Chapter 54 - Chapter 50: Choices!

(Attendance please…)

….

Rhodey left, his departure leaving a heavy, suffocating silence in the conference room. The only ones left were the Avengers and Gojo, a fractured family forced to confront its own internal crisis.

Gojo sighed, a dramatic, almost theatrical sound, and a single, bored tear formed at the corner of his eye, which he lazily wiped away.

Sam, who had been simmering with frustration, finally snapped. "Excuse me," he said, his voice sharp. "Is this whole thing boring you? Or is it the fact that we're about to become dogs with government-issued collars in a few days that's so amusing to you that you're just sighing over there like there isn't a single problem here at all?"

Gojo sighed again, even more dramatically this time, just to show Sam. "Yeah," he said with a smile, "it's boring. But nonetheless, it was enjoyable. The government is like a cockroach, you know? You just can't crush it. They'll always come up with something so ridiculous that you'll just sit there and think, 'Where the hell did they get that idea? A sitcom from TV?' And I say, yeah, probably."

Sam, clearly not understanding, pressed on. "And?! Your point?!"

Gojo just shrugged. "My point being, it was enjoyable to watch, but I'm still bored."

"The fuck?" Sam muttered, looking at Steve. "Is he serious?"

"Sam… calm down," Steve said, his voice a quiet command.

Gojo, ignoring the tension, turned to Pietro. "Yo, speedy boi," he said, "can you get me a soda? I'm getting thirsty."

Pietro just stared at him, then turned his gaze to Captain America, as if waiting for permission or an order.

"Satoru, this isn't the time for joking around," Steve said, his tone weary.

Gojo feigned surprise. "Was asking for a soda considered a joke in your time, old man?"

"It's clear that we can't agree to this at all," Sam interjected, his focus returning to the Accords. "It's obvious what they want from us. First, making Rhodey come here to offer it. Second, playing the relationship card. It's clear enough that even if we don't agree now, they'll just use something else later to make us agree."

"Hmm, I think you have some experience in that, don't you, bird boy?" Gojo commented idly. He then turned back to Pietro. "Yo, speedy boi, I thought I told you to get me my soda. Or is there a protocol for that now, too?"

"I don't think I have to listen to you," Pietro said, his voice tight with a lingering resentment.

"It's been a year, man," Gojo said with a sigh. "You're still mad about me breaking your leg? Seriously? How else was I supposed to stop you from running the Hulk into a city?"

"Sam is right!" Steve said, cutting through their side conversation. "We can't sign this."

Tony, who had been sitting silently, finally stood up, his patience gone. "I just can't believe this," he said, looking at Steve. "Captain, can't you see why this is even happening in the first place?!"

"I know," Steve replied, his voice firm. "I for sure know. But I think you forget that… things happen on the job. People get hurt. But that doesn't mean you quit, or you stop doing what's right."

"That's just another way of saying 'I'll do what I have to do, even if there are sacrifices,'" Bruce Banner said quietly from his seat.

"We stopped a biological weapon from being released," Steve argued. "Yes, I know people died in Lagos, and I'm not disregarding that. But if we hadn't been there, they, and many, many more people, would have died."

"Do you know who came to meet me yesterday?" Tony asked, his voice low and pained.

No one said anything. The silence stretched.

"Who?" Gojo finally asked, breaking the tension.

"The mother of one of the kids who died in Sokovia," Tony said, his voice cracking slightly. "One of the kids who died while we were up there, 'playing hero.' She came to me, and she asked me… when did the world change so much that the people who were responsible for her son's death are hailed as heroes, and no one is doing anything about it?"

"Tony, we all know what happened there," Steve said, his voice softer now. "But when someone dies on your watch, while you're doing the right thing… you just don't give up."

Tony looked at him, surprised. "Who said anything about giving up? I haven't given up."

"You did when you decided to sign this," Steve countered. "And so are we, if we don't take responsibility for our own actions. Signing these Accords, it's just another way of saying we were wrong, and that we're giving up that responsibility. And I won't do that. I will take the blame for what the team has done, for the consequences of our actions. I won't sign something that just shifts the blame to someone else."

"That's just… I don't know, Captain. Arrogance," Bruce said quietly.

"It's not arrogance, Doctor Banner," Steve retorted, his voice rising with conviction. "When I woke up from the ice, I trusted S.H.I.E.L.D. I trusted that they were doing the right thing, and I fought by their side without questioning anything. Until you, Tony, you said that S.H.I.E.L.D. was hiding something. You showed me the truth. And when we tried to fix that, we found out that S.H.I.E.L.D. was being run by HYDRA. That entire organization was run by people, people with agendas. What's the guarantee that it's not happening all over again with this UN panel?"

"I'm that guarantee," Tony said, his voice filled with a desperate certainty.

Steve shook his head. "I'm sorry, Tony," he said, his voice filled with a deep regret. "But I just… I can't."

"You're not understanding, Steve!" Tony shot back. "You don't have a choice in this, not really! If you want to continue doing what we're doing, you have to sign. And if we don't, it'll just be done for us, by someone else, in a much less friendly way, later on."

Wanda, who had been silent this whole time, finally spoke, her voice a low, fearful whisper. "You're saying… if we don't sign it, they will come for us? For me, and for my brother?"

"Don't worry, Wanda," Steve said, his voice full of a protective reassurance. "No one will come for you. We'll protect you."

Tony sighed, a sound of utter defeat. It was like they just weren't ready to listen, let alone give it a try.

Natasha, after a long, thoughtful silence, finally spoke, her voice measured. "I… I think Tony is right," she said. Everyone turned to look at her. "We can't just continue doing the same thing, making the same mistakes, over and over again. We've made some very public, very costly mistakes. Just for one second, think about it from their perspective. From the eyes of normal people. For some of them, we are now what we fought in New York years ago: an unchecked, terrifying power from the sky."

Tony looked genuinely surprised. "Hmm… Jarvis," he said, "I don't think I heard that right, but did Natasha just… agree with me?"

"You heard it correctly, sir," Jarvis replied from Tony's phone. "Miss Romanoff has indeed agreed with your position."

"Well, this is a miracle," Tony said, a hint of his old humor returning. "With your history of distrusting authority, I thought you'd be the last person to agree with me."

"Don't make me take it back, Tony," Natasha warned, a small smile playing on her lips.

Gojo, who had been listening to all of this with a sort of detached amusement, finally spoke again. "Well, for what it's worth," he said, "I think I'm…

….

A/N: So, this is a very important decision. To if gojo would join or not. And i know what most of you are thinking… so what i have to say is that you think and then comment below down… i'm saying it again… think carefully.

Bcz if he said yes, he would join them which he know wont be for long as this whole thing would get shredded soon. By saying yes he can get involved in the plot more easily and naturally.

And if he said no, which most of you want do remember that he possibly wont involved in most of the thing behind the scenes and fights that are to come… unless you want some force thing type plot like ch 18-19 where i had to rewrite it whole where most of you didn't like it. So if he said no, and get into fights regarding the covil war plot it will feel like it is forced.

So vote now:

Q: Should gojo say yes and than enjoy the whole thing gets shredded to nothing in a front row seat? Or No.
