Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Drawn Curtains 2

We prepared blankets and pillows in the floor and laid down next to each other, with anticipation for tomorrow, In a matter of minutes, I could hear Beth's steady breathing which indicated she was fast asleep, I laid on my side with my back facing her, and my front towards the window, the curtains were drawn together, so I couldn't see the the night sky, I didn't know for how long I just laid staring at the curtains, but long enough for nature to eventually take over and pull me into a distant memory.

Six year old me was lying down on a small bunk bed,in a fairly old room, the yellow flowery wallpapers on the wall were the brightest thing in the room, suddenly one of the orphanage care takers miss anne came into the room and found me lying on the toppest bunk completely covered with a white blanket.

"Amanda"! She called, aren't you going? ,

I didn't still bother to remove the blanket From my face and next Beth also came in looking worried, she was also six , she climbed the ladder and tried pulling the blanket off, but I refused to let go,

"Amanda, take off the blanket, we're going for a picnic, all the others are already ready, stand up, Amanda stand up,st-

"That's enough Bethel, leave here let's go,

"No, I won't leave my sister alone, I won't be going either, Beth said as she climbed down the bed and took off her shoes and climbed back up and laid next to me,

We heard miss Anne let out a sigh as she stepped out. I slowly pulled off the blanket when I was sure miss Anne had gone away, I silently stared at Beth when she asked

"Why wouldn't you go"?

" I'm scared"

" Of what"?

" I don't know"

" Don't worry I'm here now, and I'm not leaving ever again".

The image suddenly blurred as my eyes opened to reality, it was just a dream, I thought to myself, it wasn't the first time I saw images like that whenever I slept. I quietly stood up from the blankets so as not to disturb Beth, I walked towards the closed curtains and slowly pulled them apart, exposing the bright sky, the stars weren't scattered across the sky, but were clustered together, I stood motionlessly for an indefinite time until I felt my eyelids grow heavy and went back to the blanket and slept off, but this time, bit was a dreamless sleep
