Chapter 35 - Defend

The group entered an area with multiple cave ledges. "That's gonna be a lot of jumping to do," Michelle said. CatNap looked at Michelle. "I HAVE A BETTER IDEA..." he said.

Michelle looked at CatNap as he lay on the ground. "YOU AND THE SMALLER TOYS CLIMB ON..." he continued. Michelle was surprised before looking at CatNap. "I get what your idea is, but... are you sure?" she asked.

CatNap looked happy. "IT WOULD BE A GREAT HONOR, ANGEL..." he said. Michelle stared at CatNap before nodding. "Well, as long as you're OK with it..." she said before turning her head to the other toys. "Climb on CatNap."

As the group approached CatNap, Michelle and Miss Delight helped Bunzo Bunny and the Mini Huggies climb on CatNap's back. DogDay picked PJ Pug-A-Pillar up. "You can hold onto me if you want," he said.

PJ Pug-A-Pillar happily panted before licking DogDay's face, which made him turn his head away. "Hey, stop that," he continued. Michelle giggled as she helped Miss Delight get on CatNap's back.

Soon after, Michelle got on CatNap's back before looking at him. "Ready to go when you are," she said. CatNap nodded as he stood on his legs. "HANG ON..." he said.

CatNap leaped from one ledge to another, which made the group on his back hold onto him; DogDay followed behind him. When the duo reached the top, they turned to the right and spotted a gap in the distance.

CatNap sprinted forward before jumping; after he landed on the other side, DogDay jumped to the other side. As the duo walked forward, they heard high-pitched screeches, which made them look up.

Michelle was worried. "Kissy..." she said, lowly, before looking down with closed eyes. "Please keep her safe, you two... and protect Poppy when you find her..." DogDay looked at Michelle, concerned. "Misha..." he said, lowly.

Michelle shook her head. "I'm fine..." she said before petting CatNap's head. "Let's keep going." CatNap nodded as he moved forward; DogDay stared at Michelle before walking behind them.

As the duo entered a partially destroyed hallway, Michelle looked around. "This place looks so cryptic..." she said.

As Michelle turned her head to the left, she saw a text reading 'To Prison' on the wall and a white arrow pointing forward, which mortified her. "A prison... inside a toy factory..." she said, lowly.

CatNap looked forward. "THE COMPANY HIRED A DIFFERENT COMPANY TO CREATE THIS PLACE..." he said, which made Michelle look at him. "THEY USED IT TO KEEP EXPERIMENTS LIKE ME AWAY FROM THE PUBLIC..."

Michelle frowned a bit and petted CatNap's head. "I'm sorry you had to go through that..." she said. CatNap closed his eyes and purred. "NO NEED TO APOLOGIZE, ANGEL..." he said. "YOU HAD NO IDEA..."

Michelle realized something and turned her head to DogDay. "This Safe Haven... I assume that it's inside this prison?" she asked.

DogDay nodded. "It used to serve as a defensible location for Playtime Co.'s Security located by the prison," he said. "However, after the Hour of Joy, Doey and Suzy were the ones to discover the place and turned it into Safe Haven."

DogDay crossed his arms. "If I remember correctly, Doey was usually the one trying to find lost toys while Suzy remained in Safe Haven," he continued.

Michelle sighed. "Yeah, that's a total Kevin move," she said, which made DogDay look at her. "Every time he rough-houses with Joseph or me, he'd always make sure that Katie doesn't see it." DogDay was shocked. "You rough-house with Kevin?" he asked.

Michelle chuckled a bit and rubbed the back of her neck. "We do on a few occasions, but I think he was less rough on me than Joseph," she said. "I always told him that I'm not as prissy and fragile as the other girls, and yet he still goes easy on me."

Bunzo Bunny looked at Michelle. "Maybe this Kevin guy has a crush on you, Big Sis," he said. Michelle blushed and turned her head to Bunzo Bunny. "What?!" she shouted.

Michelle quickly shook her head. "N-No, that can't be it," she said. "I-I mean... I was the one who found his sister, so he probably sees me as another sibling or like a family friend..." Bunzo Bunny grinned. "Your red cheeks say otherwise..." he said.

Michelle noogied Bunzo Bunny's head. "That's enough out of you," she said, which made him laugh. Miss Delight was amused. "How adorable..." she said while the Mini Huggies giggled.

CatNap looked amused while DogDay looked at the group with happy eyes. When DogDay turned his head to the left, he spotted a gap in the distance. "There's a gap up ahead," he said.

When CatNap was close to the gap, he lay on the ground, which made the others get off him. "Once you're on the other side, CatNap and I will clear the debris," DogDay continued.

Michelle nodded as she approached the gap; she lowered the GrabPack's arms before going through it. Once Michelle was on the other side, she spotted a large fence gate. "The coast is clear," she said.

After the smaller toys went through the gap, CatNap readied his claws before slashing at the stone, which broke it into smaller pieces. DogDay picked up part of the stone and tossed it to the side. After the area was cleared, the larger toys walked through the larger gap.

As the group went through the fence gate, Michelle looked around. "We can take a small break in here," she said before approaching Miss Delight.

Michelle unzipped her bag and grabbed a bag of cookies before looking at DogDay. "DogDay, catch," she said before tossing it.

DogDay quickly caught the bag of cookies. "Hand those out to the other toys; I'm gonna check the room on the side," Michelle said as she zipped her bag; he nodded. "Very well..." he said.

As Michelle approached the door, the smaller toys eagerly gathered around DogDay while PJ Pug-A-Pillar barked. "Alright, alright, one at a time," he continued as he opened the bag of cookies.

Michelle opened the door and looked around. "This area might hide something important in here..." she said, lowly. Soon after, Michelle spotted a TV with a purple VHS player under it. "There's a VHS tape in here somewhere," she said.

When Michelle turned her head to the right, she spotted a purple VHS tape in the office chair. Michelle approached the office chair and picked up the tape. "What do you have?" she asked herself before approaching the TV.

After Michelle put the tape in the player, she saw an instruction video for the orange hand, which made her hum a bit.

After the video finished, Michelle crossed her arms. "While I kinda figured out the obvious stuff, it's nice to have a little recap," she said before walking toward the door.

As Michelle opened the door, the smaller toys were enjoying the cookies. Miss Delight turned her head to Michelle. "Anything useful?" she asked. Michelle sighed a bit. "Only a tutorial video on the orange hand," she said.

DogDay approached Michelle. "Well, it's better than nothing..." he said before kneeling and holding the bag of cookies out. "Here; surely you're hungry by now."

Michelle shook her head. "I'm fine, DogDay; don't worry about me," she said before grabbing the bag of cookies and tying the bag on itself. "We can save these for another time." DogDay looked at Michelle, concerned as she opened her bag and placed the bag of cookies inside.

After Michelle zipped the bag, she twisted the knob, switching from the purple hand to the orange hand. "Now then..." she said before aiming at the rope. "Let's see where this door takes us." Michelle pulled the right trigger, shooting a flare at the rope and burning it.

As the doors opened, Michelle's face went pale. "What the fuck..." she said, lowly. Michelle saw multiple toy corpse piles scattered around the area. "What... is this place?" she asked.

CatNap stepped forward. "A GRAVEYARD FOR THE TOYS..." he said. "ONCE WE PASS THIS PLACE, THERE SHOULD BE A TRAIN THAT COULD TAKE US TO THE PRISON..." DogDay approached the duo. "And, in turn, will take us to Safe Haven," he said.

Michelle took a deep breath and exhaled before looking forward. "Then... let's go..." she said before walking forward, which made the other toys follow.

When Michelle turned to the right, she heard a toy laughing before they left, which made her jump a bit. "What was that?" she asked.

CatNap growled a bit. "NIGHTMARE CRITTERS..." he said, lowly. Michelle was surprised and turned her head to CatNap. "Nightmare Critters? I don't think I've heard of them before..." she said.

DogDay crossed his arms. "It's possible they weren't successful because of the damage to the company's reputation from the Smiling Critters..." he said. "Now they're just pawns that follow him..."

Michelle was confused. "Him who?" she asked; CatNap growled. "THE DOCTOR..." he said. Michelle looked down with a hum. "I see..." she said, lowly.

When Michelle turned her head to the left, she spotted a note on top of a barrel, which made her approach it. When Michelle was close, she picked the note up and read it. "What did you find?" DogDay asked.

Michelle turned to DogDay. "It's part of a journal to a girl named Riley..." she said as she looked at the note. "The poor child... it was her first day at Playcare, and she was scared..."

When Michelle looked forward, she noticed a note in the distance. "There's another one," she continued before sprinting toward it.

The toys quickly followed Michelle as she picked up the note. "This one tells us about her being 'chosen'..." she said, lowly, before clenching the note. "Oh, if she only knew what that meant..."

As the group walked forward, they saw a yellow toy arm come out of the corpse pile before collapsing.

Michelle looked around the area. "I don't trust this pathway..." she said. When Michelle stepped forward, a Nightmare Critter shaped like a bat screeched before jumping down.

As the Nightmare Critter faced Michelle, she shot a flare near the toy, which scared it and made it jump to a different corpse pile. "I'm guessing that was one of those Nightmare Critters," she said.

DogDay nodded. "If I recall, that certain one was called Rabie Baby," he said. Michelle sighed a bit. "We should keep moving," she said; the other toys nodded as they walked forward.

As the group traversed the area, they spotted a logo with a large red square, a medium blue square, and a small yellow square. "Is that... the prison's logo?" Michelle asked. DogDay nodded. "We should be getting closer to the entrance," he said.

As the group reached the fence gate, the large lights suddenly turned on, which made them cover their eyes, and the alarms went off. "What the hell, I can't see!" Michelle shouted.

As Michelle tried looking forward, she saw the front gate close, which made her grit her teeth. "Well, that's just great..." she said.

When DogDay turned his head to the left, he spotted feral Mini Huggies and a few Nightmare Critters charging toward them. "We've got enemies incoming!" he shouted.

Michelle turned to the left and aimed the orange hand. "Protect the ones that can't fight!" she shouted before pulling the right trigger. A flare landed near a feral blue Mini Huggy, which startled it and made it run away.

CatNap swatted the feral Mini Huggies away with his claws while DogDay kicked a few Nightmare Critters away. PJ Pug-A-Pillar was chasing a Nightmare Critter shaped like a poison dart frog, barking, which made it run away in panic.

A feral green Mini Huggy approached Miss Delight, protecting the Mini Huggies with a devious grin, which scared the smaller toys.

Unbeknownst to the feral Mini Huggy, Bunzo Bunny slammed his cymbals against his head, which disoriented it before it collapsed on the ground.

Soon after, the feral Mini Huggies and Nightmare Critters started running away. Some of the group tried to catch their breath. "That takes care of that..." Michelle said, lowly.

As Michelle looked around the area, she spotted a note near a truck, prompting her to approach it. Michelle picked the note up and read it; soon after, she covered her mouth. "This is when she was turned into a toy; how awful..." she said, lowly.

DogDay spotted a note on a pallet and approached it; when he was close, he picked it up. "I found another note from Riley..." he said. Michelle approached DogDay. "What's it about?" she asked.

DogDay looked at the note with somber eyes. "This talks about her time during the Hour of Joy... she's one of the few that didn't participate," he said. Michelle looked at the note with a frown. "Even after everything they did to her... the poor thing..." she said, lowly.

The group heard a light turn on, which made them look at the pile nearby. "That's where the feral Mini Huggies and Nightmare Critters came from," Miss Delight said.

Michelle stared at the corpse pile before placing her hands together. "Forgive me for what I'm about to do," she said.

After Michelle removed her hands, she walked toward the corpse pile. "We have no choice but to climb on the corpses to get to the top," she continued. The toys solemnly agreed before they climbed the corpses.
