After a few minutes of uneasy silence, low murmurs began ripping through the capsule as initiates started speculating about where Warden Gregory was taking them.
Kiah kept her eyes closed, her head leaning against the backrest as she tried to drown out the chatter. She hadn't gotten nearly enough sleep, and she figured this might be the last quiet moment she'd get for a while.
Fortunately, her companions seemed to share the same sentiment. No one made much effort to talk, probably because any guesses about their destination would end up wrong anyway. All they could do was wait and see.
Still, one thing struck Kiah as odd: Warden Gregory's absence.
Normally in other training, he was at the departure station barking orders and overseeing the launch himself. But this time, even though his voice had been the one to yank them awake, he hadn't shown up in person.
