my sister and that bastard is going to let a seventeen year (17) year old clean up the mess he made but if I don't do it, nobody else will be by her side.

I got a notification from my smartphone, it was a message from one of my allies in the mafia web, Caleb.

I had previously contacted him to help me find out any information or someone who has any information on Mancini and he's finally contacted me back with some info and a place to meet up.

I rushed downstairs in a hurry to meet up with Caleb when I met Patricia, Marie's childhood friend.

"Dante." She called out to me, she walked slowly towards me, her slender figure swaying gently as she came closer. "How are you? I heard what happened with Marie." She asked, her brown eyes glistened under the sun ray as she held back tears.

"She will be alright." I replied dismissively, hoping to keep the conversation short. Marie cherished her friend Patricia, they had been friends ever since they were young so it wouldn't be right to be rude to her but I can't stay and chat with her.

"Am sure she will be. You and your father must have so much weighing down on you right now? I would love to help out. I know Marie would want me to do this." She tugged behind some strands of her bright blonde behind her ears then took my hands. "You're still young, leave the responsibilities for the adults. I noticed your father was out of sorts, do you have any other trusted adult to take care of the business? You're still too young maybe..."

"I'm sorry, Patricia." I took my hand from her and checked the time from my watch, "I have other appointments and can't talk with you. Have something to drink before you leave." I said before walking away.

I hurriedly met up with Caleb at the hotel address he sent to me. He booked the entire top floor for our conversation and upon arriving, I noticed he wasn't alone but with a man, around his late twenties with him.

He must be the person with information on Mancini Caleb told me about through his text.

"You're finally here, Dante!" Caleb hissed, annoyed by my tardiness.

"I'm sorry, Caleb," I quickly apologized then turned to the man beside him, "Are you the one with the information? What is it? Spit it out, there's no time!" I urged him.

"Woah, calm down man! You don't even know the man's name yet." Caleb intersected.

He's right, I need to calm down. Everything in this line of business is money, and you make money with your life on the line, so no information, big or small, is ever free. It's foolish of me to show my desperation like that.

"This man here is Frank. Frank meet Dante, Dante this is Frank." Caleb introduced us.

"Hello, Dante." Frank reached out his hand for a hand shake and I took it.

"Hello."

"I can see how much you hate him, I do too. If you'll accept to join me, I'll divulge all the information I know about him."

"What kind of information are you giving? I need to know if I'm dealing with amateurs or not."

Frank laughed. "Okay he's a little something you don't know. Someone extremely close to that bastard Mancini is waiting, biding his time for the right opportunity to slit his throat."
