Chapter 10 - Chapter 8: Stirring Shadows

Several weeks passed since Revan and Naruto settled into life at the Jedi Temple. Revan, though still a figure of legend, was gradually finding his place, albeit cautiously, among Jedi who viewed him with equal parts curiosity and reverence. Despite his unfamiliarity with this era, his teachings, insights, and skills quickly gained respect. Naruto, meanwhile, was thriving in his chaotic way.

The Temple's halls were still recovering from Naruto's latest prank: an elaborate illusion that made every door open into a room filled with illusory clones of Revan giving contradictory lectures on Jedi ethics. It took a full day for the archives team to realize it was all chakra-generated. Master Plo Koon claimed it gave him a headache. Master Windu blamed it on Revan. Revan blamed it on Naruto. Naruto blamed it on "Force inspiration."

In response, the Council decided on a unique form of punishment for Naruto. He was tasked with scrubbing the Jedi Temple's hangar bay floors by hand. The twist? Every single Jedi ship had to be lifted and hovered manually with the Force while Naruto cleaned underneath. It was meant to be a lesson in patience and control. Naruto, however, saw it as a challenge. He turned it into a game of pretending each ship was a sleeping rancor that he had to sneak under without waking. It made the droids nervous.

Worse still, Master Windu ordered that Revan supervise him during the entire cleaning process. Revan grumbled the whole time, muttering about how he didn't survive wars and ancient Sith Lords just to babysit a mop-wielding menace.

It became a running joke among the younger Padawans that one could measure Naruto's mood by how elaborate his pranks were. Even serious Jedi found themselves chuckling at the boy's antics—somewhat to Revan's dismay, as he was often roped into damage control.

Revan spent most of his days between training Naruto and consulting with the Council. Yoda had become both mentor and sparring partner. The two frequently debated topics of attachment, destiny, and the Force's evolving will in the changing galaxy. Their discussions were intense but respectful. Revan never tried to overthrow the Council's values, but his perspective nudged Yoda to question old assumptions.

"Let Jedi love, if they can master fear," Revan said one evening in a quiet garden alcove.

Yoda tapped his cane thoughtfully. "Fear leads to suffering. But fear denied… more dangerous, that is."

They found themselves meeting in the middle. Eventually, with quiet guidance from both Revan and Yoda, the Jedi Council began exploring new philosophies on attachments—carefully, and only for Knights and Masters. Jedi romantics were no longer hunted for their feelings, so long as discipline and duty remained uncompromised. This laid the groundwork for a monumental cultural shift—one that wouldn't be fully realized until much later.

During this time, Revan's path began slowly intertwining with Aayla Secura's. The young Padawan, assigned to the temple archives under Master Tholme, often sparred with Revan for advanced form practice. Aayla was strong-willed, bright, and inquisitive. She wasn't intimidated by his legend, which amused him.

One evening after a training session, Aayla and Revan sat watching the stars beyond the Temple balcony.

"You're different," she said.

"You have no idea," Revan answered dryly.

Aayla smirked. "I heard Naruto replaced all your datapads with ones that play Ewok dance music whenever you open them."

Revan groaned. "You heard correctly."

A pause.

"I think it's good he has you. You ground him," Aayla added.

"No," Revan said quietly, "he grounds me."

Their friendship bloomed in moments like this—respectful, genuine, and refreshingly slow. If there was a future there, neither of them forced it.

At the same time, another connection began forming—this one quieter but just as profound. Shaak Ti, a respected Jedi Master with a calm and wise presence, found herself intrigued by Revan's philosophies. Their paths crossed frequently in Council meetings, sparring sessions, and meditation halls. Where Aayla challenged Revan with fire, Shaak Ti balanced him with water. Her words were few, but her silences spoke volumes. Like Aayla, their relationship began in mutual respect and curiosity, destined to evolve over time.

As the weeks turned into months, Revan's sense of displacement faded—but not completely. He still visited the ruins of the Dantooine Enclave via hologram and satellite images, hoping to feel some trace of home. There was nothing left. It had been ruined for thousands of years.

In one rare moment of vulnerability, he admitted this to Yoda.

"No ghosts to speak to," Revan said. "Not even echoes. Just silence."

Yoda placed a hand on his shoulder. "Ghosts, you do not need. You have now. You have Naruto."

Naruto, of course, had found new ways to make himself unforgettable. Most recently, he slipped into a Temple-wide communication briefing and replaced all the security footage with a looping animation of Revan and Yoda dancing in bathrobes. It lasted only six minutes before being taken down, but rumors suggested Mace Windu nearly broke a window laughing.

For that, Naruto's new punishment was creative. He had to sit through an entire series of holobooks on Jedi philosophy and give a report on each, written, formal, and without pictures. His response: "This is cruel and unusual punishment!" He tried bribing a droid to write them for him. The droid politely declined.

To keep him focused, Revan added a rule: for every prank, Naruto owed a sparring match and a five-paragraph essay explaining what lesson the prank could hypothetically teach a Jedi.

And somehow, despite all of this—or maybe because of it—Naruto was growing. His meditation improved, his control with the lightsaber became refined, and his connection to the Force deepened. Revan could feel the boy's chakra and Force energy beginning to synchronize, something that impressed even Yoda.

Naruto remained the heart of Revan's world—a bright, sometimes exasperating light in the lingering shadows of his past. And with each new day, Revan felt more certain: whatever the Force had in store, he and Naruto would face it together.
