Chapter 5 - Pilot ~ Part 5

Bellamy turned away from his sister Octavia seeing the smile and he placed his hand around the lever by the door, Clarke looking on in worry, she still didn't think it was a good idea to just open the doors, not when the ground wasn't meant to be habitable for another 100 years.

Bellamy pulled the lever without hesitation, smoke appeared by the door as the seals released and the first thing that filled the room was light, a blinding white light as the door loudly creaked open, dropping down to the floor. Clarke's eyes narrowed slightly as the bright light hurt her eyes though she quickly adjusted. Everyone's mouths dropped open, their eyes scanning what they could see in front of them as they stood firmly rooted to the spot.

The sun was bright, shining down on earth and the 100 kids in the Drop Ship like a guiding light, it filtered through the trees making them glow a bright green, they looked healthy, like they'd been bathing in the sunlight for years. Clarke wasn't sure what the hell the apocalypse was supposed to look like, or an radiation soaked planted, but it sure as hell wasn't this. Besides the sight, the sun was giving off a warmth, a comforting embracing warmth that the kids had never felt before, they'd heard of stories of earth, read books about it, heard about it from their parents, but now, now...they were living the story.

Octavia slowly walked forwards, Bellamy watching her carefully as she did. The younger sisters eyes slowly taking everyone in around her. She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply, letting her head fall back slightly and exhaled loudly, the air was sweet, not old and rustic like the ark was, it smelled fresh. She held back an excited smile as she walked down the metal ramp that was once the door, for a moment her feet pounding against the metal and the faint whistle of wind through the trees were the only sound that could be heard as everyone held their breath.

Bellamy smiled faintly as he watched his little sister getting closer to the edge of the door, his eyes glinting with happiness for her, while Clarke beside him was in a constant state of disbelief and awe. Bellamy watched as Octavia took a small jump off the edge of the door, her feet planting firmly on the ground, he held his hand out slightly to the side, keeping everyone back for a moment as he wanted Octavia to enjoy this moment.

Octavia shifted on one foot to the other slightly, swaying from side to side as she let out a small satisfied sigh, the smile growing on her face as she looked around. She looked up the the sky, a loud sigh of relief escaping her as she smiled widely, her hands shooting up in the air. "We're back, bitches!" She yelled excitedly, dragging out the last word happily.

Bellamy couldn't help but break out into a grin and laughed quietly at the sight of that, it was so like Octavia. He chuckled, standing back and watching his sister for a moment as the kids in the Drop Ship all cheered and began to rush out. Bellamy pushed forward past a few kids and smiled as he reached Octavia, his hand wrapping around her back for a moment as he smiled down at her in admiration. Octavia looked up at him, the huge grin still on her face as she playfully hit his chest signaling him to go on as the smile stayed ever present on her face as she watched the kids running out in every direction around her whooping and cheering.

Clarke soon followed suit, the last one off the Drop Ship as she had to grab a few things, like Octavia had done moments earlier she jumped off the edge of the door, her feet, for the first time in her life, touching solid ground, the Earth. She smiled to herself as she watched everything, though her smile was more restrained than Octavia's, her eyes farting around in awe, it was more than she ever imagined earth would be. She stood for a moment with a rolled up map in her hand, just taking the moment to actually try and enjoy herself.

It didn't last long.

Her brows furrowed slightly, a glint of confusion filling her eyes as she looked out ahead. She took a few steps forward, her eyes fixed on something in the distance, the smile now gone. She looked behind her for a moment seeing the kids hugging and celebrating with each other, no one caring that a few branches were on fire around them and their landing had broken and uprooted a few trees. She took a small breath in before walking forwards again, up a small banking and paused for a moment at the top of the slope before brushing her blonde hair slightly behind her ear.

Her hands fell down by her side for a moment, almost in defeat before she looked down and unrolled the parchment in her hand, the map in which is what she presumed the Earth should still resemble. She looked down at it, Mt Weather marked clearly on the map. All she could tell was that Mt Weather was located near a Ridge and mountains and quite possibly a river, none of which, she could see. She looked up, her eyes fixed up at the peak of a mountain in the distance before a voice from beside her drew her attention away.

"Why so serious, princess?" Finn asked, his eyes looking at where Clarke had been watching a moment ago, the hint of that faint smug smile back on his face again. Clarke wasn't impressed, her eyes watching him for a moment before she turned away to look back out at the mountains. "It's not like we died in a fiery explosion." He said, his head slowly turning to Clarke, lips pressed together trying not to be too amused at his own comment, though he wanted to see Clarke's reaction too.

Clarke's neck tensed a little as she took a silent breath in, her head ever so slightly cocking to the side and her lips briefly pressing together at his comment. "Try telling that to the two guys who tried to follow you out of their seats." She said seriously, her voice a little deeper now and with a slight rasp. She turned her attention back to the map in her hands, not caring for Finn's bragging right now. Finn looked at her in awe, he looked away from her for a moment knowing she was right but he wasn't going to think too much about that. He blinked some and raised his eyebrows as he looked back out at the mountains. His eyes squinted slightly and he leaned sideways towards Clarke a bit. "You don't like being called princess, do you princess?" He asked, at the last part of his statement he turned to look at Clarke with a slightly amused look.

Clarke met the look, being called a princess didn't settle well with her, nor the slight smug look on his face. "Do you see that peak over there?" She asked briefly motioning her head over to the mountains they'd both been looking at. Her voice almost amused, she was serious but she couldn't wait to tell him this and see his face. Finn looked over at the mountain, his face still calm and unbothered by everything. "Yeah." He stated bluntly, not too sure what Clarke was getting at, it wasn't exactly something one could miss. "Mount Weather." She replied with another brief head nod to the mountain. "There's a radiation soaked forest between us and our next meal." Sh said, her brows knitting together in concern as she was already trying to figure out plans.

"They dropped us on the wrong damn mountain." She nearly growled.
