These Characters Won't Leave Me Be!

When I first came into the book, my goal was just to survive as a doomed character. So I worked hard. I stayed out of trouble. I smiled when needed. I was ready to walk my own golden path. But then- "Wherever you go, I'll follow. If you try to leave me...I won't allow it." That's what the side character, who was supposed to die, whispered as he clung to me like a lifeline. His eyes were disturbingly sincere. "I can't stand without you. Got it?" And that was only the beginning. "I'll kill anyone who disrespects you again." My older brother, the male lead, said that with a gaze far too sharp to be comforting. "You're one of my people. No one will dare lay a hand on you." That came from my sister-in-law, the heroine herself, as she patted my head like I was a treasured pet. "I'm looking forward to dining with you, son." That was from my mother. The same mother known as the empire's coldest, most terrifying woman. But the real problem? My father smiled at me, amused, and then said. "Independence? Go ahead. Try it. Just know that if you leave, I won't let a single ant survive on this land." They're all acting wrong. Too wrong. This wasn't in the book. I swear, I only did my best...!
