Author's POV
Even though Dorian had seen the Calway's family more than once come to the corporation when Richard's father was still alive, he still decided not to suspect them at all because they were not close to being enemies and were just partners with the company.
Dorian tapped Richard on the shoulder gently and smiled. "Do not worry. They can never ever be your enemies. They are not as bad as you think they are. They just don't want any nonsense around their family. And of course, they saw you as a very poor man, and they don't want a poor man for their daughter. So just be assured that they don't have anything to do with your father's death. But if they do, I would personally make sure that they are all eliminated."
Dorian assured Richard as he nodded. Soon after everything, the funeral came to a close. After everything, Richard felt even more determined seeing everyone crying and laughing, even the ones who stabbed him in the back, according to what Mary and Dorian said, still pretending to be sympathetic, while some of them were so happy that he had no son. All those things made him even more resolute, and due to how hectic everything was, the reading was postponed for a few days, giving Richard more chance to do what he wanted.
It was now a few weeks after the funeral, and he and Mary were having lunch in one of the very prestigious restaurants. A kind of restaurant he would have never seen himself walking into back then, which was also owned by his father. He did not just come here to have an ordinary lunch but instead to investigate the company and to see the people wrecking his father's company. That was one of his main purposes for being there.
As he and Mary discussed, and Mary went through some of the documents he was meant to sign, he noticed someone familiar walk into the room, and she was not alone; she had Richard's best friend by her side. At first, she did not recognize Richard at all, but immediately she passed him, she felt that she had definitely seen him. Even the aura that came from him was more than enough. She would never and could never forget Richard Saint, even if she tried to.
She stopped instantly as John Joe also noticed and stopped. "Did you see something?" he questioned as she laughed. "I just saw someone very funny," she muttered and stepped back a few steps only to see Richard staring at her.
He did not act surprised, nor did he act emotional. He was not the kind of man she had always labeled him to be the kind of person who would do anything for her, who said he did not mind spending the rest of his years working like a slave for her family just to prove how much he could take good care of her.
Seeing him with an even more elegant woman, who was Mary, she already misconstrued while they were there. She walked towards him and clapped her hands as she got closer, placing both her hands on the desk as she looked at him angrily. "Wow, I can't believe this. You left me after not being successful in getting what you wanted from me. No wonder you never appeared when we signed for divorce. Now you have moved on to another woman. You are about to suck out all the wealth from this rich woman now, right? You don't know when to stop, Richard," she said as Richard felt so angry.
But from beneath the table, Mary had already signaled for him not to make a scene as he stayed calm. "You shouldn't be discussing things like that with me anymore. You should just say hi; it was nice to meet you, ex-husband of mine," he exaggerated as Joe also joined in.
"You shouldn't even call yourself her ex-husband because you are not worth half of what she's worth. Don't let people assume that she gave you a chance in the past. You are nothing. You are not in her past, and you are not important in her future either," Joe said.
Richard, unable to hold in his anger, just laughed because if he was to say any word out of his mouth towards Joe, then Joe would regret it. And not just that, Joe would nearly go crazy if he knew that he was just making fake assumptions of Richard.
"It's fine; you don't have to yell at him or say anything. He is having the best time of his life with this weird woman. He thinks she would love him too. She would also ditch you when she finds someone better than you. I believe you have learned a little lesson from me, but don't worry, you will learn more from her. She looks very elegant, and fits you perfectly," Anna said as she stepped away, unable to hold in her emotions.
Even though she had cheated on Richard with Joe, she still could not hide the fact that she was madly in love with him, and the feelings had not yet faded away even after months. But Joe was not ready to leave at all as he stepped in. "You really want to stay quiet and act like you are the one who doesn't give a damn? Well, you are still as low as you always are. I hope you are not licking her feet this time around so she won't leave you the way you always do with every woman. I don't even know why you cannot stand on your own and make your own money. Instead, you leap and try to survive through rich women. And you, lady, should better know when to stop. He would use you after getting your wealth. He would dump you," Joe said.
Anna dragged him away. "Do not waste your saliva trying to explain to her. She looks educated already. I am sure this little hint is more than enough for her," they concluded before walking away, leaving Richard and Mary.
As Mary could not help but chuckle, she was just so amused at how bold they were, while Richard was angry. "I don't know why you did not let me attack them. I would have made his life worthless. He won't even be able to move his face for a whole year," Richard said angrily.
