I woke with a gentle start, the morning light filtering through the curtains of our quarters. Stretching carefully, I took mental inventory of my body, half-expecting to feel the drain from last night's healing session. To my surprise, I felt... normal. Good, even.
"You're awake." Kaelen's voice came from beside me, deep and alert. He was already sitting up against the headboard, a tablet in his hands, but his eyes were fixed on me with that intense focus I'd grown to recognize.
"I am," I said, rolling toward him. "And I'm fine. Not tired, not achy, not lightheaded." I grinned. "Sorry to disappoint your worrying."
His lips twitched. "I'm never disappointed to see you well, little wolf."
I sat up, running a hand through my tangled hair. "Admit it. You thought I'd be bedridden today."
"I considered it a possibility," he acknowledged, setting his tablet aside. His hand came to rest on my cheek, thumb brushing my skin. "Your powers are unpredictable. We don't know their limits."
