Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Impressive, Brother

This mission was carefully planned by Nawaki.

After all, the newcomers were still too weak. Even Minato, at best, was just at chunin level—barely C-rank strength, and that might be overestimating him.

If they were sent to another world using the Reincarnation Talisman, they wouldn't even be able to earn enough to cover the "fare." It would be a total waste—unless Nawaki further enhanced the teleportation function so that it could allow free travel between worlds without spending points. Only then could he start sending rookie Reincarnators to other worlds for missions.

But doing missions in the Naruto world? That required careful enemy selection…

The opponents couldn't be too strong—otherwise, the rookies would be wiped out instantly.

They couldn't be too weak either—otherwise, there would be no real trial by fire between life and death.

And they absolutely couldn't be thrown into the battlefield—too much risk of exposing things.

After some thought, Nawaki crafted this mission with a very specific intent.

It wasn't about point gain—it was about training. These little rookies wouldn't bring him much in terms of rewards.

However, every time a Reincarnator's strength improved by a tier, Nawaki himself would gain a large sum of points…

"Pfft, what's this 'Hoshigakure'? Never even heard of the place, and its leader dares to call himself a 'Kage'?"

One of the Sunagakure shinobi sneered as he read the mission details on the translucent screen, clearly unimpressed with the so-called Lord God's claims.

Dragged here by some unknown ninjutsu and shown some flashy effects—and now they were supposed to risk their lives on command? Ridiculous.

Omnipotent? If the Lord God was really that powerful, why did he need help completing tasks? Why not do it himself?

The others seemed to share similar doubts. They didn't fully trust this supposed Lord God.

Only Nawaki suddenly stood up.

"Big Brother Nawaki, what are you doing?" Kushina asked, puzzled.

"Going on the mission, like the Lord God said," he answered plainly. Then, noticing the uncertain stares from the others, he sighed and added with slight exasperation:

"You're not seriously thinking of just sitting here doing nothing, are you? Think about it logically—if some unknown being has the ability to bring us all here unconscious, then killing us in our sleep wouldn't be any harder."

"What if he has some other purpose for keeping us alive?" a voice interjected.

Nawaki turned and saw that it was the golden-haired, soft-spoken boy—young Minato Namikaze.

He chuckled and replied, "And what kind of goal would involve dumping us in the middle of nowhere and putting on this smoke-and-mirrors act? If that's the case, I'd rather check out this so-called Hoshigakure and see if the Lord God's claims hold up."

Minato nodded slightly, clearly agreeing with Nawaki's logic.

At that moment, the masked Sunagakure shinobi let out a cold laugh.

"Nice speech, brat. All that just to convince us to go along with the Lord God's orders? I bet you're in on this whole thing! This is all a Konoha conspiracy!"

Seriously? Impressive, brother!

When the masked Suna ninja started speaking, Nawaki had tensed up, thinking he might have blown his cover.

But when the guy finished his rant, Nawaki relaxed.

What a moron. Scared me for nothing.

He wasn't actually being accused of the truth, just randomly smeared with baseless accusations—yet somehow, the guy still managed to come close to something he really wanted to keep hidden.

Now was the time to act naturally. He couldn't let them suspect anything.

Yes, just act normal…

"Wood Style: Great Buddha's Hand!"

With a cold voice, Nawaki formed the Ram hand sign.

In the next moment, two massive wooden stakes—each several meters thick—burst from the ground beneath the two troublesome Suna ninja and launched them into the air.

Before they could react, the tops of the wooden pillars transformed into two enormous wooden hands, seizing them in their grasp!

"W-what kind of jutsu is this?!"

"Wood Style? Is this Wood Style?! Let us go!"

"Impossible—how can you use Wood Style?! Isn't it supposed to have died out with the First Hokage?!"

The two chunin panicked, struggling desperately, but couldn't move at all—as if encased in iron.

Even Kushina and Minato were stunned. And as for the trio of Nagato, Yahiko, and Konan, who had only just begun learning under Jiraiya and lacked much worldly knowledge, their eyes were wide with shock.

None of them had expected this older boy—barely a few years older than themselves—to wield the legendary Wood Style, let alone subdue two chunin so effortlessly.

Strong?

Nawaki already possessed the Sage Body. That alone gave him at least chunin-level strength. If awakening Wood Style wasn't enough to one-shot a couple of chunin, he might as well slam his head into a rock.

Looking up at the two trapped Suna ninja, Nawaki's gaze turned icy.

"We're all stuck in the same situation. I didn't intend to use force. But it seems you took me for an easy target. A couple of low-level chunin? I've killed more than your share on the Rain war."

Rain war…?

Yahiko, Nagato, and Konan looked at Nawaki in surprise. He had fought in that war?

Facing Nawaki's killing intent, the two Suna ninja immediately wilted.

They'd only acted tough because Nawaki's group looked young and inexperienced. But they'd clearly picked the wrong target.

"We were wrong—it was our mistake! Please, let us go!"

"Didn't the Lord God say we can't kill people on the same team? If you kill us, you'll die too!"

The two of them shouted in desperation.

Nawaki frowned, as though weighing his options. Only after sweat the size of beans had formed on their foreheads did he finally grunt coldly:

"I'll let you off this once. But if you provoke me again… Even if I can't kill you, crippling you should still be within the Lord God's rules."

With that, Nawaki casually waved his hand.

The massive wooden hands flung the two ninja like rag dolls, slamming them hard into nearby tree trunks.

They coughed painfully, blood trickling from the corners of their mouths, but dared not say a word. All they could do was lower their heads and harbor resentment in silence.

Cowards who only bully the weak.

Without a second glance, Nawaki turned and headed into the forest. The red-haired Kushina quickly followed after him.

Far from frightened, her eyes gleamed with admiration and excitement.

"Big Brother Nawaki, that was amazing! That really was the legendary Wood Style, wasn't it? Did you inherit it from your grandfather?"

Children raised in wartime valued strength above all.

Minato followed along as well, clearly approving of Nawaki's handling of the situation.

Nagato, Yahiko, and Konan exchanged glances, as though coming to an unspoken agreement—and silently followed behind too.
