Chapter 81 - Chapter 81: Saturday Night

=== September 14 1996 ===

Draco opens the door to the Room of Requirement and goes straight for the vanishing cabinet, the door hesitates for a second then shuts behind him. A person completely concealed with robes and a mask appears nearby and walks away from the room.

Inside the room Harry removes his invisibility cloak and places Hugin on the floor. 'It's safe,' he sends to Hermione.

Hermione appears, along with Lavender, Hannah, Ron and Neville. "Alright, while Draco works we're going to go through this room."

Everyone nods. "The spell is Naturia Magicia, you cast to with your wand pointing towards an object. If the object glows white it's light magic, gray is neutral and black is dark." Hermione lectures as she pulls out bags. "Anything you find that's black or gray levitate it into one of these bags. If it doesn't levitate, just leave it, don't touch it!"

"What are you going to do with everything we find?" Ron asks.

"The headmaster is going to destroy them all with fiendfyre." Harry replies.

"What do we do with the stuff we find that glows white?" Hannah asks.

"Why would anyone hide something that's light magic?" Ron asks.

"Child of a dark wizard?" Neville suggests.

"If you find something that's light magic, my thought would be to just leave it alone." Harry suggests.

Hermione nods. "If we find it necessary we can bring bags for them next time."

"Sounds reasonable to me." Ron says as he grabs a pair of bags.

"I suggest we meet back here in a couple hours." Neville says as he takes a pair of bags.

"I agree." Hermione says. "Everyone set an alarm for two hours, when it goes off, come back here." Everyone nods in agreement.

"Then let's get started." Harry says.

#####

A few hours later, everyone returns to the entrance with their bag full. "Good work everyone." Hermione says.

"I don't think we even put a dent in the amount of stuff in here." Ron says.

"I know it feels that way." Harry says, "but every item removed from here is for the better."

"We'll keep coming and doing this every chance we get." Neville says. "The thought of some firstie stumbling in here and ending up cursed keeps playing in my head."

"Mine too," Hannah admits. "I want to make sure Hogwarts is safe for future generations."

"I think that's what we all want." Lavender says.

Everyone nods. "Let's get these bags to the headmaster, then have lunch." Harry says.

Later that evening, Hermione stands in front of a mirror as straightens her heir robes for the upteenth time in the last 5 minutes. "Mione, there's no need to be nervous." Harry says.

"Easy for you to say." Hermione says. "You're not the one going to the inaugural meeting of the Slug Club."

"I'll go if you would rather stay." Harry says.

Hermione shakes her head. "No, we drew lots, I won, so I'm going. I just wish I wasn't so nervous."

Harry hugs her from behind, putting us hands on her belly and the lives within. "These three seem to be affecting your emotions more than the twins did."

"I blame our third daughter, trying to one-up our sons." Hermione jokes.

"Sounds about right." Harry says as someone knocks on their door. Harry lets go of Hermione and opens the door to see Shannon standing there.

"I was wondering, since I can't go to the Slug Club if you two might need a babysitter." Shannon says.

"We would love to have you as a babysitter, and the twins would love it too." Harry says.

Shannon nods as she steps into the room. "Thank you."

"You're probably better off here," Hermione says. "I bet you'd find the club boring."

"Maybe." Shannon admits, obliviously downtrodden.

"I'll tell you what." Hermione says. "I'll edit out anything improper from my memory of tonight and if your Mum allows I'll let you see it."

Shannon's mismatched eyes light up. "Really?"

Hermione nods. "Really."

Shannon hugs Hermione. "Thank you." She lets go and heads to go check on the twins.

"Looks like we're both going." Harry says as he grabs his lion pin, puts it on and activates it.

Hermione looks him over in his heir robes and grabs some gel to make his hair stay in place. "Now we're both going."

Hermione and Harry walk into the potion lab and hardly recognize the place. Slughorn had transformed the drull, sterile environment to a warm welcoming room. Gone were the individual work areas, instead small wooden tables dot the room, each one with a few candles and either hors d'oeuvres or drinks.

"You think any of those are non-alcoholic?" Hermione asks.

"Actually, Lady Potter," Slughorn explains. "The glasses are all charmed to consider desire, age, and," he clears his throat, "health conditions. Then provide the most appropriate beverage."

"I would very much like to learn that charm, Professor Slughorn." Hermione says.

"I would be delighted to teach it to you, and please, call me Horace during these meetings."

"Only if you will provide me the same courtesy and call me Hermione."

Slughorn nods. "Of course. Now, if you'll come with me I'll introduce you to the others." They both grab a drink and follow Slughorn as he walks around the room. "I understand you already know Lord and Lady Malfoy."

Hermione nods. "Lady Malfoy is my cousin."

"So that rumor is true." Slughorn muses. "Interesting."

"We also know Lord and Lady Longbottom." Harry says. "Lord Longbottom is my cousin, and a good friend."

"I see you two are already very well connected." Slughorn says.

"I'm sure we'll need it." Hermione says. "We hope to change a lot of things."

"Like what?" Slughorn asks.

"The fact that most magicals know next to nothing about the muggle world, and the so-called muggle studies class is an utter joke." Hermione answers.

"You think you could design a better curriculum?" Slughorn asks.

"Maybe, maybe not." Hermione answers honestly. "I could, however, provide accurate information." She reaches into her robes and pulls out a book. "I wrote this to help magicals adapt."

Slughorn examines the dark blue book and reads the title embossed in gold: A Wizard's Guide to the Muggle World. He carefully lifts the book and opens it seeing that there are hand-drawn illustrations along with muggle photographs. "Hermione, this is genius!" Slughorn says, causing Hermione to blush. "You should publish this!"

"Really?" Hermione asks.

"Yes, there are plenty of people in the magical community that are curious about muggles." Slughorn answers. "A book about the muggle world written by a muggleborn is just what is needed. After reading this there will be calls to completely redo our muggle studies program."

"How would I even go about that?" Hermione asks.

"I just happen to know just the person for that." Slughorn says. "May I create a copy of your book to send to them?"

"Of course!" Hermione exclaims. Slughorn pulls out his wand and copies the book only for the copy to turn to dust.

"Sorry, I forgot about that. I need to copy it, or else it does that." Hermione says as she pulls out her wand and copies the book, and hands him the copy.

Slughorn takes the copy. "Do you think you can teach me the charm you used so only you can make copies?"

Hermione nods. "Of course."

The rest of the event went by in a blur that left Hermione glad she could go back and review her own memories, otherwise there was no chance that she would remember half of the people she met tonight.

"I can't believe 4 different people tried to get us to sign betrothal agreements for one of the twins!" Hermione says in exasperation as they walk back to their room.

"I know, I didn't expect that many people to have siblings or cousins their age." Harry says.

"Wait! You expected betrothal agreements?" Hermione asks.

"You didn't?" Harry retorts.

"Not while we were still in Hogwarts." Hermione admits.

Harry nods. "I expected 1 or 2, I'm sure as the year goes on there will be more."

"You're not actually debating signing one are you?" Hermione asks.

"We should at least consider the option." Harry says. "It worked out for us."

"That's why you kept saying we would have to meet the prospective match and the parents." Hermione says.

Harry nods. "Exactly."

#####

They reach the Gryffindor common room and speaks the password. It's late enough that the common room is empty as they pass through it and go to their room. They are met by almost complete silence, and no sign of Shannon. They quietly open the door to the nursery and see the twins asleep in their cribs. Then they see Shannon asleep on the floor.

Hermione pulls out her wand and carefully levitates the young girl. Harry conjurs a bed, complete with pillows and a blanket. He pulls back the blanket, Hermione lays Shannon on the bed and Harry covers her up. They turn and tiptoe out of the room.

Once back in their room, Harry summons his patronus and sends it to tell McGonagall where her daughter is. Then the two of them change and snuggle into bed.

"Sissy! Sissy!" Iris says.

Shannon wakes up to Iris calling out a little confused as she distinctively remembers dozing off on the floor and here she was in a bed. She shakes off the confusion and gets up, she walks over to Iris' crib. "Rose is still asleep, you know."

Iris shakes her head. "No, Sissy!" She points directly to Shannon.

Shannon blushes slightly. "My name is Shannon, can you say it?"

"Shanna?" Iris says, obliviously trying.

"Close enough," Shannon says. "Are you ready to get up?"

"Pees?" Iris asks.

Shannon lets the side of the crib down and helps her out. "You're going to be ready for a big girl bed soon."

Iris walks over to the conjured bed Shannon had woken up on, climbs up onto it and sits. "Big girl bed!"

"Yes, that's a big girl bed." Harry says, drawing their attention.

"Daddy!" Iris yells excitedly, holding her arms out as she does.

Harry goes over and picks Iris up off the bed hugging her tight. "Do you need changed?"

"Yep." Iris answers.

"You want me to change her?" Shannon asks.

"I got her, you check on Rose." Harry says.

Shannon looks over to see Rose quietly sitting in her crib. "Guess she is awake."

#####

A short time later the twins come running into the room and hug Hermione. "Morning!" They both say.

Hermione hugs them both back. "Morning."

Shannon walks in from the nursery. "Sorry I fell asleep."

"It's no big deal," Hermione says. "I'm sure you would have woken if necessary."

"Not that it's necessary." Harry says, "they pretty much sleep through the night."

Shannon nods. "I should probably go check in with Mum."

Hermione hands her a vial of memories. "Give this to her."

"Is this last night?" Shannon asks.

Hermione nods. "As promised, now she has to approve it."

Shannon takes the vial. "Thank you." She hugs Hermione then runs off.
