The morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow over Seraphina's sleeping form. I couldn't tear my eyes away from her. Her rose-gold hair spread across the pillow like liquid fire, her hand resting protectively over the swell of her belly where our son grew.
Every instinct in my body screamed against letting her go. My wolf paced restlessly beneath my skin, agitated at the mere thought of her leaving the safety of our territory.
"You're staring again," Seraphina murmured without opening her eyes, a small smile playing on her lips.
"Can you blame me?" I reached out to brush a strand of hair from her face. "I'm committing every detail to memory."
Her eyes fluttered open, those remarkable golden irises fixing on mine with such love it made my chest ache. "You make it sound like I'm leaving forever. I'll be back before you know it."
"You don't know that." The words came out harsher than I intended.
