Chapter 1 - A Discarded Drill

*Yahwah/GOD (DXD) POV*

*Date: November 13th, 1410*

*Location: Throne of God*

Failure is all I saw in the future; failure upon failure. No matter how many times I change things or how I modify the system that manages prayers and sacred gears, it fails. Even in the few times I survive, this world will still be ended by either the hand of the Beast of the Apocalypse Trihexia, or the beings from that other world, ExE would invade in nearly 92% of the timelines, they would destroy this world and conquer it. Even then, in the other 7%, the world would be an essentially lifeless environment, with the 1% being a miracle.

That wouldn't be enough even if this Issei Hyoudou could provide that miracle, I can't take that chance on that one percent. No, that needed to change; another factor needs to be included that was unsuspected, that these machine gods and apocalyptic beasts would never suspect. That's when something changed, a new figure appeared in my vision. It was a regular human, a schoolboy if the year accounted for anything.

The strange thing was, though was a certain item he had, one that I had devised in the past but thrown away due to not meeting the proper requirements for a sacred gear. Yet here it was, so many years later, in the hands of a human, the spiral still going outward toward infinity. Toward a future that was far more certain, that had the possibility of shattering this dark future. Seeing this, I couldn't help but let myself smile, knowing that this future could be prevented, and that was a sight worth seeing.

"Father did something in the future change?" One of my archangels, Gabriel, asked, Honestly, I think I focused a little too much on her assets when creating her. Oh well, it would work itself out in the end one way or another, and oddly enough, she was one of my more innocent children.

"Yes, my child, I've seen the path to victory, and it is going to be an amazing future." Saying that, she smiled, filled with hope, far more than I've seen in recent times during this long war.

She couldn't have known that to reach this bright future, the two individuals must be free to live their lives, free of the influence of either Heaven, Gregoir, and the Underworld/Hell. I felt horrible for lying to her, for knowing that to solidify it would require the sealing of Trihexia, and the deaths of the four satans and...me. It would leave my children heartbroken and the system of both heaven and management of sacred gear in a dire state, but it would be needed.

As I slowly rose out of my throne, I began floating out of heaven itself, knowing that my final battle and the one that would hopefully end this war, as it did in most timelines I've seen.

"Simon Kagutuschi, huh, I suppose my discarded little drill will be far more useful in your hands than in the hands of beings who can never truly change, not without drastic measures anyway."

"So, as I face my final battle, I hope those two kids can help lead this world down a bright path to an amazing future."

*Simon Kagutuschi POV*

*Date: March 25, 2008*

*Location: Heiya Town, Midori Path*

Walking home on my last day of high school, you'd think I'd be ecstatic, but really, I was just depressed. My classmates and friends have all these plans and things they want to do. Here I was, though, just a simple guy who liked to dig holes and see if I could find anything interesting. Was it a weird pastime, yes, but it was something I enjoyed, and well, I did try to find a career or some job related to digging, but the closest I could find was an archaeologist, but it-it didn't feel right either.

I mean, don't get me wrong; I'll have to find something to do soon, but well, I was technically an orphan with a small place outside of town, so I could take my time with it. That didn't mean to take forever, of course, but it just meant I would probably have a lot more alone time to myself to think things over, maybe do some soul searching or research into possible careers/schools.

Right now, though, I was just going to enjoy the day and my walk home, I mean, sure, our town wasn't the biggest or the most breathtaking, but it had its own certain charms that no one could deny. For example, right now I was passing by an old bridge, and yes, it didn't sound like much, but the way plant life grew out of it and the flowers orientation as well, well, it looked like its own little rainbow, one that stayed year-round.

Stopping in front of it, I was able to see the various large groups of flowers, with them all mostly growing in specific groups of red, orange, yellow, and other flower colors. I was pretty sure a long time ago, when the bridge first started not being used, someone or some group started planting flowers here, and well...they took to it apparently, and really well at that.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I thought they were a collection of invasive species or something like that at first till I did my own research and well found that it was a more local species. By local, I mean really local; these little plants couldn't be found almost anywhere else, besides maybe the outskirts of town, and even then, not in large groups like these. I mean, whoever had the idea to create this did an amazing job arranging it, alongside the color palette and a nice use for local plants.

That's when I noticed something weird hiding underneath the bridge, it was some weird shadow. I didn't pay much attention to it at first, mostly because I thought it was a trick of the light at first, but then I saw it again, alongside freakishly long fingers creeping out of the tunnel near the left side of it.

Seeing that only one thing came to mind, the one thing every human, upon seeing something utterly impossible/unnatural, would do.

"Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope." I said to myself as I began quickly walking away, not wanting to know what was happening, nor wanting any part of whatever it was.

That was until I heard someone screaming. It was a woman around my age, I think, and well, that stopped me dead in my tracks. That's when I started walking backward, and stood in front of the bridge, unsure of what to do, so I did the perfectly normal thing of taking out my cellphone to call for any emergency services, only to be greeted with no bars, and that meant that right now someone was in danger.

{Dammit, Dammit, Dammit, why am I doing this!} I thought aloud as I began running toward the bridge, my little drill necklace swinging around my neck as I ran.

I mean, I knew this was probably a stupid idea, but I had to help, I had to try and make sure whoever was being attacked.

"I really hope I don't regret doing this!" I shouted to myself, hoping no one else heard that and that the attacker didn't hear me as well.
