~~~ [START]
Her skin was on the darker side, eyes dark brown and her hair a dirty-black version of what looked to be a bob cut.
Her clothes were new, with their tags still hanging from their collars. Her body had fragments of mud, and her hair seemed no different.
Their eyes remained interlocked, and discomfort creping onto Vlad's spine as he noticed her slightly uncomfortable posture.
He smiled a bit, slightly bowed his head, then continued to the counter, ignoring her presence entirely.
She didn't move when he did this. She just remained stunned in her position.
Vlad reached the counter, greeted the cashier, then paid for his sweets and left.
He didn't look back or hesitate.
Just walked to his bike, started its engine, then drifted away.
The rain, something that had shown no signs of falling, immediately poured right after.
No clouds to announce its ascent. No thunder to speak of its pressure. Just unannounced waterfalls.
Falling to witness the encounter of an immortal and a newly changed dog.
_______
The alarm didn't ring to wake him up this time.
Vlad just opened his eyes, got up from the comfort of his bed, and made his way to the bathroom.
The shower was hot, very much so. Yet Vlad didn't make any attempt to decrease its temperature; he simply let the hot, steaming waters fall on his skin, and just as expected, Vlad felt nothing, but only the pleasure that came from its warmth.
Walking back to the living room completely naked, Vlad jumped onto the sofa, turned on the TV, then opened up the only show he felt could dull his boredom, Iron Chef.
Picking up his phone, Vlad noticed the unending rows of unopened messages. He didn't want to reply to them, or at least some, since truthfully, he didn't consider most of the people they belonged to his genuine friends.
But at the very top, pinned above each other message, was one he would always reply to:
{Vlad… I want my money}
He laughed as he read the message.
{I'll give you at school}, he tried to reassure.
{It's Saturday} the message continued. {You want me to wait for two days?}
He frowned as he read this.
{Okay, what's this about? } he typed back, feeling the hidden motive behind the messages. {Tell me what you want, Bella}
It took some time for the message to get a reply.
{Make it up to me}
The message stunned Vlad to the very core. 'Make it up to her?' He thought, as his memories drifted to Alice, who had once said a very similar thing.
{Nah, I'll pass} he replied back, but his message proved to be ineffective, because immediately, Bella called his phone.
He answered.
"Beautiful," he said, with a large smirk playing at the ends of his lips.
"Don't call me that," she shot back. "Come over; we need to talk."
His eyebrows raised as she spoke.
"…"
It was silent for a while.
"It's either you pay me now or you come over."
He sighed when she said that sentence, loud enough for her to hear.
"I don't own condoms, and the last thing I want is a baby," he said, but Bella ignored his tactics. She had grown too accustomed to the way he spoke.
"Just come over."
BEEP!
She hung up. Vlad sighed in the silence.
Then he saw it, right below Bella's contents, was a message from Alice.
It wasn't a greeting, nor was it a speech. Just three simple words:
{wanna hang out?}
Seated in the living room of a small, structured house, Leah had her head tilted downward.
In front of her, seated in a wheelchair, was Billy.
His expression was unreadable, but his eyes held something that even his poker face couldn't mask, absolute disappointment.
"Are you that arrogant?" His mask was shaking. "How many times did we ask you to stay inside?"
And Leah, the person he was speaking to, said nothing.
Rebecca walked in with a tray of tea.
Yet Billy still kept his eyes fixed on Leah as she did this. She placed the tea on the coffee table, then walked toward one couch, sat down, and fixed her eyes on both of them.
Billy ignored her presence.
"What would have happened if you went out and attacked the Cullens?" he asked, but she still didn't reply. "What if you lost control?" His voice was slightly raised. "What if they…?"
"I didn't lose control," she tried to shoot in.
"That's not the point," Rebecca softly intervened.
Billy moved his hands and rubbed his head. Took a moment, then turned his eyes back toward Leah.
"The tribe has never had a female shifter before," he acknowledged. "It is unknown why the shift was even possible. But whatever reason it might be, it is unprecedented."
For the first time throughout the conversation, Leah raised her head to look at him.
"Moon children," Billy said. "That's what they call us." He sighed loudly as he picked up the tea jar and poured himself a cup. "Now, that's what they call you." He glared at Leah, showing that his words were pointed directly at her. "They are monsters, and they mistakenly associate us with mindless werewolves," his voice hinted at an anger that ran far deeper, "but they are mistaken. We are Shifters, and In our blood, the blessing of Revan and Coyote rests within, a blessing that gives us power far greater than any bloodsucking cold one."
He took a sip from his cup.
"That day, when you accompanied me to the Cullens," he looked to her, "that was the day that blessing awakened, and it would be foolish to believe that something that has never happened in the history of our people happened by mere coincidence."
He placed the cup of tea down on the coffee table and fixed his eyes on Leah once again.
"Now tell me," he said, "tell me about this… imprint."
