Two Days Later
POV - Cale
Tipton is going to get us in trouble. But I REALLY wanna see what happens.
"Come on, I found this place last week. We can do it here." Tipton said. He was seven, so he should know.
I followed him into the building, and he took us down some steps. There were bars down here, and one light far in the back. Me, Tipton, Sean and Cole all went to the light. It smelled down here. Like damp and musty. Something else too, but the musty overpowered it.
"Ok, which one of us is gonna do it?" Tipton asked.
"Not me, my Mama would get really mad." I said.
"Cale," Sean said. "All of our Mama's will get mad. That's why we came down here to do it, so they won't see."
Cole spoke up. "Yeah, so no telling it was us."
"Then, which one?" Tipton asked again.
"I vote Cole," Sean said.
"Not me! Why not you, Sean?" Cole complained.
Did my ears catch a sound? I listened, but the argument continued.
"I say, let's do Cale." Tipton said.
"No, my Mama's upset enough, we still haven't found Papa. Not doing that." I said. Mama's been crying the whole time. She misses him. So do I.
"Ok, then… rock paper scissors, between Sean and Cole." Tipton said.
"Hang on, I said, how come not you, Tipton?" I asked.
"Because I'm the oldest and it was my idea." he said. Made sense to me.
Cole lost.
Tipton pulled over the bottle we had brought with us.
"You can't get it in my nose, ears, eyes or mouth." Cole said.
"Ok, just your hair then." Sean said.
"Yeah, like shampoo." Cole said.
"Is it the same kind we use at school?" I asked Tipton?
"No, my Papa says it's stronger." he said.
"Whoa." I said, now I really wanna know.
Tipton poured the glue on Cole's head, and we all hurried to make sure it only was on his hair. It did mess like shampoo. I wonder if it would stay white or dry clear like school does. The smell of the glue took over every other smell, even the musty. After we got the glue on Cole's hair, we all started wiping the glue off our hands onto our clothes so our hands didn't stay sticky.
"Now what?" I asked.
"We have to wait until it dries." Tipton said.
"That's boring, can't we just come back later?" Sean said.
"No! You can't leave me down here by myself!" Cole yelled.
"Fine… then… Cale can stay with you, we'll come back in an hour." Tipton and Sean took off.
"Hey!" I yelled and chased them, but I stopped, I looked back at Cole. No, it's not fair to leave him. We just put glue in his hair.
"Did you stay, Cale?" he asked in a small voice. He thinks he might be alone.
"Yeah, I'm here." I said. "I'll stay down here, but I'm gonna look around, it's boring."
"Okay." He said.
Ok, this time, I definitely heard something, from the dark room over there. Am I brave enough? I listened. I didn't hear any rats. There it is, sounds like a shoe on the floor, like if you try to scoot back but it slips.
I am brave. I'm almost five! I stepped into the shadow, and now the light from outside shines in, and I can see. Someone's on the floor. I check Cole, so he can't see me. Who is this? I focus on my colors. Who's bond does this belong to? Nothing goes to him. I can fix that… If he's still alive. His foot moves again. He is. I wish I could smell him, but the glue is everywhere.
I approached him, I like practicing making bonds. I wish I could tell someone about this, but I don't think anyone would believe me. I touch his shoe, but he doesn't move. I move my hand up until I touch the skin under his pants. And make a bond. He inhales sharply.
Wait, that didn't go somewhere new. Where did it go? I follow it… it's Papa's bond!
"Papa!" I yelled. He flinched, but didn't wake up.
"Cole! I'll be right back, I gotta get a grown up!" I said.
"No! We'll get in trouble!" he said.
"This is more important!" I said.
I raced up the stairs and home. Who can I find? Alpha! I ran to his office. I didn't knock.
"Alpha! Come quick!" I yelled.
He stood up. "What is it, Cale?"
"I found Papa!" I screamed.
