Chapter 229 - Chapter 229: Ambush and Purpose

Natsu punched a dark guild grunt flying and shouted, "This is so annoying! No one said there'd be this many of them!"

Gray launched a Lancer spell at another thug from the opposite direction, glanced at Natsu, and said, "Quit complaining. If you've got that much energy, use it to clean up these small fries."

Since entering the forest, the group had been constantly ambushed by low-level dark guild members who clearly didn't know their limits.

Though it didn't take much effort to deal with them, the repeated interruptions were grating.

Erza equipped her Heaven's Wheel Armor and sent a barrage of swords sweeping through the area, clearing it with overwhelming force.

Charles gave her a thumbs-up. "Alright, let's keep moving! But stay sharp—this won't be the last ambush."

Everyone responded in unison and prepared to advance when a loud explosion echoed in the distance.

Charles furrowed his brow. "Looks like Lamia Scale's group ran into trouble."

That kind of noise couldn't have come from just another grunt. It had to be one of the Oración Seis's core members.

The allied forces had split into three teams: Fairy Tail in the center, Lamia Scale to the left, and Blue Pegasus on the right.

Charles was now weighing whether or not to support Lamia Scale.

In theory, with Jura present and Leo and Sherry being capable mages, they should be fine.

But the Oración Seis were no slouches. If more than three of them attacked at once, things could turn dire.

Just as Charles was deep in thought, a blast of violet magic came crashing down.

Everyone scattered as the attack struck the ground, corroding it with deep pits. It was clearly a poisonous-type spell.

Charles looked up and saw a massive, winged serpent in the air. Standing on its back was none other than Cobra, the Poison Dragon Slayer.

The moment Natsu spotted him, he exploded with fury. "You again, bastard! You're not getting away this time! Happy!"

"Aye, sir!" Happy, abandoning his flirting with Charle, answered the call and used Wing Magic to fly Natsu into the sky.

Charles didn't stop him. Taking down the Oración Seis was everyone's mission, and Natsu could handle himself just fine.

What Charles was really focused on was why the Oración Seis were launching these attacks.

Assuming they knew the allied guilds were heading for Nirvana, it didn't make sense to randomly crash into them like this.

Even the most arrogant villain wouldn't think this kind of ambush could stop the alliance after their previous clash.

While everyone was watching Natsu's aerial battle, a shadow crept up behind Gray.

He instinctively turned—only to see someone who looked exactly like him.

Before he could react, the double launched an Ice Make spell, forming an ice spear that pierced forward.

Gray quickly created an ice shield. Though he blocked the spear, the force knocked him back.

Amidst a white fog, the attacker transformed into two blue puppet-like figures. It was the Celestial Spirit Gemini, contracted to Angel.

While Cobra drew their attention, Angel had slipped in alongside him.

After knocking Gray away, Gemini didn't press the attack but instead latched onto Wendy.

Unfamiliar with such situations, Wendy panicked and crouched down, hugging her head.

Charles frowned and waved his hand, releasing a wave of flames that forced Gemini to retreat. The twin spirits quickly flew off and vanished from sight.

Angel herself didn't appear either, as if she had no intention of continuing the fight.

Watching Charle scold Wendy, Charles suddenly realized the Oración Seis's true goal.

Nirvana was still sealed, and even though the Oración Seis knew its general location, Brain had no idea how to unseal it.

Initially, Brain had planned to find and unseal Nirvana the hard way. But after seeing Wendy, a new plan formed.

Brain might not know the seal's details, but someone else did—Jellal.

As Siegrain, Jellal had infiltrated the Magic Council and obtained countless secret records. Brain was certain Jellal knew Nirvana's location and how to unseal it.

At the end of the Tower of Heaven incident, Jellal had merged with the massive Lacrima and detonated it, disappearing afterward.

Considering the chaotic and immense magical force of Etherion, Charles had only survived with FAR's help and world magic. Jellal had been seriously wounded.

And the only one who could heal him was the Sky Dragon Slayer—Wendy, known as the Sky Maiden.

But Wendy was traveling with Fairy Tail. Trying to snatch her from Charles? Brain immediately gave up on that idea.

Instead, he had Angel use Gemini to copy Wendy.

While Wendy's magic was powerful, her magical reserves were still immature, making her easier to replicate.

Now it all made sense to Charles.

Just then, Hibiki's voice echoed in his mind.

"This is… Blue Pegasus… we've been attacked by the Oración Seis… requesting backup…"

The transmission was broken and weak—Hibiki sounded injured. Everyone else heard it too.

Charles spoke up, "That's most of the Oración Seis accounted for. Let's take them out here and now!

Erza, please support Blue Pegasus. Gray, check if Lamia Scale needs help.

I'll track down Brain. Lucy, Wendy—you two stay here and back up Natsu."

No one hesitated. They split up immediately.

Charles unfurled flaming wings and soared into the sky, heading toward the distant forest.

He extended his magical perception, hoping to lock onto Brain's presence.

Before he could pinpoint it, a powerful explosion drew his attention.

Sweeping his senses across the area, he felt two distinct magical signatures—Brain and Jellal.

"Found you." Without another word, Charles flew toward them.

Brain's face twisted in rage. After going through all the trouble to revive Jellal, the moment he regained consciousness, Jellal punched him straight into the ground.

The petty and paranoid Brain immediately assumed that even in his unconscious state, Jellal had overheard his plan for Nirvana and now wanted it for himself.

Brain shouted, "Racer, go after Jellal! Find Nirvana! And if you can, kill that bastard!"

Racer nodded and turned to give chase, but just then, a fiery figure dropped from the sky.

Before he could react, Charles slammed his head into the ground.

"Yo. What's the rush?" Charles let go of the now-unconscious Racer, whose eyes had rolled back, and looked up at Brain.

Brain's pupils shrank in disbelief. "You again?!"
