Chapter 30 - Ambush

The duo stood before a door with a text reading 'Office' above it before entering. After Michelle opened the second door, she saw a room with multiple office desks. "No sign of CatNap..." she said, lowly.

DogDay nodded. "Let's keep it that way," he said before they entered. The duo traversed the room before standing before a door on the far right.

Michelle tried opening it, but it was locked. "Damn, we'll need a key," she said. DogDay turned his head to the left and froze a bit. "That room..." he said, lowly.

When Michelle turned her head to the left, she saw Stella's name on an office door. "Stella's office..." she said before approaching it. "That might hold something important."

Michelle placed her hand on the door handle before opening it. As the duo entered, they saw a TV with a pink VHS tape on top of a box. Michelle turned her head to a desk and spotted a pink VHS tape.

Michelle approached the desk and picked up the tape. "What do you hold..." she said, lowly, before approaching the VHS tape.

After Michelle inserted the tape into the player, the duo looked at the TV as they heard shuffling before a door opened. "Oh, Mr. and Mrs. Hartmann? Come on in! Please, have a seat!" Stella shouted.

The duo heard footsteps from the TV before it went silent. "How was your ride down?" Stella asked. "It was... nothing like we were expecting. Mr. Ludwig's speech was... well, it just confirms for us that you're the orphanage we want to go through," Mr. Hartmann said.

DogDay glared at the TV. "It's a truly magical place; I felt right at home from the second I entered," Stella said.

Michelle crossed her arms. "You open the door the first time, and you just know you're never going to leave... kind of like finding a home as a child and always thinking of it when you want to feel comforted," Stella continued.

The duo heard Stella clear her throat. "I understand you want to give Jeremy that home," she continued. "Yes, and we would like to adopt," Mrs. Hartmann said. The duo heard papers shuffling. "Amazing! You'll be perfect for... oh..." Stella said.

Michelle was concerned. "W-What?" Mrs. Hartmann asked. "Well, it appears there's... been some complications," Stella said. "Complications...? W-What kind of complications?" Mrs. Hartmann asked. "I-I don't know. Uhm... the form says 'Testing'..." Stella said.

"What does that mean... tell us, what does that mean?!" Mrs. Hartmann shouted. "Ms. Greyber, we deserve a better explanation than that, don't you think?!" Mr. Hartmann shouted.

"You're in charge of all this; how could you not know?!" Mrs. Hartmann shouted. "And why are we only finding out about this now?!" Mr. Hartmann shouted. "I-I don't... I'm sorry," Stella said before the video ended.

The duo stared at the TV. "I would've assumed that she had no idea about the experiments, but since she's the head of this place... something tells me she knew all along," Michelle said.

DogDay grabbed the TV with a shout, which surprised Michelle, before pulling the cords out of the plug and throwing it against the wall hard, which shattered it. Michelle looked at the wall, shocked, before looking at DogDay as he was seething in anger.

Michelle looked at DogDay's hand before holding it, which made him flinch and look at her. DogDay looked down and placed his other hand over his eyes. "I... I'm sorry..." he said, lowly. "I usually keep a cool head in those kinds of situations..."

Michelle shook her head. "It's fine..." she said, which made DogDay remove his hand and look at her. "I would've done the same thing, too..." DogDay stared at Michelle before looking at her with happy eyes. "Thank you for your empathy, Misha," he said.

Michelle smiled before looking around; when she looked up, she spotted something shining inside the vent. Michelle turned to the vent and pulled the left trigger, launching the blue hand and grabbing the handle.

Michelle pulled the vent grille open, which made a key fall out of the vent and drop to the ground. Michelle approached the key and picked it up. "You're the key we need," she said before walking toward the door. "C'mon, let's get out of here."

DogDay nodded before following behind Michelle; when the duo stood before the door, she inserted the key into the lock and twisted. After unlocking the door, Michelle opened it before they entered the hallway.

As the duo turned to the left, they saw a cutout of a unicorn Smiling Critter wearing a collar with a color wheel around its neck. "CraftyCorn..." DogDay said, lowly, before looking down. "Hopefully, the others in Safe Haven are doing alright..."

Michelle turned her head to DogDay. "Hey, no need to feel down," she said, which made him look at her. "When this is all over, we can head to Safe Haven next." DogDay was confused. "We?" he asked.

Michelle nodded. "Well, yeah, I still need to find Kevin and Katelynn in this place," she said. "Maybe going further down can help me." DogDay stared at Michelle before looking away. "That makes sense..." he said, lowly.

Michelle noticed DogDay was shaking, which made her face stoic. Their group is hiding something from me; it seems like I'll have to do Mommy's plan, but now is not the right time, she thought.

Michelle approached the ramp beside the CraftyCorn cutout. "Let's see where this ramp takes us," she said. DogDay looked at Michelle before nodding and following behind her.

At the end of the hallway, the duo looked up and saw a handle. "It looks like you'll be doing some wall jumping again," Michelle said. DogDay nodded before he kneeled. "Climb on," he said. Michelle nodded before getting on DogDay's shoulder and holding tight.

After DogDay stood up, he stepped back before sprinting forward. DogDay jumped from wall to wall before grabbing the handle. DogDay picked Michelle off his shoulder before placing her on the right side.

As Michelle crawled through the vent, she spotted Red Smoke coming out of the vent grille. Michelle grabbed her gas mask and put it on. "Now I can enter," she said in a muffled voice before landing on the vent grille.

Soon after, Michelle pushed the vent grille open before landing on a table. After Michelle got on the ground, DogDay landed on the table.

Michelle looked through the hole and spotted the door with a battery inside the socket, which made her approach it. "Time to bring you back in this room," she said in a muffled voice before pulling the left trigger.

The blue hand grabbed the battery before pulling it out of the socket. After the blue hand retracted, Michelle approached the battery socket in the room and placed it inside, which lit up something behind a metal door.

Michelle approached the metal door and opened it, which revealed a green power outlet. "There you are," she said in a muffled voice before twisting the knob.

The purple hand switched to the green hand. "Since there are three unlit cables, the receivers are probably in the office rooms behind metal doors like this one," Michelle continued in a muffled voice. "Let's get them open."

DogDay nodded as the duo entered different rooms. Michelle approached the metal door and opened it, which revealed a receiver. DogDay approached the metal door in the second office and opened it. Michelle entered the third office and opened a different metal door.

After Michelle exited the office, she aimed the green hand at the outlet. "Now, to do this right," she said in a muffled voice before pulling the right trigger.

The green hand touched the outlet, which powered it up; after Michelle retracted the green hand, she aimed at the farthest receiver and pulled the right trigger again.

The green hand touched the receiver, which powered it up. After Michelle repeated the process for the other two, the door opened. "Let's move!" Michelle shouted in a muffled voice. DogDay nodded as the duo sprinted through the door before it closed.

Michelle took the gas mask off with a sigh before hanging it on one of the hooks. "Now, let's see what we're working with," she said before they walked forward.

Soon after, the duo saw a large room with a large raised lift, an activated turret on an input unit with three poles in different spots, and a few deactivated bounce pads next to each other.

Michelle approached the turret. "Well, first things first, let's turn this turret off," she said before pulling the lever. The turret hand retracted, which made the lift drop.

Michelle looked at the closest pole before aiming and pulling the left trigger. The blue hand grabbed one of the pole's handles before Michelle aimed it at the other pole. Michelle retracted the blue hand. "Let's try this for size," she said before pulling the lever on the turret.

The turret hand spun around the poles before it made a jingle. Soon after, the bounce pads activated, which made Michelle approach them. "This'll get me to the top," she said before twisting the knob.

The green hand switched to the purple hand before Michelle got on the bounce pad. Michelle aimed at the bounce pad before pulling the right trigger, launching herself to the other bounce pad.

When Michelle reached the top, she spotted a lever next to a fenced gate before aiming and pulling the left trigger. The blue hand grabbed the lever before pulling it, which opened the gate. After Michelle retracted the blue hand, she spotted a battery inside a case.

Michelle pulled the right trigger, launching the purple hand and grabbing the case. "Now to follow good old Newton's law on gravity," she said before walking toward the ledge. Soon after, Michelle jumped and landed on the ground, which made the case fall with her.

Soon after, Michelle retracted the purple hand as the case hit the ground, which shattered the glass and freed the battery. Michelle pulled the left trigger, launching the blue hand and grabbing the battery.

After the blue hand retracted, Michelle approached the battery socket. "You're probably hiding my second battery," she said. After Michelle placed the battery in the socket, the shutter opened, which revealed another battery in a case.

Michelle pulled both triggers, launching both hands and grabbing the case before she pulled it out. "Now to shatter you out of your case," she said before retracting both hands. DogDay picked the case up, which surprised Michelle. "Allow me," he said before tossing it in the air.

When DogDay stepped away, the case shattered, which freed the battery. "That's one way, I suppose," Michelle said before aiming at the battery socket and pulling the left trigger.

The blue hand grabbed the battery before retracting back, which made the shutter close. "We'll need both batteries at the top," Michelle continued. DogDay nodded as he grabbed the other battery before the duo approached the platform.

After Michelle placed the battery on the platform, she approached the turret. "Now we need this thing to raise the lift," she said before pulling the lever. The turret's hand retracted back, which deactivated the bounce pads.

Michelle looked at the closest pole and pulled the right trigger. The purple hand grabbed one of the pole's handles before aiming it at the input unit. After Michelle got on the lift, she aimed the purple hand. "Now we go up," she said before pulling the right trigger.

The purple hand grabbed the lever before pulling it, launching the turret's hand to the pole before hitting the input unit. The platform gate closed before it rose to the top. Soon after, the duo grabbed a battery before approaching the battery sockets.

After the batteries were placed in the socket, Michelle approached the edge. "Now to deactivate you," she said before pulling the right trigger. The purple hand grabbed the lever before pulling it, which deactivated the hand turret.

After the purple hand retracted, Michelle aimed the blue hand. "And now you need to face that other pole," she said before pulling the left trigger. The blue hand grabbed one of the pole's handles before Michelle aimed it at the pole.

After the blue hand retracted, Michelle looked at the tallest pole. "And finally, you need to hit that input unit," she said before aiming and pulling the right trigger. The purple hand grabbed the tallest pole's handle before Michelle aimed it at the input unit.

After Michelle retracted the purple hand, she aimed the blue hand at the turret's lever. "Now to see the sparks fly," she said before pulling the left trigger.

The blue hand grabbed the lever before pulling it, making the turret's hand spin around the poles before touching the input unit, which opened the shutter.

As the duo entered the small room, the generator on the left started working. "Hopefully, that did the trick," Michelle said before looking at the vent with clear smoke coming out of it.

Michelle grabbed her gas mask off her hook. "Something tells me I'm gonna need this again," she continued before climbing the top of the filing cabinets. When Michelle was close to the vent, she started crawling through it, which made DogDay follow behind her.

Soon after, Michelle saw Red Smoke in the distance, which made her put on the gas mask. "It's a good thing I took it off the hook before going any further," she said in a muffled voice before she continued crawling.

When Michelle looked down, she saw a long drop before jumping down. When Michelle reached the bottom of the vent, she continued crawling. After DogDay landed on the bottom of the vent, Michelle spotted a vent grille before opening it.

Michelle landed on the ground and looked around. "There's so much smoke in here..." she said in a muffled voice. Soon after, Michelle spotted a battery socket beside her. "I'm gonna need a battery for that," she said before walking forward.

DogDay landed on the ground and followed Michelle as she opened the door on the far left. As the duo entered the room, Michelle spotted a battery. "Sweet! That's just what we needed," she said in a muffled voice before pulling the left trigger.

The blue hand grabbed the battery before retracting. Michelle approached the door. "Now we have to put this thing in the—" when she turned to the left, CatNap pounced toward her, which made her eyes widen.

DogDay looked at Michelle with widened eyes. "Misha!" he shouted. CatNap pushed Michelle back in the room, which knocked the gas mask off her face and made her breathe in the Red Smoke. When DogDay caught Michelle, she was unconscious. "Oh no, Misha!" he shouted.

CatNap slammed the door behind the duo, which made a filing cabinet cover the door. DogDay looked at Michelle, concerned. "You have to wake up, please!" he shouted before shaking her. "Wake up, Misha!"

In a dark red area, Michelle lay on the ground. Michelle groaned a bit before sitting up and placing her hand against her head. "What... happened?" she asked herself. When Michelle opened her eyes, she saw the sidewalk leading to the Playtime Co. factory.

Michelle was shocked and stood up. "How am I back out here? Unless..." she said, lowly. Soon after, the area around Michelle started shifting, which shocked her. "This isn't a place you come back from," a female voice said.

Michelle looked around. "That voice... it sounds like Poppy's voice..." she said, lowly. Soon after, Michelle stood in the lobby. "Do you have any idea what you're doing?" Poppy asked. The area around Michelle shifted to a hallway in Home Sweet Home.

As Michelle looked around, she saw shadows of kids running in the hallway, laughing. "Do you know what's happened here?" Poppy asked. As Michelle reached for one of the shadow children, the area started shifting, which surprised her.

Soon after, Michelle stood in a classroom; she looked forward and saw a shadow of Miss Delight teaching the shadow children. "Do you know who we once were?" Poppy asked. As Michelle stepped back, the area started shifting.

Soon after, Michelle stood on a pathway in the Playhouse as the shadow children played. "Do you see why we have to end this?" Poppy asked. The area around Michelle shifted before she was in a room in the Counselor's Office. "Do you even know what's real?" Poppy asked.

Michelle was terrified as the area around her shifted before she saw Huggy Wuggy standing still with his hand raised and his mouth open. "No... you don't," Poppy said before the area went black.

Michelle heard alarms, which shocked her; soon after, she stood before the room where Huggy Wuggy used to stand.

When Michelle looked up, her eyes widened when she saw red glowing eyes staring at her before a mechanical arm with silver pins for fingers reached for her. "Misha...! Misha...!" a male voice shouted. "Misha!"

Michelle gasped before hyperventilating a bit. "A dream... that's all it was... just a dream..." she said, lowly, as she tried calming herself. When Michelle turned her head to the right, she saw DogDay blowing a white gas at her. "Is that...?" she asked.

DogDay nodded. "While the Red Smoke puts people to sleep, my White Smoke wakes them up," he said before he stopped blowing his White Smoke. "You should be OK now..." Michelle looked down until the phone rang, which surprised her.

Michelle grabbed the phone and held it out. "Ollie?" she asked. "LEAVE PLAYCARE, OR I'M COMING FOR YOU..." CatNap said before the call ended. The duo stared at the phone. "CatNap..." DogDay said, lowly.

Michelle stared at the phone before hanging it on one of the hooks. "Is there any way to convince him to join us?" she asked. DogDay looked at Michelle before looking away with somber eyes. "I wish there were... but I don't see a possible way," he said.

Michelle stood up and stretched a bit. "Well then... I think it's time we leave this place and come up with a plan to deal with CatNap," she said.

DogDay nodded as Michelle looked at the battery on the ground before pulling the right trigger, launching the purple hand, and grabbing the battery before retracting.

After the duo left the room, Michelle approached the battery socket before putting the battery inside it, which opened the door.

The duo started walking toward the front. All that's left between here and my goal is CatNap himself... Michelle thought before clenching her fists. And even though he works for the Prototype... I'm going to save him... even if it costs me my life...
