Chapter 6 - Supernatural medicine

06: Supernatural medicine

Melodie was unable to sleep a wink that night. Which was a very serious issue for someone who loved to sleep and could pass out five seconds after closing his eyes on a bed.

All night, he kept on thinking about different ways to retrieve his camera and Helena's book from his male gods. And in the many hours spent thinking, he wasn't able to come up with a single solution.

He was sure that his idols would now be on guard forever because he was on the loose. Melodie was also sure that they hated his guts and never wanted to see the sight of his face again.

So how would he be able to get his stuff back from them?

He could leave Helena's book in their hands as they already knew the extent of the content anyway, but he couldn't do the same with his camera.

That was one of his most expensive purchases. Plus, the storage did not only have photos of Aslan and Remington, it had photos of his countless other male gods spread out across the world!

That camera was the core of this stalking habit of his. Melodie didn't know what to do.

He wanted his camera back so bad…

But for the meantime, he had classes to attend since it was already morning. Melodie took another bath and got dressed in his uniform.

The uniform here at Gifted Academy was based on an individual student's aptitude. Esper students had a different uniform from Guide students.

An untalented seed like Melodie had a uniform that was vastly different from both kinds of students. Since he didn't have any special abilities, Melodie was admitted under the academy as a medical merit student.

After Melodie turned sixteen and realized that he wasn't going to differentiate into an Esper or a Guide, he took the next reasonable step. Which was to go into the field that was closest in range to a Guide's work—Supernatural Medicine.

Supernatural medics were like doctors but they took care of only Esper and Guide patients using healing byproducts from dungeons or extracting guiding power from a Guide and refining it into pills.

In this field of study, Melodie could still be close to the talented individuals of the world despite not being one of them.

Melodie wore his all-white uniform with a medic badge on the left breast pocket of the shirt. At 160cm height with a lean body, he ensured his uniform was fitted so he could appear smart.

His slightly-long brown hair was brushed without any regard for a proper style and his baby face didn't need much of anything to give him the look of a confused cute fool.

Melodie left for his first class of the day which was Introduction to Monsters.

The courses in Gifted Academy were obviously not the average Chemistry, Math, and English classes. All the courses were in relation to dungeons, combat, and special ability training.

Melodie was fifteen minutes early to the class. When he got there, the seated students were only a handful. But in that handful, he found a person he didn't even know he had been looking for.

Melodie rushed to the middle of the class and yanked on the ponytail of a blonde-haired girl.

"Ouch! What the fuck!?" The victim exclaimed in pain as she turned around to look at Melodie.

Melodie didn't let go of the hair in his hand as he gritted out, "You effing sly, do you have any idea what happened to me yesterday because of you?!"

"What did I do??" Helena questioned, trying to free her hair from Melodie's tight grasp.

"You- you- ugh! Fuck you!" Melodie let go of Helena's hair in frustration, then used his butt to shove her away and replaced her space on the bench she had been sitting on.

The other people in the classroom had ignored the exchange between Melodie and Helena as it was usual for them to do weird things in class.

After Melodie was seated comfortably in Helena's space, he narrated the events that transpired between him and his idols in her absence. All through his narration, Helena's mouth hung open.

And at the end of it, she managed to close her mouth as she placed a finger on her lips, wearing a thoughtful expression.

"Gosh, no wonder…" was the first thing Helena said after a while.

"No wonder what?" Melodie inquired with a frown.

"This morning, I heard that the two of them were thrown into an A-Class dungeon alone to clear out. I had thought it was some kind of test for their abilities, but after listening to what you just told me, I'm sure Uncle Jay must have used this way to punish them." Helena explained pensively.

It was Melodie's turn for his mouth to hang open.

His idols were sent to clear out an A-Class dungeon by themselves!? Even though the two of them were S-Class, a normal A-Class dungeon needed a team of five people at least to clear the place.

And there wasn't even a guide sent along with them to the dungeon. What if something bad happened to them in the dungeon? It would all be his fault!

Melodie began to bite his nails in worry.

"Fuck, this is all my fault. What am I gonna do if they get offed inside the dungeon?" Melodie said to himself anxiously.

"It's not your fault," Helena placed her hand on Melodie's shoulder, trying to comfort him with her words.

Who would have expected that Helena's action would backfire on her as Melodie slapped her hand away and looked at her with hateful glare?

"It's not my fault, it's yours!" Melodie accused her.

Helena placed her hand on her chest and said, "My fault? How is it my fault??"

"If you didn't have a 'stomach ache', we would have left together and I wouldn't have been tempted by Aslan's water bottle. Also, your dumb book was what angered them in the first place as they thought it was mine. So it's your fault."

Melodie shamelessly put all the blame on Helena as he couldn't handle the fact that he would indirectly be the cause of his idols' probable deaths.

"No way. What about your camera? The pictures you took must have been what made them mad! Also, who asked you to get tempted by the water bottle? You would have just left it alone, but your little greed made you go after it and led you into this situation." Helena bit back, holding her ground against Melodie.

"No way, it wasn't greed! I'm inno–"

"Good day, class!" A strict feminine voice sounded in the large classroom, silencing Melodie in an instant.

Melodie looked ahead and saw that their lecturer had arrived and the class was already filled up with students. He couldn't continue arguing with Helena and had to swallow his anger for the meantime.

However, deep within his heart, Melodie knew that he was the one to blame for everything. But his brain refused to let him take the fall for it.

He was innocent this time, and every other time as well.
