The town was attacked by a mysterious forces, they wore outfit similar to wild hunt except they were red in colour, attacking, plundering and abducting the people of the town. They don't know whether this people were wild hunt or other equally dangerous forces, one thing is clear, they have no good intentions.
In a nearby house a couple opened a trapdoor and send there their kids inside, in hope to protect them from the invaders.
"Raymond, Amelia, no matter what don't come out of the hidden room no matter what", the mother of the kid spoke .
"But mom, what about you?", Raymond spoke with tear on his eyes.
"Don't worry about me and father, as long you are fine we will be okay, just don't come out, okay?", mother of the kids spoke.
"Quicky! They are coming!", Father of the kids spoke.
"Just remember, don't come out", Mother of the kids spoke.
Raymond and his sister entered the hidden room, the mother, hid the trapdoor with a carpet, and they opened the backdoor, waiting for the invader to come from the front door.
The front door is broken and the invaders with armor identical to the wild hunt but in red colour entered.
"I found some of them, Get them!", an invader said.
The couple turning themselves as a bait, began running away to lure out the invaders, away from their children.
"Be safe, my beloved children", the mother of the kids spoke in low voice, and ran with her husband.
Meanwhile, the sibling.
"Will mom and dad will bre okay", Amelia spoke.
"They will be", Raymond enduring the grief lied to his little sister.
6 month later.....
Following the attack on the town, and disappearance of their parents, the siblings were on their on, the older brother Raymond Harvey, decided to drop out of school to save enough money for the continuation of his sister's studies. Because unlike him who was an ordinary student studying in ordinary school, his sister is a genius in alchemy and study in a prestigious academy that specializes in art of alchemy and science. Raymond being a responsible brother, didn't want his sister to give up on her dream to become a famed alchemist, afterall, this is the era of industrialization, and alchemy is one of many sought after jobs right now with high pay. Beside in current era, all alchemist and scientists are well respected and relied on. His sister also possess a source, allowing her to use magic to further make alchemical work easier.
One day Amelia, with her head down came to his brother.
"Big bro, I am sorry", Amelia apologised Raymond with her head down.
"Why are you apologising me?", Raymond asked while confused.
"I mean...because of me...big brother...dropped out of his...school", Amelia spoke while sobbing.
"Please don't cry, it's okay, I won't mind just focus on your study", Raymond said with smile.
"But...I", Amelia tried to speak but was interrupted.
"It's okay, I won't mind dropping out, as your big brother, it is my duty to help you, since, our parents are missing", Raymond spoke.
While comforting his sister, he recalled the day, when the town was invaded and their parents turned themselves into bait to lure away the invader, he made a promise to himself to protect both himself and his sister at all cost, to ensure that their parent's sacrifice is worth it.
"Besides I if you are really that upset, why don't you put all your focus in study", Raymond comforted his sister.
"But...", Amelia tried to speak something bot she was once again interrupted.
"Listen, our parents sacrificed themselves to protect us, and as the big brother, I am making sure that their sacrifice is worth it, similarly I am making a sacrifice to ensure that your study is not interrupted, why don't you study to make sure, my sacrifice is not in vain", Raymond explains.
"I understood, I won't let you down", Amelia replied.
"That's my sister! so, make sure study well and don't worry your big brother is here", Raymond said.
"Take care", Amelia said.
After Amelia returned to her room, Raymond checked how much money they have left, he found although they still have enough, it will be still a matter of time, that they run out of money. Afterall, money is important thing for Raymond to pay the rent for the apartment they are living in, pay for groceries, pay for his sister's school fees. Raymond, did many part time jobs but it is still not enough for him to cover all the expenses in future, so he need to find a better job.
Raymond picked up a newspaper, and found an article about the importance of materials needed for alchemy, that is, the herbs and materials obtained from monsters, as selling these for completing a contract related to obtaining these can allow one to earn some money. The money earned is also dependent on the value and demand of the herbs and monster parts.
There is also an article about a professional witcher, who is now one of the wealthiest person, thanks to him being a highly skilled witcher, who completed many difficult contracts, and obtained rare resources during his missions, that could be exchanged for large sum of money or as a ingredient for alchemical items used by witcher.
There was also an article about the increased importance of monster parts from ghoul and alghouls, as the new revolutionary brews made from the material obtained from these creatures, causing them to be seen as both curse and blessing, in fact some companies even decided to create a necrophage farm to raise them and then harvest the materials from them, resulting in the wealth of these companies to skyrocket.
Having read these articles, Raymond realised the imprtances of the alchemical materials and the fortune one can earn from them. This gave Raymond an idea, since, he need funds for himself and his sister, he decided to take on the job that allow him to cover all expense for himself and his sister.
That is, taking the job of a witcher.
