Richard's POV
Still feeling shocked, Richard brought out his phone only to see that it was, of course, a mysterious number. He picked it up instantly, and what he heard made him crumble.
"Your parents just had a huge fight in the house, and they are all dead," he heard on the phone. His phone immediately slipped down from his hands. Not because he was too shocked, but because he had had no contact with his parents ever since, and he never expected any day they would call him to inform him of such devastating news.
Just as he was able to bring himself back to reality out of the shock that he had just placed himself in, he bent to pick up his phone, only to feel someone walking behind him. He turned around to see that it was Anna, with Joe standing just far behind her, looking indifferent. He didn't even seem bothered by what he had just done by betraying his friend, and that made Richard even angrier, especially with the fact that he had just been informed that his parents were dead.
He looked at Anna, ready to walk away, but she rushed and pulled him back.
"You can't just go like that. Where exactly do you think you are heading to? You still have to face me. We still need to talk. You can't just storm away like that," Anna yelled at Richard, and he felt amused at the fact that she was still boldly claiming power despite what she had just done.
If he were in a situation like that, all his life would have been shattered instantly. He flung his hand away from her and laughed.
"Really? Do we have something to discuss? Do you think we have something to discuss, or what were you expecting? Should I crumble down and cry because I caught you cheating after spending all my life, all my effort, all my years trying to satisfy you and your family? Trying to make you guys find me worthy of being your husband? I just finished having a heated argument with your dad just because he did not see me worthy of you, only for me to come in and find you cheating on me with my friend Joe. Of all the people, you know how close Joe and I were. Such a dumbass he is. Well, I don't care. Joe is rich. He's better than me. He has a place in society that I do not. Of course, you find him more worthy than I am. You tempted him, or he tempted you. I really don't care how you want to go with your life. I have other important things that I have to take care of at the moment," Richard attacked, trying his best to hold in his emotions.
The fact that she cheated on him and the fact that his parents had just died all in the same few seconds made him feel shattered. But yet he held it in as he hissed and stormed out.
But Anna still followed after him.
"What do you think you are? What exactly are you taking yourself for? Just because you said you loved me, I loved you too. You just were not worthy of me. You were not what I wanted. You are a miserable man. You depended on my family to be rich. You thought maybe satisfying them would make them accept you. Satisfying them would really make them accept you, right? Do you even know who you really are?" Anna said, her emotions spilling over.
"Yes, I loved you too. I loved you so badly that I tried to make my family love you too. But you were just not getting any better. You were not getting any richer. You were just stuck in one position for as long as you could go. You are miserable without my family. I want to watch you live here and become better than you are. You would crumble and become poorer," Anna pointed out, pouring out all her emotions.
But Richard did not care at this moment. He picked up his phone and his briefcase, pocketing everything before storming away. Anna did not let go; she chased after him.
And of course, Joe was unable to say anything, just standing far behind and watching the scenario unfold.
She pulled him again by his suit, and he turned around so angrily that he almost hit her in the face, but he held it back. He would never do something like that to her. He did not hate her to that extent.
"I would not do anything to you, and I would not fall for your trap. It's over. Tell your family it's over. I've left the world for them. I never wanted it in the first place. I was only trying to make them accept me because I wanted a happy life with you. But now I see that it is all useless. I have other things to attend to. Please," he pleaded with her, as Anna became even angrier, letting go of him.
"Fine. You want to end everything? Your years of efforts, all our love together, all the struggles we had to struggle? You are ending it all now? Fine. Do it. I don't care about anything anymore. I don't care how it ends up anymore. I don't care how we end up. Just leave me. We have ended everything. I end everything now. I am leaving you for good. I don't want to see you anywhere around me. You are no longer my husband, and you will soon get your divorce papers from me. It's over for good. Make sure to sign the divorce papers; that's all I can tell you," Anna said, making sure to have the last word as she walked away.
Richard, feeling shattered and even more broken by the fact that she actually wanted to end everything at that moment, despite being the one who cheated, still hurt him deeply. But he had to go check on his parents.
He entered his car and sped off down the road, his hands shaking on the wheel, feeling like the day was moving even slower until he arrived in front of the building.
He rushed in to see that everywhere was filled with police vans and ambulances, with even the maids affected. He hurried into his house to see his mom and dad lying lifeless on the ground. They had been brutally murdered. There were knives piercing every part of their bodies, and it looked like his mother had struggled.
The investigation had already begun, and Richard was consumed by grief and anger as he knelt on the ground and wept.
"Dad, no! You can't leave me now! Who am I going to face? What am I going to do? I can't cope. I have nothing in this world. I have nobody and I have nothing in this world. How would I survive? Anna has left me!" he cried in grief.
Not even knowing what else to do, he continued to mourn when suddenly a stranger appeared at the doorstep. He turned around, looking in confusion.
"Who are you?"
"Mr. Richard, we are from the Rex Incorporation, and we have something important to discuss with you."
