Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

Chapter 9

[Rosie POV]

Five years with my children felt like twenty years, I was worn out, but for their sake, I remained strong.

With the compelling deal I had with Larry, any moment, I'd go bankrupt. However, I refused Harry's offer to aid me with money.

He's done more than enough for me, and I didn't want to be a burden on his neck; the care he has provided for my kids was more than enough.

Regarding the kids, their acts, features, and behavior were like his, the man from the nightstand.

It was so hard to deny; their eyes, their hair, and everything reminded me of his.

The thought of it makes me sick, and each day, fear keeps engulfing me as though someday, I'd be far away from them.

I just didn't want them to associate him or his influence; such men were vile but would pretend to be the nation's charm.

It's a beautiful morning and I've got to head to the confectionery shop. It was another hectic day; fortunately, I had a salesman who reduced the stress for me.

Just as with the daily routines, I had my little wolves ready for school. Goodness, these kids just don't like school because they believe it's a cage for birds.

I've been called countless times for complaints and I've changed different schools.

However, my kids can't stand someone being oppressed by their peers. They seemed like bullies, but I trusted my kids; they were defending the weak.

They step in and fight. With this behavior, I think I'd end up being home-schooled. The world is never fair and things are bound to happen.

Watching the gruesome look on their faces, I knew it was another complaint. I was dressing them up for school.

Colton was adjacent to me, stomping his feet, and I was busy tidying Chris's shoelaces.

"Mom, I had a nightmare" Chris began, running his fingers through his hair. I just combed that hair and he was making mincemeat of it with his fingers.

My eyes were sore, from the stress of last night. I needed to take them to the bus stop and watch their school bus pick them up.

I didn't want to listen to the kid's words; his nightmares always come true, and they make me wintry.

"Can I say it?"

"No," I quickly refute not wanting to disturb my ears.

"We lost you, Mom, in his nightmare." Colton cut to the chase, and I lazily exhaled.

Colton was blunt and savage; he just didn't mind if you were hurt by his words, as long as he had voiced it.

He's the fearless one and keeps influencing my innocent Chris.

Chris had tears brewing in his eyes as he was scared. I placed my palms on his shoulders and smiled broadly.

"Hey, mom's gonna be here with you until the end" I encouraged as he sniffs.

"Only weaklings cry, Chris. Is this what I've been teaching you?" Colton sounded running closer to us and I scoffed.

Most times, he acts mature for his age. I wonder if he has some pain concealed in his heart.

I scolded Colton to stop that because crying doesn't mean you're weak, it's a means to let go of some emotions.

"Come here," I muttered in a sultry tone, and he drew closer to us.

I embraced my kids warmly and kissed them on their cheeks. They'd make a great hero and I'd watch over them.

"She can't die; mom's immortal," Colton added, rubbing his fingers through Chris's hair. Argh! Do I have to groom his hair again? No, he'd go to school that way.

I'm late as it is for my business, it's the day I've got to pay Larry.

Hastily, I held their wrists side by side, took the necessary items they needed for school, and dropped them at the bus stop.

The weather was friendly together as the mild breeze blew on my skin while we waited patiently for the school bus.

Once I saw their school bus take them in, I smiled sheepishly at them. Colton blew me an invisible kiss and yelled I should take care of myself.

"If anyone wants to harm you, Mom, just scream my name, and I'll appear...." He yelps as the driver chuckles.

He was a loud one, bothering the peace of other pupils on the bus with him. Chris had to drag him from the window to sit down.

Colton made faces for me to laugh as the driver ignited the engine to begin the ride.

"Everyone wave to my supermom!" Chris yelled, and I found the children rising up to their feet and waving to me cheerfully.

I was so emotional as tears brewed up in my eyes. They were my joy, and having to see happy kids waving at me makes my heart melt.

Chris was the heart of everyone and Colton was the strength. I love my kids and I never regretted having them.

"Bye, Mom," Colton concluded, and I waved to them until they were out of sight.

They made my day, I was depressed initially today as I haven't made an proceed from previous sales.

My mind was occupied with thoughts on how I'd pay Larry, but then, they gave me hope, and that's just all I needed.

Swiftly, I rushed to the crosswalk close by, waiting for the traffic light to favor the pedestrian, and when it did, I found myself walking on it.

Then it seems as though a BMW driving lost its way and didn't see the traffic light. I tried to move aside but then it felt as though a magnetic force got me stuck.

My heart skips as cold flushes down my spine and then, I found myself summersaulting to the ground.

I was stiffened where I lay; my past life flashed past me. I couldn't move, and the earthly smell hit my nose.

Sweat beads on my forehead, and the smell of blood made me nauseous; I scampered for air and could hear footsteps approaching me...but then, my heart stopped beating, and I shut my eyes.

If I had known it might be my last, I should have stayed home; I should have cuddled my kids more firmly.
