"Oh, come on, Avery! There's nothing like that!" Daniala's voice came out sharper than intended, but she was smiling all the same, relieved that Avery couldn't see her face right now. Her cheeks were practically burning.
She turned in her chair, hugging her pillow that she grabbed from her bed like it could shield her from Avery's teasing tone that oozed through the phone speaker.
"Besides," she added quickly, "we didn't even talk! He did his performance, I did mine, and then… we didn't interact."
Avery's dramatic sigh filled the line."Oh, there goes my delulu boat sinking into the water," she said with mock sadness, her tone theatrical enough to make Daniala roll her eyes.
"You are so dramatic," Daniala replied, trying to sound annoyed but failing to hide the small laugh that escaped her.
