Evelyn POV
Damien's smile was captivating, he tap the chair next to him but his eyes never left me.
Understanding what the gesture meant, I sat beside and gave him a shy smile.
"Good morning, Evelyn. How was your night? Slept well? How are you feeling now?" He asked, his voice calm, gentle and sweet as he watched me intently.
"Yes, Alpha Damien. I had a good night's rest after our talk." I let out a light chuckle. From what I've seen so far, Damien is a kind and considerate man. He's very confident and also says how he feels and I can't help feeling drawn to him.
"Glad to hear that, my little fire." He said whilst ruffling my already messy hair. His blue eyes were sparkling under the golden array of the morning sun and his uncombed hair fell around his fair, giving him a boyish look. He looked so perfect as he stared softly at me and my heart kept thumping and I was worried he could hear it.
My stomach suddenly growled and I covered my face in shame while he let out a soft laugh.
"You're definitely hungry so we should eat." I heard him say then I heard the sound of a plate being placed in front of me.
"Try this."
I looked up and saw a sweet looking pastry, covered in filling and a cherry on top. I don't know what it's called but it looks very delicious and I feel it's going to be very sweet.
"I hear she wolves loves sweets, try it but if you don't like it then let me know."
I did as he said and tried the dish and just as he said, it was delicious. It was warm and fluffy, the filling on the outside made it more sweet. The flavor is a mix of strawberry and lemon. I don't know how the chef did this but this talent must be the reason why he's working in the palace.
"You seem to like it." His voice brought me back and I nodded immediately, he chuckled, "I'm glad but I would love to know which other things you like so I can prepare them for you."
He brought his hands and caressed my cheeks, "I loved the smile on your face just now, I want to see it again so let me know anything you like and I'll have it made."
Damien is such a sweet and warm man, he's confident and strong. Is such a man really my mate? Will I one day wake up and realize this moment is a dream?
*****
After breakfast, I returned to my room and a maid came to introduce herself as Lucy greenwoods. She was assigned as my personal maid and offered to show me around the pack house under Damien's orders.
I spent the next few days exploring the pack house with Lucy. Lucy gave a detailed explanation on every room in the pack house. It was both insightful and a bit annoying but I was thankful nonetheless.
The garden became my favorite place with it's dazzling display of different kinds of flowers, all very colorful and beautiful. I loved watching them early in the morning til time for breakfast because to me, that's when the place is most beautiful.
I especially love the peace and quiet of that time of the day and the little bustling sound from the inner quarters from the servants as the day progresses.
Lucy yawned then excused herself, "I'm so sorry my lady, please excuse me."
"No Lucy, I should apologize, because for me you've had to wake up early in the morning these days."
"It's my plea… sure." She says in between yawns. I chuckled slightly before getting up.
"Alright, I think it's time we head back." I said but a maid suddenly walked towards us and bowed.
"Excuse me, my lady but Alpha Damien has requested your audience in the meeting room, I'll lead the way."
"Alright." I responded as I followed as she led the way.
The meeting room wasn't too far from the garden and took 10 mins to get there and during that time I knew the reason I was being summoned there wasn't going to be a light matter but it didn't help much when I finally arrived inside the meeting room, standing in the center with round tables around me.
All eyes were on me including Damien's, his betas and advisors that I don't think I've ever met before. It was very intimidating and I wished I was told at least a day before to prepare myself, the 10 minutes walk wasn't enough.
An elderly man, probably in his early 60s suddenly stood up. "I'll address myself first. I am an advisor named Fji and I'll like to ask you some questions."
"Do you mind?" He asked and I shook my head.
"No you may." I tried to sound calm and composed but my heart was racing.
"Who are your parents?" He asked and I was mortified. Shouldn't the advisor of the Alpha know what happened to my father or is he pretending not to know?
"Ah… well you see… my father…"
"Which pack are you from?" He suddenly interrupted me.
What he did was annoying but I decided to just answer him, "I'm originally from…"
"What rank were your parents?" He asked, cutting me off again.
"Well if you would…"
"My questions weren't meant to be answered out loud," he cut me off again with a sly smile on his face, "It was for you, to ask yourself if you are worthy of being Luna and in my honest opinion after meeting you, I say you are not!"
He turned to the other advisors and it seems everyone was agreeing with him. I have to turn the tables somehow otherwise I truly won't be worthy and unlike what Damien told me, I won't be strong."
"Have you become senile old man? You didn't even let her answer your questions out loud or to herself." I heard Damien's voice from across the room. I remembered what he said, I should always hold my head up high and look him in the eyes.
I realized that ever since I came here, I haven't really met anyone's gaze.
I clenched my fists and decided to be brave. I met with the gaze of Fji, daring to show my determination, "I may not be of a royal bloodline or from a high rank unlike other candidates you would wished for Damien, your Alpha but he has chosen me to be his Luna and rule beside him and I intend to accept that responsibility and ensure the safety and stability of the pack."
