As expected, Lady Sylvia declined Ember's call card under the pretext that her grandmother's illness had relapsed and she would be occupied taking care of the old woman.
Still Ember had persisted, travelling all the way to the Heartstone mansion under the pouring rain only to be respectfully turned away by the butler who informed Ember that Lady Sylvia wasn't around as she was visiting an apothecary in the outskirts of the city.
Ember couldn't tell whether it was just too much of a coincidence, or whether the woman in question was pulling all the stops in making sure to avoid Ember.
Either way, it only fueled Ember's desire to see the woman. Even though she had already confirmed that something was fishy about Dylan Shantaville, she had a strong feeling there was something more to it.
Something only Lady Sylvia, who was his first love, might be able to confirm for her.
