Chapter 1 - The End?!

04/04/2026 Gregorian Calendar

On earth, the sun shines brightly in a cloudless sky on a day in the beginning of summer. I can see over the top of some of the buildings in front of me giving a beautiful view of the city. I feel the warmth on my skin from the sun as it floods into my body down to my bones. I hear the ruffling of clothes as well as the whipping of the wind as it tears at my clothes and skin. It gives me a sense of oneness with the world around me, causing me to smile. Eventually I lose sight of the view as I pass the building in front of me, so I redirect my view below me, my rapidly approaching destination. My heart starts to beat crazily at the site, but my mind stay's blissfully quiet for the first time of my life. As I get closer, I start to notice some people pointing in my direction. I close my eyes as the rapidly approaching sidewalk becomes clearer.

After living a mediocre life being the scapegoat for his family causing him an endless amount of pain and suffering. The only highlight of his life was the decade out of high school that he worked in a think tank in the research and development department. He put his all into his work believing that experience and effort outclassed everything. Eventually, the company reached new heights and was purchased by a larger corporation. Unfortunately, this new corporation placed more emphasis on degree's than on knowledge. So, he eventually lost his job to his junior that had a degree.

Being a 35-year-old high school drop-out without a degree, the only jobs he was able to obtain were blue collar jobs that concentrated around physical labor. That put a strain on his out of shape body, eventually causing a series of chronic problems to develop. So, for the last 2 years of his life, he has spent it going back and forth from the doctor's while taking a series of medications for pain and more to offset some of the side effects of them.

Tired of being in too much pain to do anything and too groggy from the medication, he decided to stop taking them. That was two days ago, as he laid in bed in pain wondering about his future and contemplating his past he came to a realization, his life was shit and did not amount to anything. In this state of enlightenment, he came to a decision; that he should kill himself. Being a scientist, he knew of the most common ways people try to commit suicide and their chances of being survivable. The only two sure ways to die were with a gun or by jumping off a tall structure. He was poor, so he was unable to purchase a gun and that left him with the only option of falling to his death. Which sucked, because he was terribly afraid of heights.

Taking out his phone he started to search for the closest and tallest structure near himself. The first few were impossible to enter since they were private business's, eventually he found one that he could enter. Saving the address, he started to tidy up his home and placing all personal things in trash bags by the door. Once done he took a shower and put on the nicest clothes, he owned that he set aside while cleaning.

While driving to his destination he took in the city he had lived in for half his life is if for the first time again. With everything he has experienced thru out his life, this second look made him feel that the world was a dirty, chaotic, and sinful place, strengthening his resolve.

Eventually he pulls in the buildings garage and parking. He leaves his key's inside and unlocked with a note before entering the building. Once in the lobby he notices that one needed to register before being allowed access to the elevator, glancing at the list of companies, he picks one that did not need a reservation and walked up to the receptionist. After signing his name and reason for visiting he walked to and entered the elevator. There he noticed that it did not reach the roof, so he decided to go to the company since it was the only one that random strangers had access to and was near the top of the building.

It stopped once it reached the floor and the elevators opened to a receptionist with a sign behind her that read "Archetype". Noticing the emergency stairs behind the desk I approached the desk and the receptionist asked, "How can I help you today?"

"I would like to make a donation" I answered. "Wonderful, is this your first time?" she asked. I nod. "Then I will need you to fill these out first", she told me while handing me a tablet. After filling it out, I watch as some men left while others entered and read some of the posters, one saying "Your sperm gives hope to others." Eventually I was called back and handed a cup before being walked past the stairs into a small room with a desktop. "Feel free to take your time, there is no rush, and you can leave the cup in the locker inside," the woman says with a smile. I hesitated but noticing that she wasn't leaving I entered the room and closed the door behind me. Shrugging his shoulders, he gets started taking care of business.

After releasing a few last hurrah's, the man put's the cup into the locker as the woman instructed. He slowly opens the door and takes a peek outside to see if anyone was looking his way. Not noticing anyone, he quickly slips thru the door leading to the stairs and taking them to the roof. Upon opening the door, a magnificent site is laid out before him, drawing him to the edge of the building.

The sun shines brightly in a cloudless sky, casting a warm glow over the city below. The man stands at the edge of the roof, his heart pounding in his chest as he gazes out at the breathtaking view. The wind whips around him, tearing at his clothes and skin, but he doesn't flinch. Instead, he feels a sense of peace and acceptance that he hasn't felt in years.

The city stretches out before him, a sprawling mass of buildings and people. He can see the glint of sunlight reflecting off the glass and steel, and the sound of traffic fills the air. It's a stark contrast to the quiet and solitude of the rooftop, and for a moment, he feels a pang of sadness for the life he's leaving behind.

But then he remembers his decision, his resolve to end his suffering once and for all. He takes a deep breath, steadying himself for what comes next. He looks down at the pavement far below, and for a fleeting moment, he feels a flicker of fear. But it's quickly replaced by a sense of calm and determination.

He steps forward, his heart pounding in his ears. The wind rushes past him, and for a moment, he feels weightless. Then, with a final gasp, he falls.

The man plummets towards the ground, his body hurtling through the air. The wind howls around him, and he can feel the heat of the sun on his skin. But he doesn't struggle, he doesn't try to fight the inevitable. Instead, he closes his eyes and let's go, surrendering himself to the fate that he's chosen.

As he falls, he thinks of all the things he's left behind - the pain, the suffering, the endless struggle to find meaning in a world that seemed indifferent to his existence. And as he hits the ground, he feels a sense of peace and release that he's never known before.

In the aftermath, the man's body lies crumpled on the pavement, his life finally at an end. The world around him continues to spin, oblivious to the loss that it has just suffered. But for the man, the pain and suffering are finally over, and he can rest in peace.
