Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Fucking Gacha

{Do you like to redeem the compensation pack?}

"..."

Kanon lay in bed, sighed, and noticed the message screen popping up again. He got up and willed the screen to disappear, and it vanished.

He walked to his balcony and looked around the unfamiliar neighbourhood.

It's been 7 days since he came into this world, and he still has no idea what to do with himself.

Well, after his depreciation phase was over, Kanon pondered his situation. He rummaged around his house and found a few bank account books, his ID, and cards in his parents' closet.

There was a substantial balance remaining in the bank, so he began to contemplate whether to invest.

Ring, Ring…

He heard the doorbell ring and got to the door.

"Brother Kanon," Mikan called out with a smile.

"..."

Kanon sighed, seeing her, and asked, "Why are you here?"

Mikan tilts her head. "It was lunchtime. Of course, I came here to call you for lunch."

Kanon saw the time and, seeing it was, nodded, "Give me a second."

Kanon locked the door and followed Mikan to her house.

"Mom, I brought Brother Kanon," Mikan announced.

Ringo, preparing the lunch, welcomed him and urged him to sit.

Right then, a man walked in with dark circles beneath his eyes. "Ah, Kanon, you are here," Yuki Saiba, the father of Mikan and the husband of Ringo, happily greeted me and patted my head.

Kanon bowed his head. "Thank you for inviting me."

"No need to thank us; let's have lunch." Saiba pushed Kanon to one of the seats and sat beside him.

..

.

After their lunch, Mikan wanted to play, and so she asked him to go to the park with her.

Kanon, thinking it would help him to know more about his whereabouts, agreed.

Mikan was happy seeing him agree, which was kind of awkward for him, remembering just a few days ago, he had just denied her.

After they had left. Saiba, drinking some tea, said, "It seems he had started to get better."

"Yeah, he didn't have that lifeless look as before." Agreeing on that, they both fell into silence.

After a brief silence, Ringo nervously spoke up, "Dear, should we take him in?"

Saiba set his teacup down as he responded, "I don't see any problem with that. However, we should have a proper conversation with the kid first."

Reaching the park, I watch Mikan happily swinging on the swings with other kids.

While she played around, I looked around and found myself in a place called Sainan City.

"Sainan City, huh? It did ring a bell. But where did I hear it?" Thinking about it, I reached a conclusion. It might be one of those story-specific places where the protagonist was supposed to live. So now the next question arises: who is the protagonist?

Kanon scanned his memories, and the only thing he could recall was that there was a pink-haired girl his friend was going crazy about. He recalls his friend urging him to watch that anime, but he was busy watching JJK and forgot about it.

"Sigh."

It seems he was in an anime world after all. Now he has to figure out which kind it is. Hopefully, this isn't like that world where breasts give power-ups; if it is, it will really suck.

"Ugh, this is such a pain." Then there was the compensation pack.

[I might get some clues and something to protect myself. Maybe if I am lucky enough, I might get something overpowered.] My eyes sparkled thinking about the stuff that I can get.

"It's decided, after I go back home, I should open it," I nodded to myself.

In the middle of his stroll, he came across a scene.

"Can anyone please help?"

Kanon spotted a twin-tailed girl with black hair who seemed to be around his age, standing next to a small girl who was crying and pleading for help. Unfortunately, no one else was willing to assist them.

Kanon, walking by, decides to see what was going on.

"Hey, what's the problem?" I asked and crouched at the little girl.

The twin-tailed girl looked at me with a pointed gaze and then pointed at the tree behind her.

"Can you help us get the cat?" The girl requested of him, continuing to look at him with a sharp gaze.

Kanon couldn't understand why she was looking at him that way. Was it because he was a foreigner? As he thought about it, he realised that he spoke Japanese fluently. How did he not notice that? He briefly scanned his memories from this life and discovered that not only could he speak Japanese, but he was also proficient in several other languages.

[Pretty neat]

"Please help, Kitty is scared; she can't get down." The little girl, crying, looked at him.

I smiled at her and patted her head. "Don't worry. Leave it to me." I assured her with a smile.

I approached the tree and began to climb until I reached the branch where I spotted a small, grey-furred cat, shivering in fear.

The cat, noticing my presence, hissed at me.

Kanon, noticing the frightened cat, slowly reached out but stopped at a distance, allowing the cat to get used to his presence. As it calmed down, I gradually approached, scooped up the cat, and scratched its ears, making it purr.

Kanon put the cat on his shoulder and slowly got down, and handed the cat to the little girl.

"Here you go," I said, handing the little cat back to the little girl.

"Don't lose her, ok?" With that, I started to walk away.

"Wait."

Kanon stopped hearing the twin-tailed girl calling out to him. He looked at her questioningly.

[What does she need now?]

"Can you tell me your name?" She asked.

"..."

"It's Kanon Grandsley," he responded.

The girl, hearing that, bowed her head. "Kanon-San, I am sorry for looking at you like that."

Kanon remembers how she was glaring at her, shook his head, and said, "No need to apologise."

The twin-tailed girl noticed she hadn't introduced herself and spoke, "My name is Kotegawa Yui; it's nice to meet you."

==IMG==

I also respond with a bow, "It's nice to meet you, too."

"Um, Kanon-San, are you a foreigner?" Kotegawa Yui asked with an interested look.

I nodded. "Yes, I am. I have recently moved in."

Kotagawa looked at him with amazement. "Wow, you can speak Japanese so fluently."

"Haha… yeah, I learned it before I moved in," I said a bit awkwardly.

"Can I ask you where you live?" Kotagawa asked, strangely interested in him.

"Kanon," not seeing any problem answering her, said. "I live a few blocks from here."

"I see, then…" Kotagawa is about to ask more. Before she could, another girl called out to him.

"There you are."

Kanon saw Mikan running at him.

"I finally found you," Mikan said, looking at him poutily.

"Why did you leave me alone?" She glared.

"Ah, well, I saw you seemed to be having fun, so I didn't want to disturb you." Kanon's eyes darted.

Mikan then noticed the two girls behind him and looked questioningly at them.

Kanon then explained the situation to her about how he was helping the little girl.

"I see," Mikan nodded, her gaze softening.

"If that's all, we should get going," Mikan said, noticing it was getting late.

Nodding at her, I said my goodbyes, and we left.

"..."

Kotagawa Yui watched them leave and pressed her lips together. She wished she could speak with him more; he seemed like a nice and responsible boy, unlike the shameless ones in her class. Just thinking about it reminded her of the challenges she faced in school. She wished her classmates would behave a little more like him.

After finishing dinner in the Yuki household, I was about to head back home.

"Kanon?" Ringo called out.

I stopped and looked at her with questioning eyes. "Yes."

Kanon noticed she wanted to say something, but she kept hesitating, going through an emotional turmoil, and then finally settled into one. "Goodnight."

"..."

Kanon guessed she wanted to say something else, but in the end, changed her response.

"Goodnight," saying that I left.

[If it's something important, she will talk to him about it later.] thinking that he headed to his house.

Ringo, seeing him leave, sighed to himself, "Ugh, in the end I wasn't able to break the news."

{Do you like to redeem the compensation pack?}

The bluescreen floated in the air, urging me to accept.

"..."

"..."

"Well, I have waited enough."

With that, I willed it.

{I accept.}

Conforming to my will, the blue screen shifted, revealing another screen that displayed an image of a wheel, which reminded me of those local lottery shops. Just below it, the text read: {Begin the draw (0/1)}

Reading this, my brow furrowed in frustration, "DAMN IT!!!" WHY THE FUCK OF ALL THINGS, IT'S A DAMN GACHA!!!" He tossed around on his bed, very frustrated.

Kanon, lying on his bed, glared at the screen like he wanted to burn it down.

Sighing to himself, he gazed at the wheel and examined the items listed on it.

The items there didn't disappoint him.

Weapon: Longinus Boosted Gear, Weapon: Longinus Divine Dividing, Ultimate skill: Wisdom King Raphael, Weapon: Proto Excalibur, Cursed Technique: Limitless Weapon: Dark Repulser, Quirk: One for All, Item: Key to SSS Class Dungeon, Skill: Noble Phantasm Gate of Babylon, Bloodline: Saiyan Bloodline, Weapon: Legendary Shield and many more.

Kanon quickly looked through the list of items available. There were many useful items he wanted. If he could have his way, he would choose all of them, but unfortunately, he could only select one.

"If I can only get one, then…" He looked through the list and stared at the Ultimate Skill: Wisdom King Raphael.

This has to be it; in this modern era, it will be incredibly useful, and if magic existed, I would also be able to use it. But…

{Begin the draw (0/1)}

Remembering it was a one-time gacha, his happiness evaporated. "DAMN IT!!! WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE GACHA?" He cursed.

With a disappointed sigh, he looked through some more and stopped, seeing an item that strangely attracted him…

{Weapon: Spirit God Sword Evansmana.}

The moment he saw the name, Kanon felt a strange pull toward it. He didn't know why, but he had a feeling that said, "This had to be it."

Snapping out of his trance, he stared at the weapon. "Evansmana," he remembered. This weapon was used by one of the main characters in Misfit of the Demon King Academy. Strangely enough, the character who used the weapon was also named Kanon.

"Coincidence?"

"..."

"..."

He didn't know, shaking his head, he was ready for the Gacha.

{Begin the draw (0/1)}

"Do it."

The wheel began to spin, and Kanon, noticing it was taking too long, wondered, "Where is the skip button?"

Not finding any, he had no choice but to wait.

After about 5 minutes.

The spin slowed down as he anticipatorily stared at the wheel point.

The point slowly drifted past the label 'Ultimate Skill: Satanael, Lord of Wrath,' then continued beyond 'Rinnegan' and 'Kryptonian Bloodline.' It finally came to a stop at the label 'Evansmana,' only to move past it and settle on 'Door to Another World.'
