Chapter 29 - 29

Kim Dokja understood the need to put on an act in a professional setting though, he could see why Yoo Joonghyuk was doing this. It was just a shame that the persona he chose to have was the cold-blooded, short-tempered, tyrant CEO kind.

Yoo Joonghyuk decided to stalk away without a goodbye.

It was rather entertaining how mere minutes after their CEO was out of sight, Kim Dokja got a text from Yoo Joonghyuk asking him not to mind the way he had behaved and apologising if he found it uncomfortable.

Kim Dokja kept his smiles to himself as he typed back a text saying that he didn't find it uncomfortable at all, and that, in fact, he found it very interesting. He totally understood why they had to do it, he didn't mind at all.

Kim Dokja did get called to the Department Head's office and got an earful for not being mindful around the CEO. He was kind enough to remind him with very harsh words that even though Yoo Joonghyuk's official designation was CEO, he was actually the one who owned the whole company and that Kim Dokja had just had to be an entitled little brat with a smart mouth that couldn't shut up about little things like water spills.

Kim Dokja felt a little relaxed after he heard all the scoldings, really. It finally felt like he was at work now.

His colleagues now knew him as the person who nearly got fired within a week at the job.

As he had expected, when he visited Yoo Joonghyuk's place on Sunday, Yoo Joonghyuk nervously explained the situation to him and Uriel laughed in the background.

"I really thought it was pretty funny," Kim Dokja said as they ate the food that Yoo Joonghyuk had made for dinner.

"I mean, Joonghyuk-ssi, you can improve when it comes to your acting."

"Was I obvious?" Yoo Joonghyuk asked.

"To me," Kim Dokja said. "But that's probably because I'm familiar with you . . .And Noona, you too. You were trying so hard not to laugh, and that made me want to laugh."

Uriel giggled.

"When you walked up to me, I was waiting for someone to speak, but no one did and then I realised, oh, I have to be the one speaking," Kim Dokja cheerfully recounted his experience.

"I've never had to be the conductor before," he chuckled. "I was just standing there, wondering why no one was saying anything and just standing around like that. Ah, and I forgot to introduce myself to you."

"You did," Yoo Joonghyuk nodded with a little smile. "I did too, until Uriel reminded me."

"Someone had to," said Uriel. "You two were just staring at each other and relaxing like you were at home."

"It was quite new," Kim Dokja agreed. "I'm not used to you speaking like that at all, Joonghyuk-ssi."

Worry clouded Yoo Joonghyuk's face and Kim Dokja quickly said, "I was just surprised, but I figured it out the next second, so I wasn't bothered. . .I mean, it was a little weird but that's about it. You sounded pretty harsh, but you didn't look hostile at all, Joonghyuk-ssi."

"I could never be hostile to you, Dokja-ssi," Yoo Joonghyuk said solemnly.

"Ah, it's alright," Kim Dokja waved it away. "Even if you were, I'd understand, really."

"There will be no such situation," Yoo Joonghyuk said firmly and Kim Dokja sighed softly.

"I'll take your word for it, Joonghyuk-ssi," he smiled. He searched around in his head for something to say so that he could change the subject.

"By the way, do you guys have frequent checks like that?" Kim Dokja said innocently and he watched Yoo Joonghyuk's turn slightly pink.

"It was Uriel's idea," Yoo Joonghyuk said when he noticed Kim Dokja's widening, amused grin.

"Don't fucking lie," Uriel snapped. "It was all this toddler, Dokja-yah."

"You suggested that I use an excuse to go see how Dokja-ssi was doing at lunch," Yoo Joonghyuk glared at his secretary who scowled back at him.

"That's because you were sulking in the office and being a wet blanket," Uriel spat. "You were getting no work done and were yelling at me the whole time so I had to do something!"

"I wasn't yelling at you. I was trying to stop you from planting spies in the Production Planning department to see how Dokja-ssi was doing."

"I'd like to remind you two that I'm not a kid going to school for the first time," Kim Dokja piped in. "I might find work a little tough because I've never held such a position, but that doesn't mean I need to be constantly monitored."

"Precisely my thoughts," Yoo Joonghyuk gave a curt nod.

"Bullshit," Uriel huffed. "He was going to install secret cameras everywhere, Dokja-yah. Don't listen to this idiot. Using humans as spies is better than electronically bugging the place."

"...what?"

"Stop your nonsense," Yoo Joonghyuk said sternly.

"Oh, Dokja-yah, you're new to this, aren't you!" Uriel cried. ". . .Well, sometimes people really need intel and sometimes you have to resort to certain methods that might or might not be frowned upon by the law."

The rest of dinner was spent with Uriel and Yoo Joonghyuk explaining how spying was used in the corporate world, the devices that were most frequently used and how to see if there was such a device placed in his office and stuff like that.

It was incredibly interesting.

Kim Dokja thought Han Sooyoung would have loved to be there to listen to it. She would have it all in her next book for sure. She kept saying that writers needed to experience the world to be able to create something good.

The cafeteria had two new water stations within a week and everyone said that Kim Dokja had a near miss with that one; instead of getting fired, he got his suggestion heard by the CEO himself.

Kim Dokja thought the whole thing was hilarious, though he wouldn't be telling anyone that.
