Noticing my bewilderment, Kyle spoke, a pained expression twisting his face. A man being forced to propose to a monkey against his will would have looked happier than the detective did at that moment.
“There is only one way to handle this.”
“What are you talking about?” I asked.
“We need to increase your stamina.”
“What?”
“Were you paying any attention at all to the doctor earlier?” Kyle grimaced. “I will make sure you have sufficient energy to endure any magic draining from your body. That way, I can ensure that you won’t try to pull any tricks.”
“Wait, you really don’t have to put yourself through any trouble,” I protested in disbelief. “In fact, please don’t.”
Violet eyes ablaze with determination, Kyle insisted, “It is part of the investigation!”
