Chapter 2 - Getting A Feel Of It

To the point, I was reincarnated.

Pretty shocking at first, but I quickly got over it. I was more irritated that I have to live another life.

It is what it is I suppose.

But to think something like this exists, you would think something like this happens in only anime and manga. It was very mind boggling.

Well, no use dwelling on it. Just accept it and move on, it was already a headache figuring out where I was. I don't need another one.

I did get around to figure out that these people, who happen to be my parents, are named Paul and Zenith. They are likely in their early to mid twenties, perhaps a tad bit younger than me. They're practically young siblings to me. I'm not that envious that they have children this young, it's honestly better when you're more older and financially stable.

Or it's better to have none at all.

They talked for a bit before Paul kissed Zenith and pushed her down.

Guess he's feeling a bit frisky.

Now the thought that I have to suck a

a woman's tits just to get my nutrients gives me an unpleasant feeling, like a creepy pervert with a breast milk fetish. But it's either that or I starve. I know I said I was okay with dying, but I don't wanna suffer from starvation.

It's actually not a good feeling, so I had no choice.

"Rudy, where are you? Rudeus?"

Zenith was calling out to me but instead of listening to her and going to her, I crawled away. I wanted to explore, and I didn't want to be held. It's annoying when she cuddles with me and kisses me. I get that you wanna give your child a lot of love, but there's such a thing called too much. I needed some space from her.

After about six months of being here, I've gotten a good grasp of the language. Apparently, my name was Rudeus.

I was already bilingual in my past life since I knew English and Japanese. I grew up in America for a time before moving to Japan and living the rest of my life there. Mother was American, Dad was Japanese, met in America but dad wanted to be with family so they moved me and my siblings to Japan. So overtime, I went from just speaking English to learning and speaking Japanese. I do know a bit of Korean but not a lot, I don't really use it anymore.

So I picked up languages kinda easily.

I eventually crawled towards the kitchen to find the maid, who's name is Lilia, was cooking. I guess she noticed my presence, that she turned around and saw me.

You know, if I wasn't so emotionally reserved and a baby, I would've been head over heels for her. She was pretty attractive and very mature, definitely my type. I've been staring for too long, before she eventually got scared.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

"Hey, Rudy."

I let my guard down and Zenith caught me.

"You shouldn't wander off like that, you had mommy worried."

Well, I can't help it if you keep fretting over me.

I have to remind myself that I'm Zenith's first child, she's gonna keep worrying about me for the rest of my life. But still, I need my space.

Zenith noticed Lilia's concern, "what's wrong Lilia?"

"Lady Zenith, this may be a little difficult to say, but… well… perhaps Master Rudeus is afflicted by some…"

Has she noticed?

"Mm?"

"Ah…no, it's nothing." Lilia bowed her head before taking a glance at me.

"What are you being evasive for? He's just a child, he doesn't know better." Zenith smiled warmly at me, guess she hasn't caught on.

"No…", was all Lilia could say.

All I could was smile and pretend to not know better.

Later, Zenith put me down on a bench next to the window while she helped Lilia with cooking. I couldn't really move around unless I wanted Zenith to chase me again. So I have to stay put, at least I was able to get a good look outside.

During my observation, I began to notice how rural this place was. There was no gas, no electricity, no internet, nothing mechanical at all. Meaning, this place could be a medieval timeline. It makes sense right? In a lot of isekai stories, the main character gets transported to a medieval setting, where there's magic, swords, and a harem of annoying girls.

So far, I haven't seen magic but I have seen Paul practice with a sword outside.

It's also very green here, with lots of open fields of grass and hills. I must be living in a small village I suppose.

Sigh, I miss my computer and my phone. Those were my only comforts in my last few years. I wish I could build one here… maybe I could.

I couldn't, I'm smart but not that smart. If the timeline and setting is what I think it is, it would be pointless. I couldn't build a PC anyway, too much work. I'm just gonna have to get used to no electronics.

I guess my only source of entertainment right now is watching Paul do swordplay. It was quite fascinating, he's pretty good.

I wonder if I can learn to do that and be as good as him. If I only have the motivation for it.

I didn't realize I was losing my balance before falling on the floor and hitting the back of my head.

"Ahh…", I cried.

"Rudy!"

"Young Master!"

Both Zenith and Lilia rushed and kneel to me with the former picking me up and holding me closer to her.

"Are you alright Rudy?", she began rubbing my head.

You're not supposed to move a person's head after an injury like madam.

"Even after that, he isn't crying.", Lilia said.

Zenith stood up while walking towards a table. "There, there", where she placed me on.

"Just in case, I'll do a spell that will make the pain go away."

Oh? Could this be the isekai magic I've been theorizing about since I came to be?

She then placed her hand on my head and spoke a chant.

"Divine power is rich and nourishing. It offers the strength to rise again to those who lost their strength."

"Healing."

Her hand started to glow this green sparkling light. It was very pretty, a nice show indeed.

Once it was done, the pain was gone.

That was indeed a healing spell.

Zenith smiled, "well? It doesn't hurt anymore, right? You wouldn't know it, but Mommy used to be an adventurer."

To be honest, I had suspected it. It wasn't all that surprising, which was actually a let down. But the magic was a plus.

"I don't think Master Rudeus understands you, my Lady." Lilia said.

Zenith frowned a bit, "I guess it didn't really excite him like I thought."

I guess I was too serious.

Suddenly, Paul burst through the door. "What happened? I hear a loud-"

"Dear! Rudy fell on his head and…"

"Calm down, he's a kid. Of course he'll fall down sometimes."

Paul didn't seem too concerned over me.

"Besides, if he gets hurt, you could just heal him."

If I get my limbs chopped up or if I'm losing a lot of blood, would healing magic work then?

"But what if he gets hurt so badly that I can't heal him?"

"It'll be fine", he reassured her with a kiss.

Sure, I'll be a limpless bloody mess one day. But don't worry, it'll be fine. Hopefully healing can recover fully.

But I highly doubt it.

A few years have passed, and I'm able to walk. Of course I can't get anywhere that high, but at least I can maneuver a bit better.

During my observation in this house, I have discovered a chest filled with books. One was a story of a hero, one was the geology of the land, and a few others. But one of course did catch my eye.

It was a book about magic, so obviously I have to read it.

During my short time here, I've completely understood the language and alphabet of this world. I had to thank my "parents" for helping me, here and there, and Lilia too, surprisingly. I thought she found me quite… displeasing. I did ask her if she could help me but I didn't think she would accept. I assumed she would come up with an excuse like she was busy or something. It doesn't matter anymore I guess.

I began reading the magic book and what I found there was interesting at least. It had many spells with each different ranking. I could go over some and explain each ranking. But I'm not going to, I don't really like explaining things. I'm just gonna read the spells, say the chant, and see how it goes. If I die, I die, if I'm successful, then that's the story.

I tried using a water spell since it was obviously the safest element than fire, wind, and earth. It was pretty successful, I managed to pull off a single water ball. Granted, it was just a water ball that floated for a few seconds before dropping. I tried one more time before feeling nauseous and falling to the floor. The water ball landed on my crotch. I couldn't move a muscle, I guess that I had already suffered mana exhaustion.

Guess I'm not the typical op protagonist. That's fine, I don't mind working for it.

Zenith and Lilia found me that way, I explained that I fell asleep and wet myself during it. It was better than telling them that a three year old was somehow able to understand and use magic.

Over a year, I managed to get the hang of how magic works. Or well, how to build up my mana. I needed to repeatedly use magic everyday to build, I guess you could say tank. It's like breaking down your muscles, only to build it back up. I've only been using water magic, of course. So once I was confident about my mana ability, I went for a bigger spell.

That was a mistake as I blew a chunk out of the house.

Yeah… I don't have an excuse for this one.

Paul burst through the door, with Zenith and Lilia following him.

"What happened?" Paul shouted before seeing the big open hole.

Zenith noticed me on the floor, "Rudy!", she rushed to my side to hold me. As she slowly pushed me away to check for any signs of injury, she noticed the spell book next to me.

"Oh my, what's this?" She picked it up and read the contents.

I started sweating when she gave a mischievous smile. "Rudy, did you read this book out loud?"

That smile is kinda creepy. Not a good look on you…madam.

Honestly, if she's able to use magic, then it wouldn't be a problem if I did too. That way, they wouldn't mind.

That was the idea. But realistically, I could be shipped off to a magic school for powerful wizards since I used a pretty big spell. But if it means getting away from these people, it doesn't seem that bad.

Unless they experiment on me.

"Yes." I said straight up.

This caused Zenith to scream and jumped with joy. "Kyaa~ did you hear that dear? I Rudy is a genius! He can use magic! Our boy is smart."

Paul looked at the book Zenith drop, "but these are Intermediate spells. How could he understand what these mean?" He placed the book down.

"That just means he's really smart. He's gonna be an amazing wizard." She continued jumping.

But Paul crossed his arms, "I thought we agreed that if we have a son, he would be a swordsman." He said, frowning.

Zenith stopped her jumping, "but we can't let his talents go to waste."

"A promise is a promise."

"But you always break your promises Paul." She said, glaring at him.

They continued arguing back and forth until Lilia, who was in the middle of cleaning some of the debris, spoke up.

"Why not train him with both magic and sword. One for days, and one for afternoon." She said before leaving.

Then instantly, Paul and Zenith embraced each other and stared deeply into eachothers eyes. "Dear, we shouldn't argue in front of the child."

"Of course love."

So dramatic.

Then it was off to my training montage.
