With her purchases from the market in hand, Selina was about to get a grip on her luggage when Zane tightened his hold on the handle first.
"It's heavy, and you can't carry both things at the same time. Don't stress your arm until it recovers," Zane said, lowering his gaze to her bandaged arm. "Does it still hurt?"
"It doesn't hurt much. I had it disinfected and treated at a clinic on my way here," Selina replied.
"Alright. If it hurts, we can revisit the clinic," he suggested.
Selina averted her anxious gaze, glancing around the mansion before asking, "No one will attack me here, will they?"
"I know you don't trust me, Selina, and that you're choosing to stay behind because of our deal. But I promise I won't let any harm come to you," Zane said, his voice calm and filled with unwavering devotion.
Selina didn't respond and couldn't maintain eye contact as she moved from her position and headed toward the staircase.
