Chapter 9 - CHAPTER 9

Marie POV

The tears couldn't stop following down my cheeks no matter how much I tried to stop them. I had already told myself many times that I am used to the way things will be from now on, that I'm fine with the way my life currently is, that'll be okay if I just endure it for my family and honestly nothing surprises me anymore but still…. It still hurts being treated like this.

How could man be this cruel and cold towards a human being? Don't I look human? Does he think I wouldn't get hurt if he does this to me?

I wept on the ground for what felt like hours before I noticed something from my peripheral vision. It was a piece of paper.

I brought it closer to see what it said and was shocked by its content.

Its content is the name of Mancini's key associate, someone no one would have guessed is involved with him. The note is unsigned so I don't know who took the liberty of making sure I know this piece of information.

Someone, a staff from the mansion must have slid this note here to help them, who could it be?

This is good news for me because this means not everyone is loyal to Mancini as I had originally thought when I got here. There's a chance for me to make allies here and there hope for me.

All right, that's enough crying. I need to be strong for my family, my poor father who must be worried sick about me and my brother who hasn't even turned eighteen (18) yet. I have to do this for them.

After that day, Mancini kept a little distance from me again and I didn't mind it at all, I was glad actually.

Eliza was the only one willing to take care of my needs properly and so she became my target.

I realized she was also bullied by the rest of the rest there so she doesn't get enough food to eat.

One thing that Mancini makes sure I get is good food every time. I decided to eat little and pretend I couldn't finish it then lied that Mancini said I couldn't leave my plates unfinished so she should help me finish it. At first she refused but with my constant insistence, she reluctantly agreed.

She tried to eat as slowly as she could but I could see she was starving. Why is everyone in this estate naturally evil? Shouldn't this be studied?

She knows Mancini and I haven't spoken in a long while, my sim has been confiscated and any messages I receive from him goes through her so she knew it was a lie.

What I didn't let her know is that I know she knew I was lying so she'll think I'm doing this purely for her sake. Honestly, I do feel bad she doesn't get enough food to eat and it makes me happy seeing her eat as well.

I also keep her longer with me so the other maids don't dump their work on her like they always do.

On a sunny afternoon, while I was by the garden, I noticed Lionel escorting someone from the gate of the estate. From where I sat, I could see their figures approaching.

"She's a new maid." Eliza said to me. These days, she just gives me information or does things without me asking her. She sometimes suggests things I could do like today, she suggested I come outside to relax and see the garden.

"I heard they were bringing a new maid today, I believe she's the one." Eliza clarified.

"Hmm, is that so?" A new maid? What for? For who? "Is any maid quitting?" I asked.

"No, none that I know of." She responded as she poured more tea into my teacup.

I took a sip as I watched them walk further into the estate, "If not then why a new maid? I don't think the estate is short staffed." I added but the question was more to myself, wondering what Mancini could be thinking of this time.

"Could it be that someone is moving in?" I pondered out loud.

"I do not know, Ma'am."

"That's okay, thank you, Eliza." she nodded and stood by the side while I continued drinking my tea whilst watching their figures approaching.

The maid suddenly lifted up her head and our eyes met, she kept looking at me longer than expected with no visible expression on her face.

Lionel brought her attention back to him and then they entered into the mansion.

For some reason, I have a feeling she is trouble. Trouble either for me or Mancini, which, I'm not sure but she isn't here for a maids position.

That cold yet expressionless stare… she isn't who she says she is.

I spent some more time in the garden before deciding I needed to take a nap. I informed Eliza and together we walked back to my room but before we could enter, a maid, not one who was assigned to me, came and gave me a bouquet of dark roses.

"Ma'am, someone sent these for you." She handed the roses to me then quickly left after that.

There was a note in the bouquet and it read, "You deserve more, Marcus."

I didn't let Eliza see what the note said and threw the roses in the trash. I requested for a lighter which Eliza hurriedly got for me then burnt the paper.

I will never forget this message but I can't let Mancini see these otherwise he'll get angry like he did last time.

"Dispose of my trash can." I ordered Eliza and she nodded, quickly and diligently following my orders.

I quietly took note of the way Eliza behaves now. She is no longer keeping her distance and doing only what's needed but now she can have light conversations and carry out my special orders. I guess I can say I have an ally now.
