A sharp pain stabbed through his heart, one he didn't know how to describe. If he had known this would happen, he never would've let her go home alone.
His face darkened slightly at the thought, a cold light flashing in his eyes.
When they got to the hospital, Jeffrey carried Rachel out of the car and rushed straight into the emergency room.
Rachel stayed quiet, completely zoned out, until the doctor reached for the album in her hands.
Suddenly, she snapped back and gripped it tighter. "No!"
"I'm not taking it away. I just want to check your injuries," Jeffrey said softly. "Please, let the doctor look at your hands, okay?"
Hearing him speak, Rachel finally turned her eyes to him. "Ah... Jeffrey," she mumbled.
"It's me," he answered gently. "Tell me, what happened?"
Her lips trembled, and the tears she had been holding back started falling again. "It got burned... the album with my mom in it... it burned."
