Thankfully, the person at the door was someone I had no qualms about letting in. A gray-haired, white-bearded doctor was standing before me, and I hasted to let him inside. Once in the living room, the doctor sat me in a chair, setting down a briefcase filled with various equipment next to me.
Using a syringe, he drew some of my blood before dripping it into a peculiarly twisted tube. The tube was plugged into some sort of machine, and with the addition of my blood, steam started to rise from the bizarre contraption.
“This is a magical device that measures the nutrients in your blood. It’s a new invention from the Laurentian Ministry of Magic!” the doctor explained excitedly, flipping a switch on the machine. Immediately, the square screen at the bottom of the tube lit up red and began to blare a prolonged, earsplitting sound. Kyle’s face stiffened at the siren while the doctor read the numbers on the screen solemnly.
