Chapter 6 - Chapter 55- A Breakthrough

After Xai Lin and An Mo reached their room, they helped each other put on their clothes, looking like an old married couple.

Xai Lin didn't let An Mo wear his old clothes. She had both male and female clothes, which were prepared to help with her disguise, so she just took out a few sets of robes from those. However, because she had prepared them for disguise, they were rather ordinary and of low quality.

"I only have these simple robes, so just wear these sets for now. We'll reach the Dark Moon Continent in a few days, and I'll by you new clothes then."

Xai Lin said in a remorseful tone while tying the robe's belt around An Mo's slender waist.

An Mo, who was busy smoothing out Xai Lin's hair that he had personally washed, heard her words and showed a smile as he said.

"Xai-xai, there's no need to rush. I don't mind wearing your clothes."

An Mo let out a giggle after saying that, before burying his head in the crook of Xai Lin's neck and took a sniff of her hair. He really liked the soap they used, especially when it was on Xai Lin. The smell was a minty scent with a bit of citrus.

Every time An Mo caught a whiff of it from Xai Lin, his noise would involuntarily twitch, and he would have the urge to lean closer to get a better smell.

Xai Lin unconsciously tilted her head due to An Mo's actions, and seeing this, An Mo gladly buried his head further into Xai Lin's hair and greedily inhale the scent on her hair.

Only after fixing An Mo's robes did Xai Lin came to and realize An Mo's odd behavior.

Pinching his waist, she said.

"An Mo, are you a dog? Move away so I can brush your hair."

At the same time, a silver brush appeared in Xai Lin's hand.

An Mo hissed, and reluctantly let go of Xai Lin.

After being freed, Xai Lin looked up at An Mo's hair about to speak. But upon seeing his hair, her expression froze.

This was because An Mo's hair had already returned to that bouncy and curly texture, as if her half an hour worth of effort in the hot spring to smooth them out were meaningless.

Xai Lin looked at An Mo's fluffy, bright orange hair and asked in a somewhat skeptical and defeated tone.

"Could it be that your hair has a passive function to retain this look?"

While touching his hair, An Mo showed a bashful expression as he explained.

"That might actually be the case. My innate abilities weaken when I'm in human form and some manifest in different ways, and since my Divine Monkey King form has the ability to resist all elements including water, it looks like my hair has taken on this property."

"It can actually work like that?"

Xai Lin said, feeling even more incredulous.

Staring at An Mo's hair for a few seconds, she gave up trying to smooth out his hair and pulled him over to set on the ground with his back facing the bed. Now sitting on the bed behind him, Xai Lin coated her fingers with Spiritual Qi and gently gathered An Mo's hair behind his head and tied it in a low ponytail with a bright red hair tie.

However, the moment she released her grip, An Mo's hair, which had been obedient under her Spiritual Qi, acted up again. The low ponytail sprang up and spread out like a peacock spreading its wings. But thankfully, the hair tie held on and kept his curls in check.

"Turn around."

Xai Lin said, and An Mo obediently turned around and knelt in front of Xai Lin.

Xai Lin's gaze swept across An Mo's hair and face, and a satisfied smile appeared on her lips.

An Mo's forehead and eyebrows, which were always obscured, was now clearly visible. His hairline was also showing, and it further shaped his face, giving his already handsome appearance a clear and distinctive look.

Xai Lin also noticed that with his hair combed back, An Mo's face lost most of its cuteness and his mature features became more prominent. If he looked like a cute and vibrant youth before, now he looked like a slightly mature teenager who was about to become an adult.

Seeing that Xai Lin was just staring at his face without saying anything, An Mo suddenly lean forward and stole a kiss from her.

Xai Lin was made to snap back to her senses by this.

"Xai-xai, were you captivated by my good-looks just now?"

An Mo said in a teasing tone, and Xai Lin couldn't help but blush slightly.

Upon seeing this, An Mo immediately became excited. He was the one who was always made to blush—this was the first time he had seen Xai Lin small face turn red. It was really too stimulating.

However, before An Mo could act, Xai Lin recovered and pushed the brush into his hand, and said while getting up.

"It's your turn to comb my hair."

Looking at the silver brush in his hand, An Mo could only pout his lips in dissatisfaction. Getting up, he switched with Xai Lin and began combing her hair. His actions were careful, and gentle, while making sure it didn't hurt when combing through the tangles.

As for using Spiritual Qi to do these things, Xai Lin had already said she liked doing these mortal-like things, so An Mo would accompany her. Plus, he didn't find it boring spending time with Xai Lin like this—he quite liked it…

During the time An Mo and Xai Lin were on the flying ship, this was how the two spent their time alone. But they had not forgotten Su Jin.

In order to keep an eye on Su Jin, An Mo would drag him out of his room to sit on the bow of the ship along with Xai Lin.

While Su Jin focused on Weapon Artifact Refining, An Mo would lay in Xai Lin's lap and read those graphic novels. Every time he saw a well-drawn image, he would turn to shower Xai Lin with praise, and at other times when he didn't understand a concept he would finish the entire book before discussing it with Xai Lin.

However, after spending a few days like this, An Mo began sensing an abnormality within Xai Lin's body that made his scalp go numb.

Using his Myriad Dao Eyes, he could see that her Spiritual Qi was becoming restless, and even her Sea of Consciousness was showing signs of instability.

This actually caused quite a bit of misunderstanding, as An Mo remained silent for a few days while watching this occurring, thinking it was only a small matter, only for it to become worse and worse as time went on.

Meanwhile, Xai Lin, who was busy regulating her Spiritual Qi and preparing for a major breakthrough, didn't know her Dao Companion was slowly going crazy while watching her.

It was only after An Mo stopped reading his graphic novels and began staring at her with a pale face did she realize something was wrong.

After asking and finding out An Mo's worry, Xai Lin had to hurriedly explain that these things were happening because she was having a breakthrough. She was afraid if she didn't An Mo would worry himself to death.

This misunderstanding actually stemmed from the fact that Demonic Beasts, Spiritual Beasts, and Divine Beast like An Mo had slight differences when breaking through a cultivation realm than human cultivators, and An Mo had never seen how a human cultivator breakthrough a realm in his Legacy Memories. So, when this lack of knowledge was coupled with the fact that he also thought the abnormality in Xai Lin's body had something to do with her secrets, An Mo became hesitant to voice his worry and break their tacit understanding.
