Chapter 160 - Chapter 161: Obi-Wan’s Emptiness

After dinner, Amir updated Luke's lessons, then brought everyone back to Obi-Wan's little hut.

"After this, I won't be seeing him often anymore." Obi-Wan's gaze was unusually clear. "A peaceful, stable life suits him too."

Amir thought of what would happen later in the films: R2-D2 and C-3PO—carrying information of enormous importance—would accidentally land at this small farm. R2 carried Leia's message. It was looking for Obi-Wan.

And because of that droid, Imperial troops—unable to find what they wanted—would murder Owen and Beru, leaving them as charred bones.

Even though Amir had only met them twice, he genuinely liked Owen—cold on the outside, warm inside—and Beru, who was gentle and understanding. They loved each other. They had a good life. It wasn't wealthy, but on this barren land they still built a happy home through sheer effort.

Luke had grown up under their care, and that was why his heart remained so pure and kind.

This time, they won't die. Amir made the decision silently.

"It doesn't have to be that extreme. Even if you check on him once in a while, it won't affect him—so long as you don't give in and take him as a student." Amir said with a grin.

"Did you notice something?" Obi-Wan couldn't help asking. "Your perception is stronger than mine. How is Luke?"

"You sure you want to know?" Amir teased.

Obi-Wan went quiet.

"This doesn't even need asking. Luke's connection to the Force is extremely strong—it just hasn't been awakened yet." Amir stopped joking.

Obi-Wan sighed despite himself. "What do you think his future will be?"

Amir clasped his hands like a fortune-teller. "Want me to cast a reading?"

He actually had an active Force-precognition ability, and Obi-Wan knew it.

"Of course." Obi-Wan even looked more alert.

Amir already knew the plot, but he still reached for Force-precognition and felt along it.

After a long while, he opened his eyes. The images were blurry and abstract, but he still sensed what mattered.

"The Force will guide him onto the Jedi path. I saw light and hope around him."

Obi-Wan looked helpless. He'd finally forced himself not to push Luke—and yet it would develop on its own anyway?

"The future isn't fixed," Amir comforted him. "Maybe he'll still live safely as a farmer his whole life."

Obi-Wan nodded.

Early the next morning, Kain returned. He arrived in a hurry, but Amir saw something different in his eyes.

"So. You figured it out?" Amir asked. He'd never sat Kain down for a formal talk, but he understood what Kain had been wrestling with. Kain was a little older, but still just a teenager. Raised on Coruscant, he'd never truly seen the galaxy as a whole.

Once he saw it clearly, Kain would never be content to drift through life as a bounty hunter.

"Yeah." Kain nodded. "I'm leaving. I met a group of people. I'm going with them for a while."

Amir knew that once Kain left this time, it would be a long, long time before they met again.

But neither of them said much.

Just like back on the prison ship—when Kain realized that person was Amir, he'd fired on the Imperial Inquisitor without hesitation.

He trusted Amir. Amir trusted him too—and trusted that Kain was choosing the right road. He would support him with everything he had.

"Come with me. I've got something good for you." Amir smiled mysteriously and led him toward the Traveler.

A short while later, Kain walked back out in a daze—carrying two crates of precious metal ingots, a smart combat backpack strapped to his back, and two plates of beskar steel stuffed against his chest.

He honestly questioned his eyesight. A small mountain of precious metals and credit chips—what even was that? What had Amir been doing lately?

A few more days of training passed.

Amir sank even deeper into lightsaber practice. No boredom, no fatigue. To him, a lightsaber was art—every swing was pure enjoyment.

Millisyn didn't feel the same. Under Obi-Wan's guidance, she and 32 spent most of their time meditating.

And more importantly—she wanted a lightsaber. Her own.

Even 32 had one now. It looked old, but at least he could practice forms with it!

After a sparring session with Obi-Wan, Amir saw Millisyn run over, sulking, cheeks puffed out as she stared at him.

"What's wrong?" Amir asked, fully aware. These past days she'd been dying of envy watching everyone train.

"Hmph hmph hmph!!" Millisyn refused to speak. She just kept staring.

Amir laughed. "Alright, I know what you're thinking."

Her face immediately brightened. "So—when do we go?!"

"No point waiting. We go today." Amir stood up, pulled Obi-Wan toward the Traveler, and Millisyn bounced along behind them.

"So where are you planning to go?" Obi-Wan asked Amir.

Amir thought for a moment. "Millisyn needs a kyber crystal. How about Ilum—safe?"

Back in the Jedi Order, younglings were often led by a Jedi Master to worlds like Ilum—rich in kyber—to find the crystal that resonated with them and build their first lightsaber.

But after the Empire rose, many kyber worlds were occupied. Imperial mining teams extracted kyber on a massive scale—no one knew where it all went.

"I don't know," Obi-Wan said. "I haven't been there in years. But I can tell you where it is. Ilum is a good choice. I went many times with younglings. The Order opened specific areas—places with scattered kyber crystals. The Empire wouldn't mine there on an industrial scale."

"Then I'll take a look."

This time, both Millisyn and 32 would go. They'd both begun to grasp the Force. It was time for them to have their own lightsabers to train properly.

"Be careful." Obi-Wan saw them off, then returned to his hut.

Amir had left him plenty of money. For a while, Obi-Wan wouldn't need to take risky jobs. He could simply make occasional trips to Mos Eisley for supplies.

Most of his time now went into learning how to become a Force spirit, guided by Qui-Gon.

Since Amir returned, Qui-Gon had gone over everything he knew again. There was still more he hadn't remembered yet, but what he'd taught was already extraordinary. If Amir could truly absorb and integrate it all, he would already be on par with some of the Order's Masters.

The most important part was still the mind. In that area, Amir had deep self-awareness—Qui-Gon didn't need to say much.

Later, if there was a chance, Qui-Gon wanted Amir to meet Master Yoda. Yoda had far more experience. He would bring Amir insights Qui-Gon couldn't.

Obi-Wan felt a strange emptiness.

Why did it feel like this new apprentice hadn't even been taught properly yet… and was already ready to graduate?
