Chapter 62 - 62: Learning Magic

The secret room behind the Student Council was vast and completely empty. A short set of stairs from the door led down to a floor shaped like a perfect circle, as if someone had carved a giant disc into the earth.

Sona and Yusuke stood in the middle of the room. With a serious, earnest expression, Sona said, "Magic is a phenomenon born from other forms of energy, a power that anyone can wield, even humans."

"There are many kinds of magic. Norse Magic, Fairy Magic, and countless others exist, each relying on different equations and principles, including the divine magic used by the gods and their pantheons."

"The human system of magic is divided into two main branches. Western Magic, a system of spells and magical knowledge founded in Europe, and Eastern Magic, a system of sorcery that originates in Asia."

Sona raised her hand, and a small tornado spun into existence above her palm. "Human magic is not restricted by the type of magic it can draw from, unlike certain other systems. However, it is generally much harder to master and demands a far greater level of calculation and concentration."

"On the other hand, a Devil's demonic power relies mostly on imagination and instinct. There are also bloodline abilities, such as the Phoenix clan's immortality, the Bael clan's power of destruction, or my own clan's water affinity."

Yusuke listened attentively to her lecture. Compared to other forms of magic, human magic seemed far more versatile, yet at the same time much harder to master and execute than demonic power or other types of magic. On top of that, only those born with a talent for it could truly learn it.

Anyone else would be just wasting their time and effort to learn useless spells.

"I don't know many human magic spells, but I can teach you the most common ones, like teleportation, flight, and some offensive spells such as fireballs or water balls." Sona stepped closer to him. Trying to appear natural, she slipped her hand into his and continued with a straight face, though her cheeks betrayed her with a faint flush. "I will first show you the magic formula and circulate my magic into you so you can grasp the gist of it."

'Sona-sama, you are so obvious.' From her spot at the corner of the room, Tsubaki watched her master trying to act natural while touching Yusuke. The corner of her lips curved into a faint smile.

Yusuke ignored Sona's eyes that looked like they were devouring him, and her hand that was subtly caressing his palm. He focused instead, memorizing the magic formula as best he could before following her magic circulation. Stretching out his hand, sparks flickered, and a small flame burst into life. Elated, he shouted, "I did it!"

Puff!

The fire immediately vanished, dissipating into nothing.

"Amazing! As expected of my Yusuke!" Sona's eyes widened in surprise when she saw him nearly succeed on his very first try. Her happiness slipped out in the wrong words, and realizing it, she gave a quick cough and corrected herself, "Cough… as expected of you, Yusuke-san!"

"Thanks." Yusuke pretended not to notice her slip of the tongue and replied casually. He could have teased her, sure, but that would probably short-circuit her brain for a while, and right now he needed her focused on teaching magic.

"Alright, try again. This time, don't get distracted." Sona felt relieved, thinking neither Yusuke nor Tsubaki had caught her blunder. Or maybe they did, and just decided not to say anything?

Yusuke gave her a nod and went through the process again, this time putting his full focus into it. As he followed the magic formula and circulated his energy, a small fireball flickered to life in his palm.

Remembering his earlier mistake, he didn't rush. He held it steady, keeping his attention fixed until it felt completely stable. Only then did he aim at the floor a few meters away and throw it forward.

Bang!

The fireball hit the ground with a sharp pop, bursting into smoke and leaving behind a faint scorched mark.

[Congratulations, cunt! You've successfully learned the skill: Fireball!]

Suddenly, the system's sarcastic voice echoed in his mind, and along with it came the song "Fireball."

[I'm a fireball

Fireball

Fireball

I saw, I came, I conquered

Or should I say, I saw, I conquered, I came

They say the chico on fire and he no liar

While y'all slippin' he runnin' the game

Now big bang boogie

Get that kitty little noogie...]

'What, I got a new skill just like that?!' Yusuke froze in surprise. Then he frowned and shouted, 'Stop the freaking music! I'm trying to think here!'

[Tsk! I was just trying to liven up the atmosphere, grumpy little cunt. No wonder no women liked you before!] The system tsked with a dissatisfied, disdainful voice.

[What's so surprising about this? A spell is a skill in itself. Since you learned it, naturally, it will appear in your skill bar. You can use your skill points to level it up, though I'm not sure even a dumbass like you would know that it would be a waste of points.]

'So that was the case, holeless bitch. You should've told me that earlier,' Yusuke's eyes twitched at the system's poisonous tone. He snapped, 'You have the audacity to speak with such condescension. If you had a real body, I would've fucked both your holes senseless just to teach you some sense.'

[...] The system didn't reply. She went completely silent.

"You did it, Yusuke-san. Your talent in magic is the greatest I've ever seen." Sona patted his shoulder and subtly squeezed, feeling the muscle beneath, speaking with genuine enthusiasm. "I really want to make you part of my peerage. Won't you consider joining me?"

"I am honored to receive your invitation, Sona-senpai, but no thanks. I like my human identity for now." Yusuke refused calmly. He didn't want to become someone else's servant.

If he didn't have a system, he might have considered it, but he was a man with a system. Sure, the system was a bitch, but the rewards were generous, and his future potential was very high... provided he didn't end up locked in a basement by some crazy yandere.

"As you wish." Sona felt slightly disappointed, even though she had expected his answer. She maintained her smile and continued, "Let's try something more difficult this time. How about flight magic?"

"Yes, Sona-sensei!" Yusuke replied.

'Ehh? Sona-sensei?!' Sona's mind went blank for a split second as she imagined herself in an OL uniform, holding a ruler and "teaching" Yusuke.

...

Bang! Bang! Bang!

In a remote mountain, loud explosions erupted one after another, leaving massive scorch marks in their wake. Fire so hot it melted the rocks shot continuously from Yusuke's hands.

"Fire Dragon Slayer Magic is incredible!" Yusuke muttered under his breath, staring at the scene of destruction he had created. It was far stronger than he had expected, especially since the skill was still only level one.

The only weakness of this skill was that it consumed too much of his Spirit. The good news was that he had eleven Spirit points, allowing him to use it for an extended period. He could also "eat" fire to replenish his magic, as long as it wasn't fire he had produced himself.

"Fire Dragon Slayer Magic? Is this some kind of ancient magic?" Sona and Tsubaki exchanged a glance, shock and astonishment written across their faces. They couldn't believe Yusuke was this strong!

If they had known, the two of them wouldn't have even bothered trying to stop Rias and Akeno yesterday.

After teaching Yusuke flight and teleportation magic, the three of them teleported to this mountain as a trial. Here, he decided to test his newly acquired skill, and it did not disappoint.

'As expected of my boyfriend. He's incredible!' Tsubaki clasped her hands together, her eyes overflowing with love and admiration.

'System, allocate the two skill points into Fire Dragon Slayer Magic,' Yusuke ordered without hesitation. He had been unsure earlier, but after witnessing the skill's destructive power, all doubt vanished.

Among his skills, the ones truly useful to him were Observation Haki, Master's Exploitation, and Fire Dragon Slayer Magic.

If he leveled up Observation Haki, he could detect danger from afar. If he leveled up Master's Exploitation, he might be able to get more than one skill from his Goudere women. However, after thinking it over, Yusuke still chose Fire Dragon Slayer Magic.

For one, his senses were already wide-ranging enough to detect any threat from a distance. Logically, if he faced a danger that even his senses couldn't pick up, it wouldn't matter how strong they were; what he truly needed in that moment was the ability to fight back.

As for Master's Exploitation, it was practically useless right now. He had already acquired the useful skills from his women; the remaining ones had almost no use for him.

[Fire Dragon Slayer Magic Lv1 has been leveled up to Fire Dragon Slayer Magic Lv3.] A system notification immediately appeared before him.

"Let's try it again."

'Fire Dragon's Roar!' Yusuke took a long, deep breath. His throat and cheeks expanded, and an orange magic formation appeared before him. When he exhaled, fire shot from his mouth like the roar of a real dragon.

BOOOOMMMM!!

The fire condensed into a thick beam and blasted the mountain before them. A massive explosion erupted, throwing all three of them off balance.

Yusuke quickly activated flight magic and hovered in the air, while the two women spread their devil wings to fly. They stared at the scene below in sheer shock.

Half the mountain they had been standing on was completely razed, but that was not all. A long, deep trail stretched behind the destroyed mountain, forming what looked like a valley.

'What the actual fuck? I'm this strong?!!!' Yusuke nearly lost control of his magic and fell to the ground from the shock.

The power exceeded his wildest imagination. If he hadn't been standing on the other half of the mountain, he was certain it would have been completely razed as well.

"What... what was that?!" Sona's glasses flew off her face and tumbled through the air, but she barely noticed. She had witnessed far more destructive scenes before, especially since her sister was a Maou, the strongest female devil, capable of razing a country like Japan in minutes.

But Yusuke was just a human. A human without any sacred gear. A human who had only learned to use magic today from her. A human who had awakened his bloodline just over a week ago!

How the fuck did he do it? Is his bloodline really that powerful? Could it be the bloodline of some insanely strong Dragon Slayer, someone who had even attained the status of a God?
