"Are you okay? Can I help you?" Ian asked, offering to hold Kai's hand.
Kai refused. "I'm fine. I'm sorry... I'm walking slowly," he said.
"No, no. It's okay. I just want to help," Ian replied, walking behind the young man again.
Kai stopped and turned around. "Um... can you walk beside me?" he asked. He was uncomfortable with Ian walking behind him.
Ian nodded. "Sure."
Ian adapted very quickly. After one day there, he already knew several of the waiters and their duties. He had also memorized the important places he needed to remember. He had even gotten to know the kitchen staff.
So Ian led the way to where they were going now.
"Let's go to the back garden?" asked Ian, and Kai nodded.
Ian walked silently beside Kai. He knew Kai rarely spoke. At the dormitory, he had seen that Kai only talked when asked. But right now, the residence felt so tense.
