Chapter 120 - Chapter 119: Kakashi is on a rampage (2)

Kakashi stood inside the chest of his complete Susanoo and stared at the portal high above Manhattan.

The blue circle never stopped vomiting Chitauri. No matter how many he killed, more came. Thousands turned into tens of thousands. The sky was black with them again.

He checked his chakra reserves. Forty percent remained. That was not good.

The perfect Susanoo was beautiful and powerful, but it drank chakra like a desert drinks water. The giant Kamui shuriken and the massive sword slashes had burned even more.

Creating twenty strong earth clones that could last against some chitauri foot soldiers equal to the strength of chunin's had taken another big bite. He could feel the emptiness growing inside him.

Two choices stood in front of him.

He could pull back, save the rest of his chakra, and fight carefully. That would let the Chitauri spread across the city. They would reach Brooklyn, Queens, New Jersey. Millions would die before help arrived. The clones could only save so many people.

Or he could keep going all out and trust his team to shut the portal in time.

His younger self would have chosen the safe path. The old Kakashi would have calculated every move, saved every drop of chakra, and stayed cold. That Kakashi had watched friends die because he was too careful, too afraid to spend everything he had.

He was not that boy anymore.

He had learned from Naruto that sometimes you have to burn bright even if it leaves nothing behind. He had learned from Obito that protecting your people is worth any price. He had learned from Rin that a life spent holding back is a life half lived.

He had learned from Team 7 to trust the people with you and Kakashi decided to believe in the rest of the Avengers.

Kakashi smiled under the mask.

"I really have grown up," he whispered to himself. "But I choose to believe in them."

He tightened his grip on the Susanoo's swords. But he decided to help them a little.

First, he had to clean the streets. Small groups of Chitauri from the first wave had already slipped past the main fight. They were hunting civilians in side streets. The Avengers were busy holding the centre. Kakashi did not like the risk.

He focused on the right sword. Blue chakra shifted and changed. Lightning crackled along the blade until the whole weapon became pure blue electricity.

Kakashi closed his visible eye and opened the his Mangekyō wide.

"Ikazuchi no Mai: Chidori Senbon."

He used his ability to keep the lightning controlled while also reducing the chakra expenditure of it.

The lightning sword then exploded.

Thousands of giant senbon made of pure lightning shot out from the blade. They were longer than cars and thicker than tree trunks. They hung in the air for one heartbeat, glowing like the anger of a god. Then Kakashi moved his eye.

Every senbon found a target. With the Mangekyõ ability, he managed to control each of the senbons though it put a lot of strain in his eyes.

The sky turned blue.

It looked like Zeus himself had decided to punish the world. Lightning needles filled the air in every direction.

And then they moved. The sound was deafening, a single endless thunderclap that shook windows for miles.

On the ground, Chitauri soldiers never saw death coming.

One alien raised its gun at a scared family hiding behind a taxi. A lightning senbon fell from the sky and punched straight through its chest. The needle kept going and pinned the body to the wall of a building. Electricity danced over the corpse until nothing remained but smoking metal.

Another Chitauri chased a screaming child down an alley. A second senbon hit it from behind, lifted it ten metres into the air, and nailed it to a billboard. The body jerked once and burned.

A squad of six riders on hover chariots flew low over a street. Six senbon fell together. Six explosions of lightning lit the night. When the light faded, only pieces drifted down.

Captain America fought three Chitauri at once on a wrecked avenue. He blocked a blast with his shield and prepared to throw it.

Before he could move, a lightning senbon dropped from above. It went through the middle alien, through the ground, and kept going until it hit the subway below. The two remaining Chitauri looked up in terror. Two more senbon ended them.

Steve lowered his shield and stared at the sky filled with lightning spears. He had called Loki a false god once. Now he watched real power fall like judgment.

"Jesus," he whispered, then caught himself. "I mean… fuck Jesus."

Tony flew past a building that had just lost half its top floor to a stray lightning needle.

"Jarvis, talk to me."

"Each bolt is carrying millions of volts, sir. The energy is off the charts. I have no explanation."

Tony just sighed. His whole understanding of the world had broken today. He was too tired to argue with physics anymore.

High above on Stark Tower, Thor paused in his fight with Loki. He looked down at the storm of lightning and felt small for the first time in centuries.

"I was arrogant," he said quietly. "I called myself god of thunder. I was a fool. Perhaps this warrior will teach me true lightning one day."

Loki stood beside him, scepter in hand. He watched the lightning rain with a calm smile. No fear showed on his face.

'It seems I did not underestimate you after all, mortal,' he thought. 'Good. Very good. Everything is going exactly as planned.'
