Chapter 165 - Chapter 166: Wove’s Place to Go

The next few days slipped back into calm training again. This time, Amir was no longer training alone—he had brought along two apprentices.

Compared to the Jedi Order's earlier, relatively free-form training style, Amir's education from his previous life had made him more accustomed to a more systematic and efficient way of learning.

Amir was already used to it. 32 didn't mind it much either—in fact, he adapted quickly. Only Millisyn was gradually starting to suffer.

If the lightsaber hadn't kept pulling her along, she probably would have slipped back onto the Traveler long ago to slurp down ice cream.

"Millisyn has already improved a lot," Obi-Wan said, trying to stay optimistic. By the old Jedi Order's standards, Millisyn would definitely have had a hard time qualifying.

But Obi-Wan's mindset had changed by now, and he had begun to approve of some of Amir's methods.

For example, eating a good meal every now and then, or lying on the Traveler's sofa with a strange drink in hand.

He had to admit—it was actually rather nice. He enjoyed it too.

But the premise for all of that was that Amir had never allowed such things to affect training.

On the contrary, after resting, his training efficiency was often even higher.

There had once been apprentices who protested the Jedi Order's rules, thinking them too conservative and too rigid, arguing that some emotions and desires should be allowed more freedom.

But that often became the start of their fall.

Not everyone possessed the kind of iron will needed to control themselves.

So rules were necessary.

At least for most people.

Life on Tatooine was equally uneventful. Today some criminal was caught by bounty hunters; tomorrow Jabba would be teaching some clueless gang a lesson; some merchant caravan would be intercepted by Tusken Raiders.

None of it really affected ordinary people's lives unless disaster happened to fall on them by sheer bad luck.

A few days later, an old friend sent Amir a transmission.

It was Wove—the red-skinned, horned, devil-like man who had stayed on Tatooine for a while, studying moisture farming.

He told Amir that he had come to love the place.

The hot climate was not a burden to him. On the contrary, it reminded him of his homeworld and made him feel comfortable.

Wove sent Amir a set of coordinates. He had found an abandoned residence in a small town and was working with the villagers there to prepare a moisture farm.

Amir was genuinely happy for him when he heard that.

In times like these, having a farm of your own and living a quiet life, untouched by conflict, was actually the best thing possible.

That was the life Amir longed for too.

One morning, Amir piloted the Traveler alone toward the town.

The town was called Mos Pelgo, far to the south of Mos Eisley. By normal travel, the journey would take several days.

But with a ship, such concerns didn't exist. After less than thirty minutes in the air, he saw its outline appear in the barren desert.

The town was not large—at most a few dozen households, most of the homes buried in the sand.

A few scattered residents were walking the streets, and when they saw the Traveler approach, they all became wary.

The Empire had left deep shadows on their hearts.

Wove, huge and broad-shouldered, was waiting in the street. As soon as he saw the ship approach, he called out cheerfully to the people nearby,

"Don't worry, everyone! This is my friend! He's here to help us!"

Wove seemed to get along very well with the people here. The others no longer hid, and instead gathered around him to wait for the ship to land.

When Amir opened the hatch and saw the scene in front of him, he felt a little awkward.

"Hey, Wove. Looks like they really welcome me?" Amir asked, puzzled.

"Come on in, come on in." The giant, over two meters tall and a full head taller than Amir, slung an arm around Amir's shoulders and guided him down the street.

"Long time no see, little guy," Wove added, greeting BD-4 too.

Seeing Wove's somewhat unnatural smile, Amir asked, "You've got something else going on, don't you?"

Wove only smiled and led Amir into the nearby cantina.

The owner was a Weequay with several white ponytail-like braids, rough skin, and a fierce face that made anyone think twice before causing trouble on his turf.

After greeting him, Wove led Amir to a table in the center of the cantina and sat down.

Everyone in the cantina had gone quiet by then, watching the two of them either openly or from the corners of their eyes.

"Go on," Amir said.

Wove spoke a little awkwardly. "I told you before—I found a moisture farm here. The farm is very good, and I've already learned how to cultivate it. But this town isn't exactly peaceful."

"Tusken Raiders?" Amir immediately thought of what Obi-Wan had once told him.

Tusken Raiders had always been the greatest threat to villages and small towns outside Tatooine's cities. The native tribes bore deep hostility toward outsiders.

Their already barren land had been enclosed and carved up by the cities. Huge caravans crossed their territory openly with heavy armed escorts, seizing what little resources remained to them, and even slaughtering their people for amusement.

Already fiercely hateful toward the outside world, the Tusken tribes began retaliating with their own weapons and blasters, attacking and raiding caravans to seize more supplies.

"Yes, but not only that," Wove said helplessly. "There's an Imperial mining camp near the town too. They keep a lot of prisoners there, and Imperial troops come through here every so often. That's already bad enough—but the Tusken Raiders are the most immediate problem."

"Mos Pelgo sits right on the edge of Tusken territory. It gets threatened and attacked all the time. The people here have suffered badly."

"Not long after I arrived, I was peacefully tending seedlings when a group of Tusken Raiders came right up to the edge of town. I helped the townspeople drive them off—but the townsfolk say that was only a probe. We killed some of their people. We've already angered them."

Amir thought for a moment and said, "Can they negotiate?"

"I'm not sure whether they're willing to reason, but it might be worth trying. Is there anything that can be used to bargain with them?" Wove asked, concerned.

"How about a krayt dragon?" Amir asked.

He remembered something Obi-Wan had once told him about Tusken customs. In all those years wandering the desert, Obi-Wan had spent enough time observing them closely.

For a Tusken over the age of fifteen, killing a krayt dragon was enough to complete a rite of passage and be recognized as an adult by the tribe.

The method didn't matter. Even a group hunt counted.

That alone showed how deeply they revered—and obsessed over—krayt dragons.
