Damien was buried in quarterly reports and a crisis memo about a perfume launch disaster in Milan when a sharp knock echoed at his door.

Jaxon already strolled inside like he owned the place. Coffee in one hand, manila folder in the other, and that look on his face—the one that said, "I have tea, and it's boiling."
Damien didn't even glance up. "Do you ever wait for an answer?"
"Nope," Jaxon said cheerfully, setting the folder down like it contained a weapon. "Because when you hear this, you'll thank me for not wasting a second."
Damien finally looked up, his brow lifting. "What now? Is the board freaking out again? Or did Olivia accidentally send that thirst trap to the marketing team?"
"Nope. Better." Jaxon pointed to the folder like it might bite. "I dug up Elle Carter's family background."
Damien sighed. Slowly. Deeply. The kind of sigh that said this better be good, or I'm firing you for sport.
