Chapter 116

Cadia had several Webway Gates, but they were never easy to open.

Cawl had met the Harlequin Veilwalker of the Aeldari long ago, so he already knew their forces would arrive to cover his movements.

But when he stepped outside, even he was shaken by the sight before him.

"Emperor… what has become of Cadia?"

He knew the battle was fierce, but this… this was no longer a battle. It was slaughter.

Cadians and daemons were butchered every second. The carnage was beyond anything even Cawl had imagined. Still, he marched out with his Mechanicus guards, protected by escorts assigned by Lord Creed.

The hardest part of the mission was about to begin.

Yet, with Godzilla here, the hardest part suddenly became the easiest.

The target of the mission—the Ark Mechanicus, the key to Cawl's work—finally moved.

'Cawl's grandson finally moved. Honestly, if he hadn't, I'd be ready to throw myself to Chaos.'

[You already have a projection in the Warp. That counts as Chaos Undivided.]

'Tsk.'

Was Godzilla a Chaos God? In truth… yes.

But then, so was the Emperor.

Anything with a reflection in the Warp was, in a sense, a Warp entity. Getting rid of that wasn't so simple.

'Who cares? Let's see who dares stop me from sending Cawl to Macragge!!!'

The war was about to pause for just a moment—only for the storm to continue elsewhere.

Because Macragge itself was under Chaos assault, and would be again. It might even fall, if only for a time.

[So you're siding with humans now?]

'No. Guilliman will return to Terra in the end. Let's just say I want to go home too.'

[You're Godzilla. And you still want to "return to Terra"?]

'What's wrong with going home for a look? Maybe I'll help with Terra's urban planning while I'm at it.'

A joke. A "cabinet resignation ray," as he thought of it. If the Emperor knew Godzilla had wiped out the High Lords, would He laugh, or rage?

Godzilla scanned the battlefield. None of the daemons or traitors around him were worth his attention. He couldn't be bothered to fire a radiation heat ray just to clear the lines.

Besides, it was pointless.

Even if he swept them aside, the next second the gaps would be filled with daemons. Better to just strike casually.

'You sound like Hai Si, that's too much.'

[Please don't flatter Hai Si.]

'Hai Si evolves, like the Tyranids.'

[What you really want is to see Rhodes Island when you get to Terra.]

'So what? I want to see the landship, that's all.'

[Cadia has landships too.]

The system didn't understand. Then, suddenly, across the horizon, huge shadows appeared. But these weren't Titans.

Even an Emperor-class Titan seemed small compared to them.

They were land battleships.

'…Fuck. There really are land battleships?!'

Godzilla knew of them—vast armored fortresses that crawled on treads. The Iron Warriors were infamous for them. And there it was, their icon emblazoned on the plating.

The Iron Warriors had joined the fight.

'Damn… this land battleship's too big.'

The massive treads crushed buildings like toys. Each was far larger than Rhodes Island, towering over the battlefield.

'This is big… I like big!!!'

One after another, the colossal machines advanced toward Cadia's lines. If they reached the defenders, the Imperial position would collapse instantly. They were virtually unstoppable.

Except, perhaps, by Godzilla.

'Alright… I'll try stopping one.'

The Cadians saw it too, and their faces went pale.

Even Lord Creed, surveying from his balcony, froze.

"Damn it… damn traitors!!!" He gripped the railing tight.

"They sent landships?! Why not drag their entire fortress here while they're at it?!"

It was as absurd as deploying an entire Guard regiment in one place. But considering Abaddon's desperation, it made sense.

Still—if the Iron Warriors lost these landships here, they would be crippled. These were their foundation, as much as the Phalanx was to the Imperial Fists. This was not a battle they could afford to lose.

But then—

Godzilla moved. His colossal form passed over the heads of the defenders, striding straight toward the landships.

The Cadians stared in disbelief.

"Is that thing insane?"

"He's… he's going to stop the landship?"

"Impossible. It's impossible."

It sounded like a fool's boast—like trying to beat Slaymarbo at stealth.

Impossible.

But in Godzilla's eyes, nothing was impossible.

Abaddon saw it too, and laughed aloud.

"Hahaha! Has he gone mad? To stop the Iron Warriors' landships?! Nothing save a hive city can resist them. He cannot win!"

The Iron Warriors Chaos Marines manning the fortress-ships sneered as well.

"Hmph." Their commander stood at the deck's edge, staring down coldly at Godzilla.

"Ridiculous. Who does he think he is? If he can stop a landship, I'll swear myself back to the Corpse-Emperor's leash!"

For Iron Warriors, grim and humorless, this was practically a joke.

"Heh."

A few even laughed outright. Godzilla trying to stop a land battleship? Absurd.

There was only one way to do so: board it. But long before reaching the hull, the target would be shredded by the fortress' overlapping batteries. It was suicide to even try.

But funny or not—the answer would come soon enough.

'Here I come, brother.'

Godzilla clapped his claws together, lowering into a sumo stance.

Ahead, the land battleship thundered forward, engines roaring, its massive ram bearing down.

'Hhhhhh.'

Godzilla steadied his breath, then surged forward, hands outstretched. He collided with the ram in a thunderous impact.

For a moment, the battlefield shook.

And then—Godzilla began to be pushed back.

The fortress was a city on treads, its mass and power overwhelming even him.

Even Godzilla found it difficult.
