Chapter 2 - Izumi Sakai

Before transmigrating, Takeshita Masato was a big fan of novels and was relatively familiar with some of the landmark events of the Japanese bubble economy era.

First Building Co., Ltd. was a typical example.

In 1986, this company acquired the Tiffany Building at a record-breaking price. This not only shocked the American business community but also caused a huge sensation in Japan.

However, the reasons for the shock were completely different.

The American business community thought the Japanese company was foolish for spending so much money to buy an office building that was leased out for a long term.

One should know that famous buildings in New York, USA, were often leased out for over a hundred years, and the buyer would only gain the right to use the building after a century.

More importantly, the rental yield was very low. For companies that needed capital flow for operations, it was not a good project at all.

Japanese companies also thought they were foolish for not discovering such an obvious business opportunity.

High price with no right of use was not an issue at all.

The important thing was that the company buying an iconic American building would greatly boost the confidence and pride of its own people, and it was also equivalent to running a large-scale advertisement worldwide.

Compared to the surge in the company's stock price, the money spent on buying the building was nothing.

One could say that both sides felt they had won big.

From then on, Japanese companies began massive overseas buying sprees.

Ancient castles and manors in Western Europe, skyscrapers and villas in the United States, farmlands and ranches in Australia were all targets for Japanese companies.

Whether it created value was not important; driving up stock prices was the key.

As for ordinary Japanese people, they were also full of nouveau riche airs, constantly splashing money on luxury goods and art, with the entire nation charging towards the bubble.

First Building Co., Ltd. was outwardly extravagant, and naturally, it wouldn't be stingy with recruitment. After all, even just for self-packaging, the welcome gift had to appear very generous.

Early the next morning, Takeshita Masato once again tidied himself up carefully, hoping to leave a good impression on the interviewer, before heading to the interview venue in a suit and tie.

It was still the familiar lines, still the familiar formula.

Relying on his confident and heartfelt speech, he once again gained the interviewer's approval.

"It feels like it's a little thicker. Could there be an unexpected gain?"

Takeshita Masato felt the thickness of the brown envelope and secretly guessed.

Just then, two girls who seemed to know each other also walked out of the First Building Co., Ltd. entrance and began discussing today's interview in low voices.

"Sachiko, how was your interview just now?"

"I think I was just average. How about you, Eri?"

The girl named Sachiko first shook her head, then looked at her companion.

"Me? Absolutely no problem."

The cute girl with a round face named Eri was full of confidence, then energetically patted her friend's shoulder.

"Don't worry, you're so pretty, your interview will definitely be successful. Anyway, when big companies recruit us girls, it's just for some front-of-house work."

Japan was a very traditional patriarchal society, even more so in the 80s.

Most women would choose to quit their jobs and get married after working for a few years.

Therefore, when most Japanese companies recruited female employees, they didn't pay much attention to academic qualifications; as long as they were pretty and good-looking, that was enough.

Since it was basic work like serving tea and water or organizing documents, which even high school students could do, they naturally wanted to find someone pleasant to look at.

"It's her."

Takeshita Masato looked in surprise at the girl named Sachiko not far away, who had a slender figure, flowing hair, and pure and beautiful eyes, feeling a sense of happiness as if his luck was full today.

The girl's full name should be Sachiko Kamachi, and after entering the music industry, she adopted the stage name Izumi Sakai.

That's right, this beautiful girl in front of him was the future graceful lead caster of the band ZARD, the famous Japanese beautiful songstress Izumi Sakai.

Seeing his favorite songstress, Takeshita Masato naturally wouldn't let the opportunity pass.

He casually found an excuse and interjected with a smile: "Um, excuse me, sorry to bother you. Are you also from Hadano City?"

The energetic girl Eri tilted her head slightly, looking at the young man who suddenly walked towards her, and couldn't help but sigh inwardly: "He's so handsome! I wonder if I can get his contact information."

However, the girl didn't show it in her expression and still maintained her cheerful and energetic appearance.

"Hello to you too, you're not bothering us. Are you also here for an interview? Yes, I'm from Hadano. Could it be you are too?"

"Yes, I'm also here for an interview. It's great to meet a fellow townsman here!"

Takeshita Masato's inner monologue was also exploding.

He suppressed the urge to burst out, pretending to be calm as he looked at Sister Izumi, who was standing there gracefully and charmingly like a weeping willow by the lake: "Are you also from Hadano?"

"Me?" Izumi Sakai was a little shy, she slightly turned her head away in embarrassment and said softly: "I'm not from Hadano, I live in the neighboring Hiratsuka. But I attended elementary and junior high school in Hadano, so that's probably why I have a Hadano accent."

Hadano City and Hiratsuka City are small cities located next to each other in Kanagawa Prefecture. They have relatively small populations and average economies, far less developed than Yokohama or Kawasaki.

It's not easy to hear a familiar hometown accent in a big city, and Sister Izumi was also a little happy, so she unknowingly revealed all her information.

"I see, but there's no difference, we're all considered fellow townsmen when we're away from home."

"That's right, it is, hehe."

The girl named Eri nodded in agreement, then naturally held her best friend's fair and smooth little hand, making Takeshita Masato incredibly envious.

"Mm!"

Izumi Sakai was still a bit shy in front of Takeshita Masato, a stranger, but she also agreed with their points of view, so she didn't refute.

"Oh, we haven't introduced ourselves yet. My name is Takeshita Masato, nice to meet you for the first time. Please take care of me from now on!"

"I'm Tanaka Eri, Takeshita-san, nice to meet you!"

"I'm Sachiko Kamachi, nice to meet you!"

After greeting each other, their relationship became slightly closer. Then, under Takeshita Masato's intentional guidance, they began talking about various experiences from the interview.

He had an advantage in this area and could better showcase himself.

"Standing here and talking makes my mouth a bit dry. Shall we go sit at the cafe over there?"

"Okay, I'm a bit thirsty."

Tanaka Eri energetically accepted the young man's invitation, then without giving her best friend a chance to object, she directly pulled her towards the cafe.

"Could it be that I've been found out?"

Looking at the girl's decisive action, Takeshita Masato, who was following closely behind the two, had a guess in his heart.

"But, who cares. Looking at Tanaka-san's attitude, she seems to be quite supportive of my actions."

When an opportunity arises, one must decisively go for it. Only then can one live up to the reputation of a transmigrator and reborn person.
