Chapter 2 - New Day

After the man brought the boy to his house, he provided him first aid, trying to keep him alive. After a period of unconsciousness, the boy began to slowly open his eyes to find himself lying on one of the beds. He slowly turned his face to the right to find the same man who had rescued him earlier sitting on one of the chairs.

The man looked at him, expressions of joy and happiness appearing on his face, and said to him with a big smile on his face: "You're awake! I can't believe you're really alive! Ahem, I'm sorry for my excitement, I'm just a little enthusiastic. I haven't seen any humans around for a while."

The man took a glass of water from a table in front of him and offered it to the boy. The boy grabbed the bottle and drank part of it. The man continued talking, saying: "I'm sorry if my way of speaking is strange, but I haven't met people for a while. My name is Jesse, what's your name?"

The boy looked at Jesse with puzzled looks without uttering a word. Silence filled the place and happiness began to disappear from Jesse's face a little, then he said to the boy: "Seriously? Don't you trust me? I know we just met, but I saved you, so I think that's reason enough to make you trust me."

The boy continued looking toward Jesse without uttering a word. All happiness disappeared from Jesse's face when he saw him not responding, then he said to him in a puzzled tone: "What's wrong with you? Why don't you answer me? Cat got your tongue?"

The boy's features changed and expressions of bewilderment appeared on his face. He opened his mouth and began touching his tongue. Jesse was puzzled by this action the boy took, but he was shocked when he focused a little on the boy's mouth. His mouth was completely deformed, his flesh torn with many broken teeth everywhere in his mouth.

Jesse felt strange about what he saw, but he immediately realized that the boy was mute, so he asked him to sit down. After they sat on the floor, Jesse began to speak and said: "I don't know if you knew this before or not, but I'll tell you just in case (and because I really want to talk to anyone). In this place, there are two types of creatures you need to be careful of.

Starting with the first type: The Wanderers are semi-human creatures, but they are closer to moving corpses than humans, where they are usually decomposed or have missing parts of their body. They attack any creature they see in front of them. A single individual doesn't pose a great danger since their physical build is usually slightly weaker than humans or similar to them, but their real danger lies in their huge numbers, where they are usually in groups consisting of at least 30 individuals, and that's what makes dealing with them difficult without special weapons.

The second type: The Strangers - I can't describe these creatures with a specific characteristic since each individual has their own special features. To give you an example, there are those who have the ability to control a person through direct eye contact, and there are those who have hidden bodies and can only be identified through their eyes, as they are the only visible part of their body."

After that, a strange sound was heard from outside. Jesse turned back, then got up from the ground and told the boy he would check the situation outside. He went toward the window and took a look through it. The place was empty outside as usual. He continued looking at the place until he spotted a crow near the area making annoying sounds.

Expressions of annoyance appeared on Jesse's features, then he said to himself: "Those damn crows! Their annoying sounds will attract the Wanderers again."

Jesse headed to one of his boxes and took out his pistol which was equipped with a silencer. He left the house and began searching for the crow. After a while, he found the crow in front of one of his house windows. He aimed his pistol at it and shot, but he missed, which made the crow scream louder, causing more disturbance.

Jesse rushed toward it while expressions of worry controlled his face as he said to himself: "This is bad, this is very bad." Jesse rushed toward the crow, grabbed it tightly by its throat, and shot it, making it fall dead to the ground.

Jesse took a deep breath, then began looking around the place with a tense face. After a period of quiet, Jesse felt a little reassurance, but it turned to terror as soon as he heard thunderous screams from afar. The Wanderers had heard the crow's screams, and they were heading toward Jesse's house.

The boy came out of the house, puzzled by the sound of screams. Jesse headed toward him and gave him a silver key, saying to him in a stern tone: "Take this key and head to the attic. You'll find a door at the end, use the key and open it, and bring any weapon quickly."

The boy rushed to the attic while Jesse remained in his place. After several seconds, Jesse spotted crowds of Wanderers running toward him. He aimed his pistol at them and began shooting. Some of them fell while others continued running toward him.

Jesse headed toward the house quickly, then locked the door and aimed his pistol at it. After several seconds, the crowds of Wanderers reached the place and began hitting the door forcefully, while Jesse remained standing in his place, shooting at the door hoping to kill some of them.

The boy reached the attic to find a semi-old door at the end of the place. The boy headed toward the door and used the key to open it. At the same time, Jesse continued killing Wanderers shot after shot while blood began flowing from behind the door, until Jesse noticed that his ammunition had run out.

Jesse looked at the door to find that the Wanderers were about to break it, while his heartbeat increased from tension. Jesse turned and began running toward the attic to get a weapon himself, but he stopped in his place when he found the boy behind him carrying a grenade launcher.

Jesse looked at him with looks full of worry, then pulled the pistol from him, aimed it at the door, and pressed the trigger, launching the grenade from the pistol, exploding the door and the Wanderers, scattering their remains everywhere. At the same time, a piece of wood was launched forcefully due to the explosion toward the boy's foot, making him fall from the intensity of pain.

Jesse quickly went to check on him. When he reached him, he found that the skin of his right foot had peeled off slightly due to the wood piece, so he brought the first aid kit to treat him.
