Chapter 131-132 – Date Fall - 5
After resting on the bench for a while, Heeyeon and Daehyuk decided to ride more attractions.
This time, they tried a real gyro drop.
"Oh ah ah ah ah ah!"
Before getting on, Heeyeon was nervous. Her heart raced as she glanced at Daehyuk. But once the ride started, the thrill made her forget her worries for a moment.
"You look really happy."
"It was… thrilling."
"Then how about something less intense but still fun?"
He suggested the next ride quickly to keep her from worrying.
"Okay, next up: bumper cars!"
Kwaaaaang!
"Aaaaah!"
"Wow, Heeyeon, you're terrible at driving!"
"I'm doing my best!"
Kwaaaaang!
"Ouch!"
"Director, you're not very good either."
"You counterattack right away. That's impressive, Heeyeon."
They laughed as they bumped bumper cars, helping Heeyeon relax and enjoy herself.
"Oh, there's a magic show. Let's check it out."
Churrrr!
"How do they get so many cards out of their mouth…!"
Heeyeon had rarely seen entertainment like this, even on TV. She was amazed and delighted by the live magic show.
Afterwards, she continued enjoying various rides and wandering around the park with him.
"This amusement park… it's really fun."
"Right?"
She couldn't deny how much fun she was having thanks to him.
At one point, she even wore a cute bunny ear headband she bought from a concession stand.
"Then try that ride next."
"What is it?"
Curious, she looked toward the ride Cha Daehyuk suggested.
It was the carousel—the very first ride he had recommended.
"But I said I wouldn't ride that!"
"Hey, Heeyeon. How about one last ride as a souvenir? We've been on most of the rides already. Now, only the carousel and the Ferris wheel are left. It wouldn't be a bad idea to finish what we came for."
"Finish what we came for…"
Heeyeon hesitated at his suggestion.
'Alright, I'll try everything while I'm here.'
She easily accepted his bait.
"Okay. That sounds like a good idea."
They walked toward the carousel.
"Alright, get on, Heeyeon."
"We can't ride together, right?"
"Can't we?"
"Oh no!"
"Then I'll ride the horse behind you."
They mounted separate horses, and soon the carousel began to turn with music playing.
The horses they rode moved up and down.
"Ah…"
She slowly spun around, taking in the scenery.
When she was young, she only saw this kind of scene on TV. Now, she felt she had finally experienced something she had once envied but thought she would never have.
She gazed quietly outside as the carousel rotated.
Noticing her thoughtful mood, he stayed silent beside her.
After the ride ended, he gently asked, "The carousel was worth it, right?"
"I had fun."
"Good. Then let's take the last ride—the Ferris wheel!"
He took her hand and led her to the Ferris wheel. She didn't pull away and walked quietly beside him.
"Hope you're having a good time."
An employee greeted them as they boarded the Ferris wheel.
"Wow…"
Heeyeon admired the view as the ground slowly shrank below them.
"Heeyeon, how was your day?"
"Huh?"
"Did you enjoy the amusement park date?"
"The amusement park was fun."
"That's good to hear. Next time, I'll find a place you might like."
"What's next?"
"Yes. Did you really think it would end after just one date? How about the beach? Summer is almost here."
"Wow, the beach! It takes hours to get there… and it's hard to come back the same day."
"Why do you think it has to be the same day? You can stay overnight."
"To stay overnight… Mr. Jisan will be home. Ah."
After saying Jisan's name, Heeyeon quickly checked her phone for the time.
Then she hurriedly said to Daehyuk, "Wait, Director! Please take me off the Ferris wheel right now. Oh no, what should I do? I have to prepare dinner."
She was having so much fun at the amusement park that she lost track of time.
If she didn't leave soon, she wouldn't be able to prepare dinner before Kim Jisan came home from work.
"I'll take you back, Heeyeon. But today, the place you're going back to… is my house."
"Your house? What do you mean?"
"What do you think? Let's spend a hot night at my place tonight."
"No, don't joke! Jisan will find it strange if I'm not home suddenly! If he gets suspicious, you'll be in trouble too!"
"Why are you so worried, Heeyeon? Can't you just tell Jisan you have plans with a friend and will stay overnight?"
"No, Mr. Jisan is very thorough. I'm sure he'd ask whose house I'm staying at or something like that."
"I don't think so. Even if he asks, can't you just say it's Seorina's?"
"You want me to say Seorina? Even though I'm dating her? She's just a friend on the surface. It's not easy to mention her."
"But if it were Mr. Jisan, I'd tell him not to stay but to come right over and prepare a meal."
Heeyeon spoke anxiously.
He softened his voice to comfort her. "Heeyeon, you said you had fun today, right?"
"Yes, I did."
"Then do me a favor. Call Jisan and ask if it's okay to stay overnight at a friend's place, just to test."
"What?"
"If Jisan says no, I'll take you straight to the Ferris wheel right away. How's that?"
"But…"
"I'm only asking. Jisan won't think it's strange."
He reached out and gently squeezed her hand.
"Please, Heeyeon."
"…Okay. But please… let go of my hand."
"Thank you."
'It probably won't work anyway.'
Heeyeon turned on her phone and called Jisan.
[What's going on?]
"Ah, Mr. Jisan. Yes, today… I'm meeting a friend for the first time in a while. I'd like to stay at my friend's house for a day. Is that okay?"
Who is your friend? Did you prepare dinner in advance? No way.
Heeyeon imagined what Jisan might say.
But then,
[Alright. I guess I'll have to eat dinner on my own tonight.]
Jisan accepted her request easily.
"Huh? Really, Mr. Jisan? What about dinner?"
[I already said. I'll eat on my own. I plan to stop by the store on my way home from work.]
"Oh, okay…"
[Will you be back by lunchtime tomorrow?]
"Yes? Yes, I will."
[Then I guess I should buy something for breakfast tomorrow. Okay, I'm still working, so I'll hang up now.]
Suddenly, Jisan ended the call as soon as he finished speaking.
Heeyeon's hand dropped as she ended the call.
"How was it?"
"He said yes."
"That's good. Didn't Jisan ask anything else?"
"Not at all. When I said I was staying at a friend's house, he just said he would have to eat dinner on his own. Then he asked if I'd be back for lunch and said he'd buy breakfast."
"You mean he didn't ask who the friend was or anything like that?"
"Yes…"
Heeyeon answered Daehyuk's question blankly, as if lost in thought.
Her mind was in shock. She knew that for Jisan, her role was simply to give birth and raise their child.
Yet, they were married and lived together.
When Jisan suggested the Ascel massage shop out of consideration for her, she thought maybe he had some affection. But his reaction now showed he didn't mind at all if she stayed overnight at a friend's place.
He didn't ask who the friend was nor what she would eat without him there. He simply said he'd eat outside.
In some ways, it might seem like Jisan was respecting his wife's privacy and friendships. But for Heeyeon, who saw Jisan every day, it felt very different.
She thought, 'I am nothing more than someone who gives birth to and raises Jisan's child.'
Their relationship had no affection. It was a contractual marriage made only to produce an heir.
As she realized this again, all her unconscious hopes for Jisan were shattered.
It felt like a hole was opening in her chest. A cold wind seemed to blow across her heart.
Heeyeon wanted someone to fill that empty space.
If Seorina were here, she would have hugged her while cursing Kim Jisan.
Her dependence and affection for Seorina would have grown even stronger. But right now, the person closest to her was not Seorina.
"Heyeon, are you okay?"
"Ah…"
"Your face looks pale."
Not Seorina, with whom she had an affair and even cheated. Not the man who had threatened and hurt her.
Yet later he treated her gently, called her cute, and finally told her directly that he liked her.
For Heeyeon, the man who showed her affection repeatedly through his words and actions was only Daehyuk.
