Chapter 40 - Stealth

As Michelle walked the pathway, she looked around. "Alright... my only obstacle between here and Safe Haven is Yarnaby," she said. "I need to keep quiet; stealth is gonna be my friend in this."

As Michelle reached a gated area, she saw Yarnaby enter a large vent, which made her quickly cover her mouth. As the steps grew quieter, Michelle sighed in relief and uncovered her mouth. "I'm glad he didn't see me..." she whispered.

Michelle looked at the gate door and approached it; she tried opening it, but it was locked on the other side. Michelle groaned. "Well, that's just great," she said before laying her head against it and closing her eyes.

Michelle sighed. "I gotta find a way to bust this—" when she opened her eyes, she saw a pink arm stretch down, which made her eyes widen and back away. The pink hand grabbed the gate lock before pulling it, which unlocked it.

As the pink arm retracted back to the vent, Michelle stared at it with wide eyes. "Was that...?" she asked, lowly, before quickly shaking her head. "No, it couldn't be her... knowing Kevin for so long, he wouldn't let her out of his sight... would he?"

Michelle quickly opened the gate. "Right now, I should be focusing on escaping Yarnaby's sight," she continued before walking toward the yellow door. After Michelle entered, she walked around a pathway before finding another yellow door.

After Michelle opened the yellow door, she crouched. "So my feet will be quiet..." she whispered before walking through a gap and turning to the right.

Before Michelle got close to the center, she saw Yarnaby come out of the large vent, which made her freeze in place. Yarnaby roared in the air before walking forward, which made Michelle glance at him.

After Michelle crawled out of the gap, she heard a 'psst', which made her turn her head to it. Soon after, Michelle saw a pink hand with an inactive flare in its hand before placing it against a hot pipe.

Soon after, the flare caught on fire before the pink hand dropped it and retreated to the vent. Soon after, the flare started a fire in the left corner, which made Yarnaby approach it and rummage through the area.

Michelle looked up and saw a handle. Now's my chance, she thought before slowly walking forward. When Michelle was close, she spotted a note on her right and grabbed it before aiming at the handle with the blue hand and pulling the left trigger, launching it.

After the blue hand grabbed the handle, Yarnaby turned to Michelle as she quickly pulled herself up. Michelle quickly entered the vent before Yarnaby caught her.

Michelle turned her head to Yarnaby as he roared and tried grabbing her in the vent. "Time to move..." she said, lowly, before she started crawling. After Michelle entered a different room, she held the note out. "Let's see what you hold," she said.

As Michelle read the note, she was shocked. "It's from that Cole guy again... apparently his co-worker, Stanley, cared for these toys... he even tried to sneak sweets and toys to them," she continued. "However, he got attacked by Boxy Boo for doing a good deed..."

Michelle folded the note. "He might've had an idea about the toys once being human, but his buddy didn't want to believe it," she said. "Had I not seen what I saw... I wouldn't have believed Stanley either..."

Michelle looked at the ground and spotted a black VHS tape on the ground. As Michelle picked the tape up, she heard noises before seeing Yarnaby come out of the large vent.

Michelle crouched as Yarnaby walked forward; soon after, he turned around and walked back. Michelle examined Yarnaby as he continued the same process. I see... so I need to be out of his sight when he walks away... she thought before approaching the opening.

When Michelle was close to the opening, she saw Yarnaby, which made her hide behind a filing cabinet. When Yarnaby turned away and walked forward, Michelle quietly sprinted to the other side.

After Michelle went through a small gap between some tech, she heard a fence shaking. When Michelle was close to the other opening, she saw Yarnaby shaking the fence. I have a bad feeling about this... she thought.

When Michelle crouched and stepped forward a bit, Yarnaby broke the fence, which made her quickly cover her mouth before he entered another large vent.

Michelle sighed in relief as she crawled out and removed her hand from her mouth. "That was way too close for comfort..." she said, lowly.

Michelle turned her head to the right side and saw a TV with a black VHS player. "Now to play the VHS tape," she continued before approaching it.

After Michelle inserted the tape into the player, she looked at the screen as it booted up. "This recklessness has to stop," a posh British man said. "The Doctor has no regard for the safety of this facility or its staff."

Michelle tilted her head. "Going off by the head people... I'm guessing this is Eddie; I've never seen the man in my life," she said. "Or the children in Playcare. I've tried to set boundaries with him; he doesn't listen to me," Stella said.

"He doesn't listen to any of us. Not really. Not anymore. And he's behind schedule," Leith said. "Playtime may have turned a corner, financially, but that doesn't change the fact that 'Bigger Bodies Initiative' is still a money hole."

Michelle glared at the TV. "Oh you asshole... of course you care about money, you piece of shit," she said. "The guy's gotta go, Leith," Eddie said. "And how do you suggest we do that?" Leith asked. "This wouldn't be the first time we've made someone disappear," Eddie said.

Michelle felt uncomfortable. "We can't kill him, Eddie," Leith said. "Why not?" Eddie asked. Michelle heard Leith sigh. "Because like it or not, we need him," he said. "Eddie's right, though. Sawyer can't keep leading this project," Stella said.

Michelle heard Leith chuckle. "So we just ask him to step down? Take a demotion?" he asked. Michelle heard Stella sigh. "No, but..." she said, lowly.

"I'm not disagreeing. Huggy loose in the woods, that business with CatNap, the whole Stoll thing—" Eddie interrupted Leith, "And half a dozen other incidents,"

Michelle heard Leith sigh. "Right, and all of that pales in comparison to the Theater Incident," he said. Michelle heard Stella shudder. "I don't even want to talk about that..." she said, lowly.

Michelle heard Eddie sigh. "So... we can't kill the sonofabitch, but we need to knock him out of the equation. What do we do?" he asked. "There is... one thing I can think of..." Leith said before the video ended.

Michelle looked down. "The Theater Incident... if I remember correctly from the news, there were a lot of casualties during that event," she said. "I'm not sure how it was caused, but I have a pretty good guess the Doctor was part of it."

After Michelle walked away from the TV, she saw a vent on the left side, which made her approach it before crawling. As Michelle crawled through the vent, she heard banging and rubble shaking, which concerned her before she crawled forward.

When Michelle was out of the vent, she walked past a few shelves. Soon after, Michelle spotted a note on a shelf, which made her grab it.

Michelle read the note. "Another journal log from Cole," she said. "It seems like he's doing a bit of digging on his own after his conversation with Stanley at the right moment."

Michelle placed her hand on her chin. "It must've happened after the Doctor was turned into an experiment because he couldn't recognize his human name," she continued. "And from the looks of this note, he's starting to believe his co-worker."

Michelle folded the note and placed it on the shelf before walking forward. As Michelle traversed the pathway, she saw a mixture of blue, yellow, orange, and red dough holding shelves together.

Michelle stared at the colored dough. "This is... Doey Dough... I must be heading in the right direction," she said before approaching the gap.

As Michelle examined the area, she noticed a long pathway. "Oh, this ain't ominous as hell," she sarcastically said before sighing. "Let's get this over with." Michelle lowered the GrabPack arms before going through the gap.

When Michelle walked forward, she heard roaring, which made her groan. "Yep... I knew it," she said. When Michelle turned her head to the back, she saw Yarnaby's paws grab the top shelf before he pulled himself up.

Soon after, Yarnaby roared before landing on the ground. "And that's my cue!" Michelle shouted before sprinting away. Yarnaby started chasing Michelle as she jumped over a few boxes.

When Michelle looked forward, she saw the pink arm gesturing to the door before retracting into the vent. "Yeah, I figured as much; thanks!" she shouted. Michelle quickly opened the door before shutting it behind her.

Yarnaby slammed against the door, which made Michelle quickly back away. Soon after, Yarnaby started scratching at the door as Michelle tried calming herself down. "I take it back... that was way too close for comfort..." she said, lowly.

Michelle turned her head to the left and spotted the vent. "Time to get the hell out of this area," she said before crouching to it and starting to crawl.

As Michelle crawled, she could hear Yarnaby's song box and roaring before his steps started going quiet. Michelle sighed in relief. "I think I lost him... for now... let's keep it like that," she said before she continued crawling.
